Really enjoyed the sushi selection. We opted for the lunch AYCE buffet which excluded some specialty rolls. Dinner AYCE buffet gives you the full menu but Lunch satisfied us. We got there close to opening and there were folks at the sushi bar, and 2 other tables seated. They have slips for you to fill out and no limit to how many to order. We selected majority of our meal during the first round. Overall it was great, service was quick but I'm not sure if their system would work if there were more patrons. Our waitress was nice to prepare a huge dessert for my husband's birthday! She was very friendly and accommodating. We will definitely come back the next time we are in South Lake Tahoe.

Not sure what all of the fuss is about on their recent reviews for multiple one stars. I was on a mission to check them out again, it's been one year since my dad and I went in November 2024, where we had a lovely experience. Since this is the only all you can eat sushi restaurant in South Lake Tahoe, we knew this is where we wanted to go on this Tuesday night. We got there early to check out the casino that is connected to the restaurant and so we walked in shortly after 5 o'clock. We chose our seat at the bar, which is the best place to sit, in my opinion. Especially if you want great service, I recommend getting to know your sushi chef. We had the pleasure of meeting Francisco and I think he told us his nickname is Kiko. I started off by washing my hands in the bathroom, which was extremely clean and spotless so to my surprise, I thought, wow clean is a good sign. To make this short and sweet we ordered amazing Nigiri a couple of appetizers, buy one get one free house sake, and we only shared two long rolls because we filled up quickly. My only complaint was that I couldn't find anyone to fill up my water until the very end so Francisco filled it up for me. Sushi makes me thirsty! All in all we had a four star experience and I'll keep it at that for now.

Surprise fee. Dirty dish. Poor food quality. I was pretty sad about this experience. I had come here in 2019 when my son was an infant, and today I was trying to recreate a good memory. Even my son, who is now 7, wasn't happy with this place. Food prices don't match the quality, the grocery store has better sushi without hidden fees and tip pressure. I won't return again. Even the staff seemed unhappy and burned out, likely because they have to deal with unhappy customers all day. I know that it's not their fault and this is just a business going downhill. Lastly, the iconic sticker wall that was at the entrance is gone. I've worked in a fast casual sushi restaurant. I have a decent understanding of what sushi restaurant etiquette should be. This restaurant is an overall disappointment and waste of my money. As a single mother going out to eat is a rare and special occasion. This bad experience was hurtful.

    Really salty miso soup.

The food here was okay. Not the best, not the worst. Some items like the stuffed deep fried squid and upside down crab were pretty good. I didn't like that the nigiri and hand rolls had way too much rice. There was so much rice, we didn't even bother ordering sushi rolls and we did the AYCE. The rice was also hard. Kids' price for AYCE is the same as adults. For that, I am docking a star. They do have a kids menu to order separately from, but the fact that my two year old only took 4 bites of his food, it would have been nice to have the 3 and under eat free option. This is the first AYCE restaurant I've been to that doesn't have that. I ordered the miso soup and it was very salty. The quail egg shooters were also salty. I ordered the house salad thinking it was going to be made with green spring mix and a delicious sauce like other sushi restaurants. Instead, it was cabbage with a mayonnaise dressing which I did not like. Customer service was good and the waitress came over often. It's a decent and quiet little restaurant. Were I to come here again, I would skip the salmon and tuna hand rolls because they were simple and bland with tones of rice.

Got greeted and seated right away! Ended up doing all you can eat sushi and it was pretty good. The miso soup was really salty but other than that, the sushi itself was good! The place was spacious and lots of seating. All the workers were very nice and accommodating. I love how our orders got taken care of right away. Would go again to try other things.

Ask the Community - Sushi Pier Tahoe

Are there appetizers and other food included in the AYCE?

Yes. Appetizers and desserts as well.

If only a few people in your party want AYCE can others just order individual rolls or does everyone have to get AYCE?

Each customer may order AYCE or individual rolls as they would prefer. We ask that customers participating in the AYCE do not share their items with those ordering individually. Thank you!

Do they still serve AYCE sushi?

