I've been hearing about Susi for months now and my mom's birthday was the perfect excuse to check it out and see what all the buzz was about. The service staff was friendly, attentive, and well informed about the menu. My mother is gluten and dairy intolerant, so you can imagine the Q and A that ensued. Mom has never had so many options at a restaurant. She usually has to special order meals and very rarely do any of them turn out enjoyable. The ambiance transports you away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Looking out from our table on the second floor I half expected a Mediterranean seaside view. The dish presentation and quality is top notch. We ordered two appetizers, three entrees, and two desserts. The courses came out in a timely manner and the amount of thought and care put into the dishes was apparent. I wish FaceBook had a 6th star for going above and beyond even slightly unreasonable expectations. The server even joined us in singing Happy Birthday to my mom. Although slightly embarrassed, I know it meant the world to my mom. FYI, I posted this review on Zomato verbatim but like SUSI so much I wanted to post it on the other Foodie Apps I use.

I'm from LA and was searching for a vegan place in PH. This is a gem. I was so impressed that I liked every dish I ordered. I've tried their smoothies before and they're very good but they didn't have them this time but the food made up for it! Vegan chili, Greek salad and the vegan burger with lentils yummy and healthy.

Susi is the newest vegan restaurant in town. It is one of the biggest and most aesthetically pleasing among the restaurants in Manila's vegetarian/vegan scene. If you're veg, this would definitely be on the list of places to have a date in. I really enjoy the space - it's thoughtful, and that thoughtfulness seeps into the other elements of the dining experience. The restaurant has two floors. The first has an indoor garden-like dining area, an open kitchen, and a retail area that features vegan, gluten-free, and sustainable merchandise. The dining area on the second floor, on the other hand, is cosier. The seats along the walls all have pillows- even in the corner outside the restroom. It's one of those spaces that would have you 'ooh'-ing and 'ah'-ing at most every detail. What I like best about the place though is that it is so informative. Any question that one unfamiliar to the veg scene might ask is likely answered in its menu, including the good ol' 'Where do vegans get their protein, etc.?' The menu also has a glossary that describes ingredients that may be unfamiliar such as maca or sorghum flour. There are also books in the restaurant available to customers who want to have a browse. Food-wise, however, it's alright. Nothing spectacular from what I've tried. And a tad pricier than the average restaurant. I just enjoy the options.

Looked 5 stars but this was the saltiest out of all the food. Too bad.

My friend and i were looking for a vegan/ vegetarian restaurant and this came up on our google search around the area, Food looked really good but the taste was super disappointing, it was super salty. Everything was salty, like really salty. 2 stars because the place was nice and the guy who waited was nice enough. I imagined this place was a lot better when it opened and they just changed chefs. Too bad. I wish i could give it 3 stars but posting this review just made me remember how terrible the food was. I need water.

How can you have Beef and Broccoli without beef? Is there even a type of Barbecue that's not made out of meat? Well, Bodhi uses tofu as a meat substitute. Their food tastes so good, you can't even tell that everything is made out of tofu. It's way healthier and cheaper. I usually have issues concerning my weight. They've got loads of selections here (all veg!), as well as a shelf filled with interesting local and imported food products. Apart from the not-so-fast service, I'd recommend this place any day to anyone. I'd say get their quekiam (one of their specialties)--this erm..thing (I don't know, gluten or soy based mock meat?) is stuffed with savory veggies and mushrooms and comes with a spicy red sauce on the side. It's definitely not like the street kikiam which is made of god knows what! Super tasty appetizer... I was excited to try their veg sisig as it was one of their specialties, but I was a bit disappointed as the serving was quite small (at Php 170...) and while it was seasoned well and had a variety of mushrooms and minced tofu/soy/gluten (unsure...), I guess it lacked that creamy sauce that I loved when I used to eat the real pork sisig. It could use some veg mayo or some sauce to elevate it to a really satisfying sisig recreation. However, I should mention that it did come with crumbled chicharon (made of tofu skins) on top! I don't care to join either side of this debate. What i do is eat vegetarian dishes whenever possible, but still go for red meat and fowl on a regular basis. Whenever I am out on the field for work, I usually end up heading for the nearest SM food court to eat, and I'm glad that a lot of them have a branch of Bodhi Vegetarian Healthfood. The taste of their various vegemeat dishes comes close enough to the real thing. One of my favorites is their version of sweet and sour pork, as well as their pork barbecue on a stick. Biting into either dish tells you that it can't possibly be real pork. This is where the tofu-based dishes is a dead giveaway that it's not the real thing. But then, you would know because this is a vegan place, remember? Bodhi has set meals for less than P100 and they even come with a teeny weenie cup of iced tea or soda as well as a complimentary mini cup of soup. When I was young, the only place to get vegetarian meals on a regular basis was the Adventist Hospital in Pasay City. I guiltily thought about the inside of our fridge with all that stock of bacon, tocino and barbecue leftovers. So as much I wanted to quit meat cold turkey, we took some baby steps and made sure that if we'll ever be eating meat, it's got to be paired with something healthy. Like salad, or just any kind of veggies. With our brand new "healthier lifestyle" approach, we were naturally interested when we stumbled upon Green Pastures. I can't believe we haven't heard of this place. I scanned the prices first before the food. Wow. There is actually food for less than Php 200. When you're in a restaurant within Shangri La Mall and there's food for less than 200 bucks, and it's not even located in a food court, that's considered affordable already. You'd find that their menu has a LOT to offer and everything is deliciously described so prepare to spend about Php 1,500 for two. We couldn't decide between "GF Pork Chop" and "Duck Fat Fried Chicken (Probiotic)" so we asked the waiter's opinion which is better. He kind of compared Duck Fat Fried Chicken to KFC so the second I got the KFC visuals I had no choice but to get the GF Pork Chop instead. MEAT!!! Since it's meat, we paired it with Yang Chow Cauliflower Rice, so there! For drinks, I got the bottomless Moringa Ginger Lemon Grass Tea (refillable for Php 205). However, I got jealous when I saw from the next table a big pitcher of what looks like a citrusy mix of something ice cold and yummy. I totally overlooked that on the menu. It's called Agua Fresca and a pitcher is only Php 250 which seems to be good for 4 people. So we'll definitely order that next time instead of a bottomless ice tea for just one person. The bowl of Yang Chow Cauliflower Rice is good for two, and we were pleasantly surprised that it came with shrimps and a chunk of roast pork. In fact, if you're not starving, I can say that it can work as a standalone meal for two. It's pretty good! Compared to rice, it's not as heavy on the stomach. Towards the end of our bites though we start to notice that there's this oiliness factor to it, but I'm assuming it's some kind of healthy oil like olive oil. As for the GF Pork Chop, i hate to say it but it's good... tender and juicy. But the guava jam that came with it made it awesome! Next time, I'll probably try their whole grain bowl because it's got wildly organic things in it like kale and quinoa. So long, meat!

