Half eaten Japanese nachos, $13.95.
Thomas S.

Our party of five dropped in for dinner. Our three dinner partners went with Japanese nachos and four sushi rolls to share. The Mrs and I ordered the Bento boxes. She got the pork katsu and I had tempura chicken. The Bento boxes came with veggie fried rice, miso soup, salad, dumplings, and tempura veggies. The Janpanese nachos and sushi rolls were freshly made and were plentiful. Mrs and I tried all the rolls and nachos. Everything tasted fresh and yummy. Our dinner partners ate all of the rolls. Our Bento boxes were ok. The pork katsu was over fried. The chicken tempura was moist. However the tempura batter was off, too heavy. The batter was not light and airy. The fried rice and dumplings were really good. Salad was fresh. The luke warm Miso soup tasted good. Mrs and I said we should've ordered the sushi instead. We will definitely skip the Bento boxes and go with the sushi rolls next time. Table service was very attentive and friendly.

If I were you, I would seriously reconsider dining here. Although the restaurant's exterior may look inviting, as a former employee, I can assure you the standards behind the scenes fall short. The kitchen has recurring issues with pests near the cooking area, and food handling practices are concerning. For instance, the house salad is sometimes drained directly over a floor drain, allowing ingredients to come into contact with the floor. Employees are frequently required to handle food without gloves, using bare hands on items that will be served to customers. Vegetables like tomatoes, which should appear fresh, are left exposed in the refrigerator for days before being served, and the outside of cucumbers often bears visible fingerprints. Additionally, if food is dropped on the kitchen floor, it's often placed back onto serving plates without being discarded. If the staff wouldn't eat the food themselves, they certainly shouldn't be serving it to guests. As the picture below: The bucket containing water and salad was placed next to a floor drain, where the employee drained the house salad. During this process, some lettuce fell onto the kitchen floor and was subsequently placed back into the basket without being discarded.

First of all, the food is sooooo good. My personal favorite is the Black Forest Roll. The service is good too, the workers are always nice. Lastly, the ambiance is great, the booths feel private and it's never too bright in there.

I sat at the bar and had a great evening. Eel Roll and a martini were perfect pairs. I've never been here before, but I am a sushi lover and the selection was great. It wasn't crowded, so no wait.. perfect evening. Will be back!!!

Our favorite sushi place of all time. We've tried sushi in many cities and haven't found a place we like better. The sushi chefs are attentive and give us the BEST service. The restaurant is clean and comfortable.

Ordered sushi for delivery, my usual sushi place is take out and I wasn't driving anywhere today. Anyways, ordered from here and I was pleasantly surprised. The combo rice was amazing, so much texture with the different vegetables and great taste. I'm not a huge fan of onion so could have had a little less in my opinion but overall great. Got some calamari, delivery made then a little soggy so into the air fryer they went and they were snagged up fast. I got two rolls and they were good, not enough snow crab in my opinion as at the end of the roll on the right there was just tuna and no snow crab. Overall great experience.

Decent restaurant with mediocre food. I ordered calamari and asked for the ahi tuna tower with salmon instead of tuna. The calamari was good - a little smaller in size in comparison to other restaurant sizes. The sushi tower was great, but the size was also on the smaller end. I'm a small woman, so it definitely wouldn't be enough for most grown adults. Additionally, all the carbonated beverages are flat.

Atmosphere was an upscale casual feel to it. They have a sushi bar where you can sit or tables…read more They have their own omakase and tasting menu. The service was wonderful and everything came out quickly. I tried the oysters which were my least favorite out of everything I tried. The onions take away the flavor of the oysters. Then I tried the unagi sushi and that one was okay it tasted like some other sushi rolls I've had. It was good it just didn't stand out. Then I tried the brown sugar scallops which the scallops are a big size and in like a thick soup like cream. It reminded me of clam chowder. I don't know if I would order it again but it is worth a try. I tried the foie gras and this was torched and I loved the texture where it melted in my mouth. However, the flavors were a bit weird I guess they're going for a fruity flavor but it just doesn't work together especially the dried strawberry on top. I tried the tomato kanapaccio and that one was good for a vegetable. I thought that blended well with all of the flavors. Then my favorite was the hamachi kosho it's spicy from the Serrano peppers but that kick is just what I needed in a hamachi. My next favorite was the miso cod. The miso cod had some bones in it but the fish was so soft and practically fell off the bone. The Brussel sprouts were good as well. It didn't stand out but it just tasted like other places nothing special. I also tried the sashimi belly flight, bluefin flight, and salmon flight. You can get these in nigiri with but I believe you get fewer slices(3 or 2) The belly flight was my favorite. It had 3 different fishes and my favorite on that spread was the o toro. The quality of the fish were tasty it didn't really have any flavors on it so do not expect a flavored fish this is just sashimi.

The weather will do whatever it will, but the menu remains seasonal with old favorites like the diced shrimp tempura (an absolute must), and new favorites. The fact that I could've been eating the broccoli katsu this entire time is absurd, and that white chili aioli can and should go on everything, especially the shrimp tempura. Quality remains consistent across the board and freshness was tasted at first bite of every dish. Service was great! Water was refilled without having to glance around, and though I couldn't get a midori sour today, my modified torched Paloma had the exact level of sweetness I wanted. As obvious as the casual polish present is, Tobiuo is such an approachable, welcoming establishment. Staff is so friendly and accommodating, allergies are even asked upfront so the meal can be appropriately modified, and the 2 - 5 pm happy hour menu is nothing to scoff at.