Yes they do, both for lunch and dinner, very limited seating right now so plan ob a bit of a wait

Difference between lunch or dinner AYCE?

All the same deal, not sure if night prices are different but we've been at lunch and dinner and their sushi is SUPERB. Service is great, staff is nice, food is outstanding !!!

How long is wait for dinner?

Unless you are in during off-hours or off-season, there is always a wait here but it is worth it <3

I then called the restaurant to ask if it was possible for them to accommodate 1 more small order since I didn't want my friend to starve and be left out. The young lady on the phone wasn't aware that she wasn't on mute and said "These 5 girls should've placed one fu**ing order instead of multiple". But logically, wouldn't one big order still take the same time as 5 separate ones? I understand that the restaurant was busy. I work in the industry myself. But this behavior was UNACCEPTABLE. She even asked my friend if she could order something easy such as a side of rice. Ok so if i wanted one bowl of rice why the hell would I even place a togo order for that? Once we got our order, I talked to the manager and he was shocked at what had happened. Please hold your employees to a higher expectation because as a paying customer, I wanted a refund but it was too late to ask. Places like this that have limited seating and know that the wait is very long should have a reservation system. There were a good amount of tables open, but maybe they were short on staff since they were not seating people? We finally got to sit down and overall the whole experience took along time. Long time for waiter to come get our order and VERY long time to get our food so much so the waiter had to apologize (and indicated that they forgot if they had taken our order). The prices are a little high, but it's Tahoe so I guess that is a given. The rolls were ok. Creative but flavor was ok. Overall with the long wait and the mid flavor I would not come back.

We have deep Laos roots and are very familiar with Thai cuisine, so we were hoping for something that felt more like home--but overall, the flavors were a bit lacking. The Crying Tiger was disappointing mainly because it wasn't pre-cut. I spent about 15 minutes cutting the meat myself, which meant the rest of my food got cold by the time I could actually enjoy it. That said, the Mango Sticky Rice was AMAZING--definitely the highlight of the meal and the one dish that really stood out. Service started off a bit rough. Our server initially seemed short and not very welcoming. Interestingly, once they realized we spoke Thai and we began ordering in Thai, the service noticeably improved and felt much more friendly. Overall: decent food, great dessert, but a few things kept it from being a standout experience.

I'll definitely be back, and next time I want to try the full course. The restaurant itself is beautiful overall. Only small thing for me was that it got a little smoky at times, and the wine tasted slightly old, although my server confirmed the bottle had been opened recently. I genuinely do not understand how this place has such high ratings, and is well acclaimed by…read moremagazines and newspapers. We spent around $700 for two people and it was one of the most disappointing dining experiences we've had -- not just in Tahoe, but anywhere near this price point. The food was wildly inconsistent. Several dishes were overly salty to the point where it completely overpowered everything else. Others were just forgettable (like the beet salad). For a tasting menu that's supposed to be carefully curated, it felt sloppy and poorly thought out. On top of that, the portions were tiny -- even by fine dining standards -- and we left still hungry, which is pretty unacceptable given what we paid. For example the fish was probably a 3-4 oz portion. Many of the dishes were the same size as the a la carte menu, but for the tasting were meant to be shared for 2 adults. That means you are paying 400 dollars for dishes that can be bought for 40 bucks on the menu. The exact same size.... What is going on.... Service was just as frustrating. It wasn't outright rude, but it was disorganized and careless in ways that really matter. We ordered an extra dish and no one bothered to tell us it was already included in the tasting menu -- so we ended up paying extra for something redundant. That's a basic failure and honestly felt borderline deceptive. Drink service was slow, and mis-timed. What really pushed it over the edge: my wife is pregnant, and instead of putting any real thought into substituting a raw fish/uni course, they gave her a duplicate of another dish already being served, and was a dish that we extra ordered. No creativity, no effort -- just the easiest possible workaround. For a restaurant trying to position itself as high-end, that's inexcusable. This place charges like a top-tier dining experience but delivers something far below that level. It feels like they're relying on hype and location rather than execution. Save your money. There are far better places in Tahoe (and beyond) that actually justify the price. Would not return.
