Take out sushi bowl
Sarah S.

Pros: Friendly greeting, discussed options for the sushi bowl with sauces. Fish and ingredients were fresh, enjoyed the sushi sauce and spicy mayo options with my bowl. Cons: The wait for my bowl was longer than 10 mins, as they had a long line of customers show up after my order was placed. They ran out of sushi rice and noticed the portions in our bowls seemed small. We ordered half salad, half rice where they use iceburg lettuce. The bowl was decent overall, but we didn't end up feeling this would be a regular place to order from.

Amazing poke bowl, maybe the best I've ever had. Different experience from poke places that prepare the bowl in front of you but it came out exactly as desired with nice portions and sauce. High quality and great prices, looking forward to returning.

Wow. What a hidden gem! Did not expect to find such a great poke/sushi spot coming home from a rodeo in Salinas. The ratings are 100% correct. My girlfriend and I both got a poke bowl which is stacked with toppings. They also had noodles and wontons etc that looked good, but we didn't get that. They also have tons of cool Japanese snacks and treats which I also didn't grab because I'm tryna cut back for my summer body unfortunately. Next time! Overall I'm impressed with the food and Mike who helped us out. Will keep this place in mind if I'm ever in the area again.

I ordered ahead online for takeout. Previous reviews about parking being difficult are true, but it wasn't impossible. The store itself has a lot of cute little goods that I wish I was able to look at more, but I was in a rush. They were quick to get me my order and I was so happy with how pretty it looked. It also tasted incredible and I was so glad there wasn't an extra charge for avocado. Absolute gem in Salinas, definitely coming again.

Tempura sushi with fried onion, California roll, seaweed salad

Cozy establishment that serves Japanese and Korean food. Although the place is called "Sushi Hut" I was surprised that the menu didn't have sushi items. But there was packaged/prepared sushi in an open fridge for a grab-n-go experience. The sushi we decided to grab was pretty good. The California roll was only $6.50 which is a steal for the quality. The pork chashu ramen was a tad bit too salty for my liking but the toppings were plentiful. The seaweed salad was $5 dollars, not too bad but it's a little pricey for a side dish. The service was quick, attentive, and overall excellent. Will come again to try other dishes!

This poke spot is my holy grail. They memorized my order and everything. 100/10 cannot recommend ENOUGH. I haven't found another poke spot that comes close to the consistency and quality they provide. #supportsmallbusinesses

Poke bowl with salmon and spicy tuna.

Fast service and no wait on a Wednesday shortly after opening. There were several good options to choose from; I decided on a poke bowl which was visually appealing and was very fresh. Pineapple was a good addition to balance the flavors. Staff were more than helpful through the ordering process and checked in on us after settling in with our food. Mom got the gyoza soup but missed more veggies, she seemed to like the tempura premade roll from the display case, as it was gone before I could snap a picture.

We saw this spot on the news and part of yelp's top 100 sushi spots so we had to check it out! It's a small family owned business and the staff was super nice and helpful. It's a tiny and very casual shop with limited sushi roll options but the fish was very fresh. There are 3-4 tables inside for dining in but you are served with take out material. This is the only thing I was a bit disappointed, maybe it will change in the future! The mini market in the center is also unique and so are the art pieces on the walls done by a local artist!

I was getting my car serviced at a dealership off of Boronda today and decided to scratch this itch, based on the Yelp reviews. I ordered the legendary poke bowl and opted for brown rice, salmon, tuna, and shrimp proteins. Let me tell you; this was on point! Friendly service, too. I'll be back!

Satisfying $13 Poke bowl

This family business is somewhat tucked away in the El Super market shopping center off E Boronda Rd. Poke Bowl ($13) Start with your base: White Rice, Brown Rice, or Lettuce then pick your Protein (choose 3) : Salmon, Tuna, Spicy Tuna, Octopus, Shrimp, or Eel Sauce: Add ins Includes: Avocado, Cucumber, Carrot, Daikon, Crab Salad, Mango, Fresh Seaweed Salad, Wasabi, Ginger, and Lemon Finally finish it off with sauces of your choice Chili Sesame, Ponzo, Spicy Mayo, Sushi Sauce, Citrus, Ginger Vinaigrette, or Sriracha While the fish isn't "sushi grade quality" it's presentation and very fair portion is on par for what you pay. Service is fast and friendly and they checked in on me 3x to see if I was good. The place is kept constantly clean, has about 4 tables mixed within the little market shelves of Asian snacks and beverages you normally would see in San Jose Asian stores. They also have a few pre-made "to-go" choices for the convenience of dash n' dine. Definitely worth a return visit to try other menu options. Ask the Community - Sushi Hut

Can you make the sushi rolls with soy or tapioca wraps?

No, they only offer seaweed wrappers for their rolls

Why does the ramen egg look hard boiled? Do they do soft boiled as is typical in ramen?