I will tell you, however, that by the end of the meal, I was not just surprised by how absolutely wonderful this restaurant was, but I was highly impressed by how wonderful the sushi was how absolutely on point the service was and frankly as you walk in, you will be impressed by the ambience. Let's just talk about the sushi for a minute. The portions are extremely generous and all of it is wonderfully fresh and a great pleasure. I believe I had more than half of the sushi menu on an " all you can eat" Offer, which is, given the quality of sushi, the best deal that I have had in the city of Houston. The waitress was absolutely wonderful, extremely service oriented, and just a pleasure to deal with making recommendations and giving insights since she is a sushi eater herself. I would not recommend the old-fashion bourbon as I suspect everything is done by specific formula and I varied their formula. Next time I go, I will follow their formula and see whether it's a different result. But what a pleasant service experience. The ambience is lovely. it's very large and because I suspect it is relatively knew it was by no means fall although frankly, we went at an odd hour about 4 PM on a Sunday afternoon and so that might explain the lack of patrons. I will say, however, it is so large that there may have been as many as 50 people there but because it is so large, it is difficult to gauge based on much more restricted spaces that I have been in while eating sushi. This is truly not a place to be missed. There is not any exotic sushi, but anything that is on the menu is really quite good, the service is absolutely wonderful and the cost is incredibly good. I would highly recommend it.

What really stands out is how fresh…read moreeverything tastes -- the rolls are always made to order, and you can tell they use quality fish and ingredients. A must for us is the Toro Tartare with the Japanese milk bread. The bread completely elevates the dish. My husband and I also love ordering the Bluefin Flight, and the little hand roll that comes with it is always such a nice bonus. The Black Widow Roll is another favorite -- it always comes out warm with lightly fried soft shell crab, cream cheese, snow crab, eel, and avocado on top. The textures and flavors are so good together. Our girls love the simpler rolls that are packed with fish. Some family favorites are the Crunchy Dynamite Roll, Lady Gaga Roll, and the Tokyo Giant Roll -- all super fresh and flavorful. We do ask for the sauce on the side. We've also done hibachi here a couple of times, and it's always a great experience. The hibachi side is kept separate from the sushi restaurant, which makes it feel like two experiences in one. The chefs are engaging and entertaining, and honestly, who doesn't love buttery fried rice cooked right in front of you? Definitely one of our go-to restaurants in the neighborhood!

We were bummed when we were told this because it didn't say it didn't mention this anywhere on their website or in the restaurant. It felt like we were being discriminated... A family of 3 walked in and also wanted the hibachi lunch. We explained what the hostess stated to us and asked could we merge parties to become a party of 6. Thankfully, they were fine with us doing so! They sat us around 11:55am and we weren't served soup/salad until about 12:25pm. The hibachi then came out at 12:30pm exactly. The staff moved extremely slow. Our waitress wasn't very attentive. She didn't want to show us the sushi menu she said it wasn't available.... The actual hibachi meal was good. I got the chicken hibachi. It came with mushroom soup and miso salad for starters and then chicken, vegetables, noodles, and rice. One lady did have an onion allergy and the hibachi chef cross contaminated a few times. His cooking utensils touched the onions for the volcano part of the hibachi show and then proceeded to touch the rest of the food with the same utensils.... - So make sure to show up as a party of 4 if you want the hibachi lunch. - Don't come if you're in a rush, thankfully we didn't have plans that day. - If you have an allergy, just know there's cross contamination.

The drinks were fantastic. The strawberry matcha and cloud lavender matcha were perfectly balanced, not overly sweet, and you could still truly taste the matcha instead of just sugar. For the food, the ebi and chicken katsu sandos were incredible. Both came out hot, crispy, and packed with flavor, while the bread was unbelievably soft and fluffy. The egg sandos were also excellent, and I loved the addition of the soft-boiled eggs because it added both great texture and presentation. The biggest surprise for me was the strawberry cream sando. That thing was AMAZING. The bread was slightly sweet and different from the hot sandos, which made it pair perfectly with the cream and strawberries. Honestly, everything was so good that we completely inhaled the food before even thinking about taking photos. Definitely one of the best sando spots I've tried, and I'll absolutely be back.

Plus triangle-cut sandwiches taste better lol. The sliced Chicken Katsu pieces were thick, juicy, and super crispy. Amazing bread too, light and spongy, with the crusts cut off. Nice additions inside - the savory sauce had just a hint of spice and the shredded cabbage was crunchy and fresh. Mango Cream Sando - the cream inside was light and airy, with subtle sweetness. Paired well with the sweet and fresh mango. Great dessert sandwich to finish off the meal. For drinks, they have a large assortment of coffee, tea, matcha, soda refresher, slush, and more. We got the Ube Cream Coffee, which was one of their popular drinks (had a star next to it on the menu). The coffee itself was super rich, like classic Vietnamese coffee. Interesting twist with the Ube Cream on top. Fluffy and cloud-like with nice Ube flavor. I'm glad they gave a lot (1/3 of cup), since it was yummy and made the drink more creamy. Love the book wall, it goes up to the ceiling with floating books too. The interior gives such cozy vibes, especially with the dark wood tables and shelves. Fast service - no wait to place my order and all my food was ready after checking out the decor. They have a small sando menu but they have mastered them well, so it's easy to pick from the short list. Lovely to grab a sandwich and coffee here to relax!