I even made a reservation last night to make sure that we could have a table for 10 at 1230. Upon arriving, a girl that looked like she was running the place was giving our reserved table away but quickly moved the other party to a different table. We ordered our food and in a few minutes one set of the Spring Rolls came out (we ordered two.) It took awhile before the second set came out. For soup, my grandfather ordered 1 roasted tomato soup, while my brother and my uncle ordered a mushroom soup each. For some reason, they kept giving us an extra mushroom soup which we kept sending back to the kitchen. When my grandfather's spaghetti bolognese came, we were all expecting that all our other orders would come. But after about 30 mins of waiting, we had followed up on the order and they just kept saying that it's coming. After a good hour and a half of being in the restaurant, and a few orders cancelled, my family decided to ask for the bill and just cancel everything. The staff continuously made excuses and said the food was coming. They even mentioned that they will have to pay for that themselves, but with service like that, my family just wanted to go eat elsewhere. While waiting for the bill, they asked us what orders came out! Shouldn't they know what orders they had already served us? When the bill finally arrived, the orders were wrong and they kept insisting that we ordered three mushroom soups. We kept giving it back, adding and removing some orders. The cashier edited the receipt at least SIX TIMES! To top it all off, the lady who looked like she was in charge of the place, didn't even bother to come to our table to apologize or anything. She just hid behind the counter, looking at her phone. When I thought she was finally going to talk to our table, she instead went to two other tables and talked to those groups. Another group that heard our complaining even said, "Really bad service." It's disappointing because I enjoyed what food I was able to taste, I was excited for the carbonara that never arrived, and this place has been getting very good reviews. I'm still deciding on whether or not I want to go back to try that carbonara, but as of now, I'm very disappointed at this place's service. See, I don't think a lot of people (myself included) know how to season vegetables well, or at least not right away, not with a lot of practice and research. This creates a misleading mindset for everyone else that veggies are bland and are "rabbit food", "cardboard", and even more depressing, a mere side dish to your meat. What I love about Edgy Veggy is how well-seasoned their food is. Even the rice included in their rice meals aren't simple, but flavored with spices and herbs and it really elevates your vegetable munching experience. I've tried a lot of veggie burgers, but so far, Edgy Veggy's mushroom burger patties are the most flavorful ones I've had in a long while. The texture's excellent, not mushy or too enveloped in breading unlike some veg burger patties, and the shiitake mushroom flavor is quite distinct, which I love. The Mushroom Panino is also quite good. However, I'm not a big fan of their Mushroom Longganisa much, as the rough/sandy texture doesn't sit too well with me, and the rice is quite too punch-y and overwhelming for my taste. If you're with friends, I really recommend you get the soy chai milk tea pot! Great to share and the chai flavor is so calming. In a perfect world, one where I actually have a lot of money, I would eat here every day. But, back to reality--this place is a bit overpriced. I've ordered from them twice already and the food I've tried are the (imported & eggless) chicken nuggets, (local & eggless) chicken nuggets, spare ribs, stewed meat, siomai, corn beef, and bbq. They all surprisingly look like the real thing! The ones I didn't fancy as much were the siomai (a bit too mushy for my liking), corned beef (sweeter than the real thing but great with diced potatoes and when you cook them in a longer time than usual so it has crunch) and stewed meat (tastes like Spam if you love those!).
