Really enjoyed the sushi selection. We opted for the lunch AYCE buffet which excluded some specialty rolls. Dinner AYCE buffet gives you the full menu but Lunch satisfied us. We got there close to opening and there were folks at the sushi bar, and 2 other tables seated. They have slips for you to fill out and no limit to how many to order. We selected majority of our meal during the first round. Overall it was great, service was quick but I'm not sure if their system would work if there were more patrons. Our waitress was nice to prepare a huge dessert for my husband's birthday! She was very friendly and accommodating. We will definitely come back the next time we are in South Lake Tahoe. read more

Came for lunch about 130pm on a Thursday afternoon. Completely dead. It was us (4 adults, 1 9month old & 1 3 yo (turned 3 in Feb) and 2 people at the bar. Food came out quick but server disappeared. We cleared the table and the server still did not come back to take our 2nd order. Waited a bit, then called her name to get her attention since she was on her cell phone. To put the cherry on top, they charged full price for our 3 yo. So eat elsewhere if you have kids, not worth it. read more

A group of us came here for Valentine's Day. The guys called a day ahead and were told to get there by 4:30/5 as they didn't take reservations. We all did the all you can eat options- I love that you get to order it and then they make it versus having stuff ready and out (self-serve). I don't even post reviews but last nights visit was very bad. The food/rolls were delicious as always this is not about the sushi!! This is about the service I've been coming here for the last 10 years and the last 3 times have been bad with servers just never coming back, consistently forgetting stuff very very very visible the lack of training they get. Sat at the bar last night for first time in forever and the sushi chef who was very clearly new WHICH IS FINE but the fact that im receiving 1 roll every 10-15 min was ridiculous we sat at the bar for a total of 1hr 30 min to receive 4 rolls and 6 pieces of nigiri and as we thought he was making the 3 other rolls we ordered after maybe 15 min of silence he says "you guys getting anything else" almost lost my shii lol leaving hungry after paying for AYCE is a slap in the face!!!! read more

I'm next door, in Cali, and the all you can eat sushi places are a rare entity now-a-days. I go to Tahoe a few times a year. Forget sight seeing, come here to Sushi Pier! All you can eat, which means all the rice too, and you can order a few as you go. All the fish was fresh, the salmon was buttery, and the service was top notch! Not sure what all of the fuss is about on their recent reviews for multiple one stars. I was on a mission to check them out again, it's been one year since my dad and I went in November 2024, where we had a lovely experience. Since this is the only all you can eat sushi restaurant in South Lake Tahoe, we knew this is where we wanted to go on this Tuesday night. We got there early to check out the casino that is connected to the restaurant and so we walked in shortly after 5 o'clock. We chose our seat at the bar, which is the best place to sit, in my opinion. Especially if you want great service, I recommend getting to know your sushi chef. We had the pleasure of meeting Francisco and I think he told us his nickname is Kiko. I started off by washing my hands in the bathroom, which was extremely clean and spotless so to my surprise, I thought, wow clean is a good sign. To make this short and sweet we ordered amazing Nigiri a couple of appetizers, buy one get one free house sake, and we only shared two long rolls because we filled up quickly. My only complaint was that I couldn't find anyone to fill up my water until the very end so Francisco filled it up for me. Sushi makes me thirsty! All in all we had a four star experience and I'll keep it at that for now. read more

I ordered takeout sushi on Christmas Eve for my family while we were staying in Lake Tahoe for the holidays. When we got home and opened the order, the food was completely unacceptable. The rice tasted off, the tempura shrimp tasted like it had been sitting out for a long time, and we ordered two different vegetable rolls that were also inedible. I called the restaurant immediately and spoke with a manager, who said I would receive a call back the next business day regarding a refund. No one ever followed up, so I had to call again. I was then told the owner needed to process the refund. Two weeks later, well after the holidays, I checked my bank statement and saw the charge had fully posted with no refund issued. I contacted the restaurant again, and the manager was unapologetic and unhelpful. Between the poor food quality and the lack of accountability afterward, this was a very disappointing experience. Do NOT go here! Like so many reviews from the past 5-6 months, I am also one who used to love coming here, but tonight was simply terrible, from the service to the quality of the food. I made a critical error and did not read the most recent reviews before coming - never again, be sure to check recent reviews for all restaurants you are going to. Food costs are going up everywhere, so the $45 per person for AYCE was a bit of a surprise, but not terribly so. Our server took my order and part of my friend's then stopped and handed us a pre-printed sheet for us to write down our choices. OK, but why take part of an order? 15 minutes later no nigiri and no rolls. The person who seated us then brings part of our order, we ask what the specific items are and she shrugs then walks away as she has no idea. The rest of the order comes a few minutes later and we guess what items are on the plate. The Mountain Roll has a weird sweet taste to it, sauce that just doesn't go with sushi. The smoked salmon nigiri is interesting but wildly aggressive smoke flavor, the BBQ Seared Tuna nigiri is not only not BBQ'd, it is not seared. Our server returns and we are so disappointed in the flavor of the rolls - but we spent $45 each so we order more nigiri, and then again she takes the order, then hands us a paper to fill out the order ourselves and she comes back a few minutes later to take the order a second time. Another 15 minutes pass, only two orders of nigiri arrive, and 15 minutes later the rest still has not arrived. We ask the hostess who delivers the food and she again does not know what we are talking about. The server returns and says they are busy, does not go get the rest of our food, just mumbles on more about being busy - 5 tables of diners the entire time we were there. We ask for our check and let her know both the food and service were not very good, she hands us the check and says we should come back, it will be better next time. Read the reviews from the last few months, it is not going to get better, they still lose orders, they still serve bad food, they need to shut down. read more

