The half price apps from 4-6 are where it's at. They're super affordable. Been here 3 times and it's just great every time. Plus they have NA Asahi. The Sweet & Sour Calamari. Damn. It's probably the best calamari AND sweet & sour sauce I've ever had. I'm picky about that sauce too. Like really it's that good. I hope this place actually sticks around because it's so good. Everyone who works here is super good at what they do too. Super nice people. Oh, and ocean views.

I had my family in town and really hyped up their sushi as it was so fresh previously, I was so embarrassed when they brought out the dining equivalent to chicken nuggets. The prices are absolutely asinine, my family is already skeptical of CA prices and I was hoping to show them that sometimes they're worth it but instead this just reinforced the stereotype of paying $20 for prepackaged food. 2 stars because our waitress was super nice and gave us a free dessert. She was really apologetic as well. I hope they can turn it around, it's such a beautiful location, I'd hate to see it go to waste on such poor food.

It was a little hard to find the restaurant, especially since the sign is not right over the entrance, but just next to it where the small market is. Look for the Winchester Center sign next to the market. Since we arrived before it opened on a Sunday, we browsed in the market until it was tine to eat. We had a reservation for 6 of us, so they seated us at the one round table near the front. There is another longer table next to it on the left side where there's a colorful mural. The rest of the tables are booths. The restaurant is spacious and roomy and very clean. You can order items from the menu or build your own hot pot which is AYCE. Everyone in our party chose the hot pot. We were each brought a small blue pot that contained the sterno to heat up the soup and the broth of our choice inside. We also placed our meat order with our server. We went to the back-left corner to grab our veggies, and some other things to add to our hot pot. Our server came by often to take more meat orders, clear empty plates, and check if we needed more broth or if our sterno needed more fuel. Our server was delightfully cheerful and friendly. She was helpful and answered all of our questions, especially when we had to choose our broths. (Forgive me for forgetting your name!) I highly recommend calling ahead to make a reservation if you have a larger party. Accessibility notes: most of the tables are padded booths. If you can transfer and slide, you should be okay. Otherwise, see if you can sit at a table that has chairs on the left side. The restaurant is spacious enough to park your mobility aid (or stroller for babies) near you. The restrooms are located in the back-left corner, 2 single stall restrooms, one for men and one for women. There is enough room for someone to enter with their mobility aid and a helper companion. You can enter the restaurant without climbing a step, but I don't recall where the handicap accessible parking was since we used a regular parking space and I climbed up the curb. No one from the family is local, but my brother-in-law chose this restaurant because it's somewhere where we can meet in the middle. We all loved it, and are adding it to our rotation when we need to come together for a celebration.

They already mentioned that 20% service fee will be included. We were OK with that. However, the tax amount that was calculated was not correct. In San Diego, the tax % is 7.75%, however, this restaurant charges almost 10-11%. I was about to tell the server this, but my daughter and wife told me to let it go due to politeness. I don't think I will visit this restaurant again just because of their fraudulent practice.

We loved this place so much that we came back two days in a row, and what made it even more special was that they actually remembered us. That level of genuine care and attentiveness says everything about the people here. It made us feel welcomed, valued, and honestly like family instead of just another table walking through the door. You can immediately feel the heart behind everything they do, and that starts with Head Chef Tara. The level of detail, flavor, presentation, and consistency in every dish is incredible. You can tell Chef Tara truly cares about the food and about giving guests something memorable, not just another meal. Every plate felt thoughtfully crafted and full of personality. It is rare to find a chef who combines talent and heart so effortlessly. The service was equally amazing and honestly made the experience unforgettable. Nina, Stacy, and Damien were beyond exceptional. They were attentive, warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely kind. They created an atmosphere where you feel comfortable, appreciated, and taken care of from beginning to end. Their energy and hospitality are a huge reason we returned again the very next day. What stood out most was how personal everything felt. Nothing felt forced or transactional. The team created an environment full of positivity, comfort, and excitement, and that is something you simply cannot fake. Restaurants can have good food, but places like this, where the people make you feel at home while delivering an unforgettable dining experience, are truly rare. Animae deserves every bit of recognition and success coming its way. Huge thank you to Chef Tara, Nina, Stacy, and Damien for creating such an incredible experience. We will absolutely keep coming back and recommending this place to everyone we know.
