A friend and I were in the area and stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. They were relatively busy. We sat at the bar (to cheer on the Lions as they had small TVs over the sushi bar). Sushi Zen fits its name, relaxed environment while maintaining lovely decor. The service was fantastic. Our service Dov, was just the right level of friendly and engaging without ever being too much. He seemed to appear at exactly the right time. We order ginger salads, miso soup, and three rolls to split. The miso soup was a bit more flavorful than I've had at of restaurants, and we really liked it. The special California and the Alaska were the same as other good sushi places. My friend wanted to try the no name roll, which was baked, I didn't realize before ordering. I did not like it, but I am also not a fan of baked sushi, there was a sauce similar to a hot sauce on it I did not like. It was also too many flavors happening. The prices are the same as other similar quality sushi restaurants in the area. They do offer lunch specials, even on Sundays, that have a lunch price point .

Very cozy sushi place in Brighton. The TNT roll was tasty although it could use a little bit of spice. The dumplings were steamed perfectly and the salad was my favorite - so much flavor! Definitely recommend giving them a try.

Soup and salad came right away! Sushi itself was a bit of a wait and accidentally got 2 very similar rolls that we didn't end up liking. The mahi was on special for Thursday ladies night but it wasn't worth getting it was so bad flavor wise. Service was good that saved it a bit but overall wasn't wowed by this place. Small table made it feel cramped to be in there. I'd go again to try other rolls but might enjoy sitting at the sushi bar better next time.

I keep searching for a better sushi spot in the metro Detroit area, but time and time again, I find myself coming back to Sushi Zen. It still holds my number one spot for the overall best sushi. Honestly, I hate even writing this review because the wait can already be long, and it seems like more people are catching on--but it's no secret: their sushi is amazing. A true gem!

Excellent, every single time. I'm a sushi snob and this is one of my top places in metro Detroit for high quality sushi. It's always fresh, premium quality, and they have great cocktails to accompany the food. They also have real wasabi options to up charge for. The servers are veterans and provide excellent service. I recommend the cycle cabernet to accompany your meal. I also love the steamed broccoli and edamame as an appetizer.

Busy. Make a reservation. I followed Chef Nobu here but he has now left a few years ago. Still good however, the chef surprise is up to the head chef, which since Nobu left, is typically a lot of cooked, fried rolls and apps. The chef surprise has always been a nice blend of raw, rolls and feature apps. Still very good but not my cuppa. Great place to appease the whole family. They are not just a sushi joint. They have a good size dining room with great waitstaff though they are usually busy. There are specials each night so look up the list and enjoy martini Monday or half off bottles of wine. They do takeout and catering platters too.

the service was great! the ingredients are fresh and the ambiance is pretty good. The restaurant filled quickly and was busy and a little noisy. Food took a bit but was yummy! Good looking cocktail menu but we didn't try it today!!

Ok sushi is one of those that are either good or bad. Here its good probably the best in Livingston county IMO. It's in a strip mall but the decor is done well and doesn't make you feel like your doing sushi porn which is common with strip mall sushi. read more

There is no questioning the quality of the food and service at Sushi Zen. My only complaint is that I think the food is a little overpriced. The specialty rolls are brilliant and delicious, but, it is hard to justify the price most of the time. Regardless, we love the place and will continue to come, we just wish there was more competition in town to bring down their prices. read more

One of my favorite places to eat in Brighton. Some of my favorites are Boss Roll, Avocado Bomb, Shrimp Tapas, Chicken Yakisoba, U of M Roll, Fisherman Roll, White Tiger Roll. The salad with the ginger dressing is refreshing and delicious. A great place to eat! read more

Wow my first time here with my wife and the sushi was awesome and the Long island will be back I never tried sushi before but the California roll was awesome and the pardise roll and the loin king roll also very pleasant place set at the sushi bar and watched the employee prepare and actually learned how to roll just by watching but I will leave that up to them lol read more

I am so sad I hadn't been here till now! Helpful, friendly, efficient staff. Creative, HUGE menu. (Who doesn't love choices???) I loved the variety of veggie roll options--they have one with strawberries and avocado on top! Totally worth the extra $$$ in comparison to my usual haunts. Only gripe is how if you're sitting at a 2 person table and you have two other full tables next to you, you may as well be sitting at a six person table all together. I really hate not feeling like I can have a conversation with my SO because everyone around me is listening. read more

This was my first at the Zen of Sushi, and it did not disappoint. You know it's a good sign with there's a huge line, and the line this evening was massive, definitely worth the wait. I come to this restaurant frequently. I like it because it's probably the only sushi place in downtown Brighton(local hibachi place stopped serving sushi). The food here is not bad, and you can get some Korean dish here too. My biggest complaint about the restaurant is the smell. It's like a sour and fermented smell. I'll give it a 4 star if it's not for the smell. read more