They're in between a soft and hard boiled egg imo! Medium boiled eggs, if you will.

Do you accept apple pay?

Yes! But they charge a service fee (.50¢) for orders less than $10.

The atmosphere is very calm not to loud ( sometimes music is so loud in some restaurants) but it was perfect in here.. Definitely I'm going to be a returning customer.. Everyone one who works there knows exactly what they're doing to make this place run so smoothly. Thank you for a great experience

It's been a few years since I've been to Kokoro but today I had a craving. I called my order in…read morebecause I get a very short window to run out and grab food. When I spoke to the person who took my order she was having a hard time hearing me and she said their phone is like that sometimes. I eventually got to a point where she said she could hear me. I ordered Some sunomono with crab and I asked for a "Kokoro Sashimi" with the "Salmon Sashimi" which I included what that is in the photos with this review. The young lady immediately asked me which type of Ca roll I'd like with it. I said it doesn't come with a Ca roll it comes with rice, salad and soup. Very insistently the young lady said we don't have a "Kokoro Sashimi" only a "combo" I said I'm looking at it right now on your website and it says you do have what I'm asking for. After a few minutes of back and forth and being put on hold she comes back with yes they do have that. I said Great!! With salmon please. She the. Said literally right after I said that "What kind of Sashimi did you want? I said SAlMON" please. She the repeated my order as "Tuna" sashimi and Again I corrected her and said SALMON please not Tuna I do not like Tuna. She said oh okay. She asked if wanted anything else I said no thank you and she again... says That was "Tuna?? Right??" ‍‍ I said no I would like Salmon!! I ran down to the restaurant from SVMH and grabbed my bag and paid for my meal I even tipped better than usual because it was ready fast. I stupidly didn't look in the tied off bag I was in a hurry. I get back the hospital to sit down and eat and..wait for it... it's TUNA!! I was upset but I politely called the restaurant and they told me that the clerk had double verified that I ordered "Tuna" I said well I should have checked my bad while I was there because I know I ordered Salmon and said it more than 3 times. I NEVER order tuna. She said well it wouldn't have mattered because you ordered Tuna so we wouldn't have given you a free Sashimi anyway. I told them I just spent $42 bucks for 9 pieces of tuna salad and cucumber salad on the side. I didn't even get my soup and I'm not asking for free food just what I ordered. Bottom line I won't be back they said next time remind them what happened they'll ad some soup or an extra salad. This was not a good experience especially since I don't normally treat myself to such an expensive lunch. Too bad Kokoro I have brought you tons of business over the years between friends, family gatherings etc.. I won't be back! FYI I didn't order online because I wanted double salad no rice and they option wasn't there online.

Therefore, of course, I had to try it. ***DO NOT USE APPLE MAPS. USE GOOGLE MAPS!! Using Apple Maps resulted in me circling the area TWICE until I used Google Maps.*** FOOD: omg their meals are so reasonably priced especially their omakase. I don't think I've ever met a $30 omakase. The sushi rice was nicely blended. Strange how there wasn't wasabi instantly included in the nigiri. Fake wasabi provided on the side. Yellow ginger. Nice cuts of fish. Tonkatsu very dry. Completely disliked how the sauce was automatically included on top... I wished it was given on the side. Wished there was a lemon slice provided as well. Miso soup was not good at all. Salad dressing was very appetizing. SERVICE: Simple and straightforward. No trouble given. VIBEZ: Typical modern Japanese decor with the added touch of figures. Casual. Great for large groups. Located in downtown Salinas. Parking scattered but free 90 minutes parking (8am to 4pm). Would I come back? Yes! I'm excited to try their other offerings, particularly their rolls.

I do think that the portions are very generous. Definitely enough for 2 people to share. Customer service was not good. The young girl at the register with the horribly drawn on eyeliner rolled her eyes (probably frustrated with me since I didn't know exactly what was what from the menu.) She looked very unhappy to be honest. I will complement the cooks for their quickness. My food was ready in minutes. I may come back. BUT hopefully a different experience and better taste next time.

Sarku had the longest line of customers, which was honestly what gave me the vote of confidence to try it, but once I started eating, I realized that must have been because it was located in a prime location of the food court! For example, the salad was pulled straight out of a newly-opened plastic bag. It was some kind of spring mix. There was no washing, no tossing, and no dressing. It was just a handful of dry leaves placed on my paper tray. That wouldn't have been too terrible if everything else had flavor, but alas, that wasn't the case. We had to go back to the counter in search for packets of sauce...any sauce. The "teriyaki chicken" was "just chicken". There was minimal teriyaki flavor and pretty dry. The rice was cooked well though, so that was good. The dumplings were crispy and dry. In any case, my daughter and I were hungry and still ate most of it. Our favorite items were drinks from a juice cart down the hall though. Sorry, Sarku!