Let me get it started. $45 per person is a joke. my daughter is 9 year old and they don't care 45$. 1 server is nice only one that speak English. It's OK we're cool with that. Sit down for about 15 minutes and severe come by. We asked for miso soup and appetizer. Soup was using salt water, salty as hell we asked for hot water to put them in. Here comes the food. I took a couple pictures just go ahead and look at it. They say we have to finish all the rice that is on the rolls. And sushi. So I ordered red snapper and they gave me tilapia. I told him it's tilapia. It's not red snapper and they looking at me like I'm crazy.. I'm a Sushi Chef. I know what I'm ordering. It was horrible. The service is very bad, all the staff is watch soccer game. When I walk in all the staff was watching soccer game, no one see me. And when I told them table for two. The server was let us stand there for 5min. And all the sushi chef and server is keep watching the game. No one tells me how long for the wait or anything. read more

The food here was okay. Not the best, not the worst. Some items like the stuffed deep fried squid and upside down crab were pretty good. I didn't like that the nigiri and hand rolls had way too much rice. There was so much rice, we didn't even bother ordering sushi rolls and we did the AYCE. The rice was also hard. Kids' price for AYCE is the same as adults. For that, I am docking a star. They do have a kids menu to order separately from, but the fact that my two year old only took 4 bites of his food, it would have been nice to have the 3 and under eat free option. This is the first AYCE restaurant I've been to that doesn't have that. I ordered the miso soup and it was very salty. The quail egg shooters were also salty. I ordered the house salad thinking it was going to be made with green spring mix and a delicious sauce like other sushi restaurants. Instead, it was cabbage with a mayonnaise dressing which I did not like. Customer service was good and the waitress came over often. It's a decent and quiet little restaurant. unfortunately, everything just kind of sucked. None of the food i'd describe as tasting good. Most of the meal was a sort of an "eh it's food" thought process. I personally wasn't a fan of the excessive use of crab stick, and the fish looked good but was concerningly soft and mushy. The most unpleasant experience was biting into a spoiled piece of avocado which ruined my appetite for the last couple pieces, which I then got charged $3 extra for not eating. Don't fall for the allure of "all you can eat". Go anywhere else and get however much sushi you can for $35 and you'll be much happier. read more

Ambience is very cool, the rare vintage rock n roll print memorabilia is a nice touch but the service here is not so good. You have to wait a while to order, wait for refills and you have to wait to get your check, so tons of waiting. Surprise fee. Dirty dish. Poor food quality. I was pretty sad about this experience. I had come here in 2019 when my son was an infant, and today I was trying to recreate a good memory. Even my son, who is now 7, wasn't happy with this place. Food prices don't match the quality, the grocery store has better sushi without hidden fees and tip pressure. I won't return again. Even the staff seemed unhappy and burned out, likely because they have to deal with unhappy customers all day. I know that it's not their fault and this is just a business going downhill. Lastly, the iconic sticker wall that was at the entrance is gone. I've worked in a fast casual sushi restaurant. I have a decent understanding of what sushi restaurant etiquette should be. We used to live in the area and went to Sushi Pier regularly. They have gone significantly down hill. The fish was just not good. Even our favorites of Himachi and Salmon tasted as though it wasn't fresh and was poorly stored. The sushi rice tasted old, or just poorly made. Rolls were poorly assembled and lacking flavor. We came for lunch, it was us and another table, and somehow the waitress struggled to provide decent service or make us feel welcome. The final straw was our waitress took our card, and brought out the plates, that was it. Never refilled waters or tended to anything else, and we had a required 18% gratuity added to our bill. The gratuity was added on top of tax, and then had a CC usage fee. read more

