Rented bikes from here to follow the wine trail, and have to say the service and coordination was excellent. The bikes also worked like a charm. They mapped out several spots for us to stop at, and worked with us to figure out exactly when and where they could deliver our prepared lunch. You don't have to book the wineries - they do it for you and give you a schedule. Even at the end, when had a few wines to drink and werent sure we would make it back - they made sure to tell us when and where to meet them so they could pick us up! The staff is very friendly, they have one trail super long 35 mile paved trail (Leelanau trail) starting right from the shop. But you could borrow a bike rack and take it anywhere you want. You could drop it off after hours. They charge you for the day rental but will refund the balance if you return it sooner than 3 hours.. they also do bike tours. My husband surprised me with an e-bike winery tour for our 11 year anniversary. It was amazing!!!! Jordan from the bike shop was awesome! He was positive and let us know that he would pick up our purchased wines throughout the trip, so we didn't have to carry them. If we were tired and done, he would pick us up. If we had trouble with our bikes, he was there! (We did not.) Our lunch was at the winery as preplanned! It was amazing! I cannot say enough good things about our tour. This place is fantastic! Every employee is very knowledgeable and generous with their advice. They are right off the 17 mile paved winery trail. We had the best time biking to five wineries and making a day of it. My husband and son brought their own bikes and the guys here tuned them for free and suggested some great suitable accessories. These people are fantastic! I'm left wondering if each of the folks working for SBB's may have taken some type of vow to customer service. Like even to the tune that middle names may possibly BE "customer service". We were able to make a request for a couple of kayaks AFTER the facility was closed. While I anticipated just leaving a message and had fingers crossed that we MIGHT be able to get some for the following afternoon - July 4 of all days - Shawn answered, worked some magic, and was able to round up a couple for the following morning. Not only were we able to get them, but in the morning as we had initially hoped yethadn'tgottenOURacttogetherandcalledwithmuchadvancenotice. These folks were extremely friendly and helpful. Not only were they able to accommodate our (late!) request for use of kayaks, but upon delivery attempted to coordinate their other deliveries to give us matching kayaks, as well as offered to drag them down to the lake for us. OMG. I would be only mildly surprised if they offered to mount the kayak and paddle my lazy arse around the lake for me. Oh, prices. Very reasonable. Love this place! People are really good here. We ordered three bikes for 24 hours and head outside delivery. We didn't even have to go inside. You could schedule everything right online. They were closed when we went to return them late at night so we just locked them in the back with the locks they provided us. I am an avid biker but generally dislike visiting bike stores for repairs and tune-ups because of the machismo culture that often pervades these kinds of establishments. I am happy to report that Suttons Bay Bikes couldn't be further from this stereotype. From the moment I called to inquire about making an appointment, Brian was both helpful and kind. I dropped my two bikes off during the madness that is the 4th of July in Suttons Bay, but staff member Andrew still gave them a thorough going through at that time. Even though parts needed to be ordered, they turned around both bikes in an incredibly quick amount of time--less than 4 days. In a resort town, you would expect to pay top dollar for all services, but Suttons Bay Bikes has surprisingly reasonable rates (for example, they're currently running a $65 tune-up special). The bike techs will always discuss any estimated costs before they do the work, and I appreciated getting a fully itemized receipt at check out time. There were no surprises or hidden fees. My cousin regularly participates in Ironman triathalons, and he also trusts SBB to work on his top tier racing bike. They not only cater to tourists in town for summer tours on beach cruisers, but also more serious cyclists who ride through hundreds of miles on a regular basis. SBB sets an exceptional standard that far exceeds what you might expect from a small town operation. I look forward to making this my regular "up north" bike shop. read more

This is no small feat at a store heavily dependent on a tourist/rental business. Recently, one of the mechanics made a judgement call, sort of following my lead, on a small repair for me. My wife and I did their self guided biking tour of the wineries around Sutton's Bay. It was probably the best part of our anniversary weekend. Great value, good exercise, wine and beautiful scenery. Their friendly staff set you up and walk you through the map. They give you a water bottle and you get to order lunch from a deli in Sutton's Bay which is delivered to you at the second stop. When you buy a bottle of wine at any of the wineries on the tour you text the bike shop and they pick up the wine for you and bring it back to the shop. It was an excellent experience that my wife and I highly recommend. read more

My wife and I rented a double person kayak from these guys. The price was good but we had to haul the think down to the beach and back up again. Overall not a bad deal but watch out if you are not keen on portaging your own kayak! The water of the bay was beautiful. read more

This place added so much to my vacation! They have a wide selection of bikes and I was asked what size and type I normally ride. It was great that they personalized what I rented based on how/what I normally ride. The inside of this little shop is trendy and well organized. There was a young staff of three of four and everyone was friendly. I always expect young summer workers to be a little aloof, but these guys were great. I ended up returning my bike early due to an impassable TART trail - it had stormed the night before and there were downed trees everywhere. I was comped my ride, which was overly generous. I grew up in the area and my sister worked in the video rental store that used to occupy this space - it is overwhelming to see how much SB has "grown up" and reached it's potential of being a destination that offers something for everyone. I know how cheesy that sounds but I'm seriously pleased with my experience. read more

This place was buzzing with families and repair requests during the 4th of July holiday. My fiance and I waited patiently and watched the staff handle the crowds with ease. Even though we didn't have a reservation (whoopsies, didn't think about that!) they found us 2 bikes, nabbed us helmets, adjusted the seats, gave us a map and pointed us in the direction of the trail. We had a great time riding the Leelanau trail, starting out at Sutton's Bay Bike store. Nick and Carl were really helpful getting us oriented towards a tour of the local wineries. We brought our own bikes and they provided maps, some insights about different winery routes to try and a great lunch, which Carl dropped off for us at one of the wineries we stopped at. (For a very reasonable rate they also rent nice bikes.) We bought a few bottles at different places and all we had to do was call the store and they went out and collected our purchases for us.