Service was great and we got to sit at the bar to watch them make our sushi. The tempura rolls had a little too much dough on them so it was a little chewy for that type of roll. The soup was amazing! We had a really great time. They have an app as well so you can earn punches for discounts. read more

Such a great variety of fresh, fun and exciting rolls. I go for the diablo roll for a spicy kick and the scallops on top are amazing! Very great dine in experience as well before COVID. They are handling the take out well with precautions and handling orders/ payment. Always recommend this place to fellow sushi lovers! read more

Well done Gabe, well done. I love it when a server can recommend a drink or a dish and it turn out to be a fantastic suggestion. Sushi Zen was packed tonight but we didn't have to wait. Our server {all of them really} were mindfully busy and helping each other out. The timing of our cocktails, soup and salads then sushi was nicely spaced out. The sushi... Delightful. Imagine us. Twenty miles away. Starving. Sushi? Absolutely. Sushi Zen is the place to Brighton your day. The rolls rival even the best dispensaries in Metro Detroit. Addictive? It's hard to say. But yes. They melt in your mouth like the heroin in my veins. Enough about the food though. Let's dive into Devon. Our waitress created an atmosphere of love and hope that no longer exists in this post-apocalyptic hellscape. She knew me inside and out. Taught me what sushi really could be. Her recommendations rivaled even the most seasoned restauranteur. Gordon Ramsay's got nothing on her. 10/10 would recommend to a friend. This sushi has brought Zen to my life. To find Kalbi and Bulgogi in the middle of Michigan spot on was a delight. Add to that the amazing Hello Kitty dessert (tempura apple with foamy whipped cream) and fried Tempura Green Tea ice cream, just WOAH! My 9 and 12 years olds said, the miso soup, ginger dressing salad and California rolls were awesome, that says a lot where the basics are phenom. Super star service all around! This is by far my favorite restaurant for sushi! Their 'Spectacular' Roll is literally the best roll I've ever had. I always get it deep fried and add cream cheese instead of mozzarella! Nothing special to note about this roll for me. The Dolsot is okay, would be nicer to have a spicy grilled chicken option, as some places offer. Still not too bad.

Its ok we had better sushi. I guess with limited sushi places in the area to compare too they shine. The fish freshness was ok. We had to send a dish back but they responded with a replacement at no charge. The place is crowded with tables so if you have personal or confidential topics to discuss this is not the place for you. Its not comfortable hear other customers' discussions. When you first walk up to the place, you really don't expect it to be as nice as it is. It's in a strip mall, next to a CVS. The interior was as my expectations were set pretty low. Five stars for consistently being awesome. I've been to Sushi Zen a dozen times or so and never had a bad experience. The food, service, and atmosphere are always top notch! The best sushi I have ever had. I love every roll I have tried (Crazy Girl, Ninja, New York, Rainbow, Firecracker and Michigan being some of my very favorites). I have never been able to find another sushi place that offers the same incredible taste combined with such a fair value. Everything is always fresh and the chefs are wet talented and personable. The best sushi you will ever have!!!!! Can not be beat! The tempura rolls here are out of this world... The las vegas roll which has cheese, salmon, crab, avocado is the best thing I've ever had.. It is topped with spicy mayo and eel sauce and I get it every time! The White Tiger roll, Msu roll, boss roll, and crunchy roll are also some of my favorites! Growing up in Brighton, a craving for sushi used to mean planning a trip to Ann Arbor, Novi, or Lansing. I was skeptical of Sushi Zen when they first arrived, but they won me over. Consistent service, great variety, and A+ ambiance. I've never been let down by a meal at Sushi Zen. It can get loud on weekends, especially when the local high schools are having formal dances. Best sushi place I have ever eaten at!! They never disappoint. As you can see, we are frequent flyers. Favorite rolls are Spectacular, Red Wings, Hustler, Fusion, and Cajun TNT. We also love the avocado boat (appetizer) and the avocado dressing for our salad (instead of the ginger). My kids love the Crazy Boy and the Teriyaki Chicken Bento Box. read more

The only thing keeping this from a five star rating is the drink prices. There's no pricing on the menu, so getting the billing and seeing $18 for two, small rum and cokes is doubled the price as anywhere else. read more

Most of the menu is deep fried. Great place for "non" sushi fans. I think most of the positive reviews are from people who live close and don't want to travel to a real good place. I wouldn't say it's bad. I'm just saying it's as close to sushi as Taco Bell is to Mexican food. read more

Excellent restaurant, it can get pretty busy sometimes though! Especially Saturday nights it's tough to get a spot and they don't let you do reservations. Prepare to wait for about 45 minutes at peak times. Keep an eye out for coupons online. read more