If you ask me, this place is a replica of Panda Express that sells very expensive, sub par sushi, with the audacity to charge 3.5% for credit card usage. This is my last time eating here, regretfully not coming back... My kid ordered udon, the one dish that you can't mess up but I think they added liquid smoke to the broth. In my many years on Earth, it was the nastiest udon with mushrooms? why? couldn't you just use Japanese shoyu soup base in the broth.. It was inedible and the audacity to charge $19?!!! (Highway robbery) The rice on the rolls tastes worse than my day old rice. In preparation, they didn't soak and cook the rice properly. The beef teriyaki had the sweetest/ thickest brown sauce on it (that is not Japanese teriyaki style). I really felt bad for my other kid eating it and took some excess sauce out bc it was too sweet, thick, and salty. The rolls we ordered weren't the $19 ones but we still ordered several. They looked and tasted sad. The service was simply so disappointing and won't visit again. This is not an authentic Japanese sushi establishment if you ask me. There are 5 servers, and only one server was decent/ nice.. the other server did nothing and acted busy... when my husband asked a simple question about the menu, she responded with a What?! And walked away..???! This place is going downhill, just look at the exterior.. I'm livid my family had to eat here during our Tahoe trip. It was one of those nights where a cup of noodles would've been better with no wait and convenience. I went to eat & get some dinner. I should have just turned around & walked out after just seeing employees in there with the smell of cigarette smoke in the restaurant. If there was a smoking section, cool, i would have asked to sit in it because they were always better ventilated than other parts of restaurants, but obviously those days are gone. After a few hours, something wasn't right. Started feeling warm, next thing, I'm having to pull over to a gas station to get some water so I could puke to make the sweats & watery saliva stop. After I puked up that fish, I was good. That was the only thing I ate that I didn't prepare myself. I use to enjoy this place but I'm not going to be going back there anymore. Not unless they start addressing the issues they have going on there because they clearly have let quality slip & now it got so bad that it made me puke. read more

Love this place! I remember when they opened. They have changed a bit since then though. The staff was friendly enough. We were seated quickly as they had just opened and they weren't busy yet. We opted not to do the all you can eat this time around as two of my kids don't really eat sushi. We tried to order fairly quickly so we weren't caught up in any kind of Saturday lunch rush. It was weird though, we got some of our sushi before the miso soups we ordered. It was weird though that it wasn't busy and everything we ordered took a while to arrive at the table. As usual though everything was really good. I love the cooked scallops they do here and we usually order yellowtail hand rolls. My personal favorite is the Marilynn long roll. Back in the day the sushi chef would make me a hand roll version but he doesn't work here any more. read more

There was only one other table in the restaurant but instead of being attentive we had to get up and hand them our all-you-can-eat sheets every time we wanted to order something new. Also, they just let the dirty dishes pile up. They'd drop off a new plate and run away without offering to remove anything. This AYCE option included appetizers, nigiri, long rolls, dinner long rolls, and even dessert. Keep in mind that they have an excessive waste fee, so don't order more than you anticipate being able to eat. For the sushi, you make tally marks next to the sushi that you'd like to order and the server comes back quite promptly with your orders. Great little sushi spot in South Lake Tahoe! We sat at the sushi bar and had a great experience -- friendly service and a chill atmosphere. Tried several rolls (the Joey Ramone and Sushi Pier Roll were standouts) and some ramen, which was super tasty. Our non-adventurous kids were happy with the California roll, so it's a win for families too. They offer an all-you-can-eat special, which we skipped, but the sushi quality was so good it's probably worth it. Full bar and a solid happy hour. Definitely recommend! read more

This is what happens when you're late to having a say on dinner.... Ordered our food on the phone for take out. Came in and the host was super nice. Place looked unsanitary so my hopes on the food weren't too high. Seen how the food plates were coming out and seemed sloppy. Finally to our order..... they forgot my wife's Sashimi order so that was really upsetting. Heading back there now.... Asked for medium rare on my steak teriyaki (which is a pretty thick cut) and it's freaking medium well to well done... smothered with some store bought teriyaki sauce, side of slaw and edamame. Ordered mixed tempura dinner and it came with 6 pcs of shrimp not tempura, coleslaw and edamame that they didn't bother seasoning. So many little things can be fixed and adjusted in their menu but it just looks and tastes like they don't care. Only reason for the 2 stars is the nice host. I just stopped taking photos of the rest of the food... you guys are the only sushi spot within minutes of these hotels and food is just not that good. Please do better and turn it all around. So much potential with the area. Super disappointing Editing stars.... Back to 1 wish it had zero stars....cane back and they said here's your $16 back for the sashimi..... we just closed and can't cut up Sashimi....
