First the good. This place is absolutely beautiful on the inside, very new and very clean. The restrooms are brand new and very clean as well. Now the mediocre. Soup that comes with the meal was served lukewarm. The place smells, actually reeks, of fresh varnish. Hopefully they will get rid of that with time, and I can appreciate the fact that it's new construction. Nonetheless, the smell gets to you. Now the bad. Hibachi steak was luke warm and some pieces were fatty and tough. Vegetables were not all cooked the same, some were nearly raw while others were tender with good sere. I was really wanting this place to be awesome and possibly replace the one that shut down (which was awesome) down the road. I ordered food for pick up over the phone and the person taking the order did not seem friendly. When I went in to pick up my order, yet again, the cashier was not friendly, and did not even smile. With reading the reviews, I was hopeful the food would be decent, but I was wrong. We ordered two teriyaki chicken one ten don and an order of sushi. We will never dine at Sushi Cafe ever again. Our practice placed an order over $150. One of the orders was incorrect and the other we didn't receive. When we went back the lady Aimee argued with my staff so much that she had to call me to intervene. After my staff returned for the second time she was in tears beacuse of the service she received and the hard time she was given. Not only was the service in appropriate and they won't let you get a word in and they charged us for the order that they messed up. May '19: We visited a year ago, and I wasn't impressed but also figured we'd try it again eventually. After our second visit, I can confidently say "Never Again!" The theme of this restaurant is FROZEN. Frozen rice, frozen meat, frozen veggies. The quality of all items was poor. There was absolutely nothing fried about the fried rice. There was no flavor and, in review of my previous visit, last time the veggies within the rice were still partially frozen. I ordered the Steak Hibachi and I cannot believe a restaurant would pass this off as Hibachi. My steak was so tough, the fork could barely pierce it. I had ordered Med. Rare, emphasizing the Rare, yet it came out Medium to Med. Well. My husband informed the server the steak was tough and overcooked and suggested that maybe it accidentally got cooked too long, to which she told us not it was not overcooked. Ummm...yes. Yes, it is. I didn't eat it - I couldn't eat it. I could barely chew the meat and the entire dish lacked flavor. The vegetables are definitely not fresh and prepared in house. Fresh vegetables would have different cuts and characteristics, with an expected slight crunch to them. We ordered the Dynamite Roll, no salmon sub tuna. I found it quite difficult to choose a sushi roll, and not because of exciting options. There were very few raw rolls and all the others didn't seem appealing to me. The fast-food mall hibachi is better than this place. I can appreciate restaurants such a Phillip's Sushi even more so; their meat is fresh, vegetables cut in house, actual fried rice, and all made in the back kitchen. Don't waste your time or money, or taste buds!, here. April '18: I came here full of hope and left feeling... apathetic. I don't know what to think! Thus 3 Stars - I'll meet in the middle. The inside is mostly tables with about 4 booths. The booths give the illusion that they seat 4 people, but you have to be tiny people in order to fit. I realize I'm now 7 months pregnant (so we had to push the table out so my belly would fit), but we aren't obesely wide. My husband and I sitting next to one another was a tight fit! It was quiet and somewhat dark inside. I saw plenty of beer and wine; it does not appear that they have a liquor license. There is a sushi bar where they create the sushi, yet no seating is offered there. One thing drove me crazy: the same song played over and over and over. Literally, the same song. Being a few days later I cannot remember what it was, other than it plays on WEJZ, and it was a voiceless and altered musical version of the original. I think it was by Sting or The Police....but once my mind focused on it, oh my gosh it couldn't tune it out! We came for lunch, since Hibachi prices are significantly cheaper, and perhaps one day we'll try sushi from here (though we love Asian House). My daughter got the Chicken Hibachi, I got the Steak & Shrimp Hibachi, and my husband got the Teriyaki Bento Box. The Clear Soup was quite tasty and the salad (ginger dressing) was large, yet swimming in a small pool of water. The ginger dressing was not my favorite. Their shrimp sauce (or yum yum sauce as some people call it) was good - not too watery and not too bland. The shrimp were quite plump and the beef had the distinct taste that it was cooked in butter - not that that's a bad thing! The shrimp did still have their tails on them so beware before you put any in your mouth! As for the vegetables, there were mushrooms, zucchini, onions, 1 piece of green pepper (just 1 piece on both of our plates; which I'm fine with because I don't eat them), and carrots. Overall I enjoyed the vegetables however the carrots tasted boiled (think soft, mushy) and then as if they were thrown onto the grill last minute. I don't care for mushy carrots so onto my daughter's plate they went - and I took her zucchini. I took one bite of her chicken and it seemed okay - but there wasn't much flavor to it. As for the fried rice, the peas in it were still frozen, it lacked flavor, and truly it seemed as though it came pre-packaged and frozen and then microwaved prior to serving. My husband didn't care for his Teriyaki Chicken. He said the quality of chicken wasn't great (he was expecting a breast like he's had at other places) and the sauce wasn't think; it was watery. It was swimming in it's little Bento Box compartment. It came with fried gyoza as well. All fried gyoza I've ever had has ever been pan fried - these however, were fried-fried. Like deep fried in oil. I was not a fan. The portions were small. While I realize this is lunch time and it's cheaper, whenever we go to Phillip's Sushi (which also cooks hibachi in the back kitchen and never in front of you), the portions are absolutely massive. There's plenty of veggies, rice, and protein and we always have leftovers. Like I said, we may try them for sushi but I doubt I'll be going back for Hibachi on a regular basis. Which makes my taste buds sad but my bank account happy! read more

This place has great food! However their low rating is because the staff is always unfriendly and the service is always rushed as though you are inconveniencing them being there. I visited the Sushi Cafe because it was recommended twice by the staff at one of favorite Asian restaurants on Fleming Island (btw, the recommending restaurant no longer serves sushi since moving into a new place). The restaurant is extremely clean and quiet. I have been a couple of times and it has only had a few other patrons. I really enjoyed the clear soup. It was filled with lots of mushrooms and crunchies. The sushi is decent with reasonable prices. The standards like the California roll and Crazy roll are some of the better tasting rolls in the area. Unfortunately, the two times I have come, I have been by myself, so getting a larger plate has not been something I have needed. It is definitely worth trying. read more

This place is very clean and nice. I love these kinds of sushi cafes. Quiet. Dark and just relaxing. The sushi is really good and fresh. Pretty much like any good sushi joint. It's not the best but it's still very very very good so come try it out ! In my opinion it'll last but things in Fleming tend to have an expiration date so i wish it the best. Then they bring out this on the house ice cream which was super good ! The service was great and this seems like a winner ! The Pad Thai did not resemble any pad Thai I have ever had either by appearance or taste. The sushi was just okay. I should have known that if a restaurant is trying to serve Korean, Thai, and Japanese they probably won't do any of them well. I was craving sushi and braved going to a sushi restaurant by myself with my two kids. The restaurant is clean but small. Waitress sat us in the middle. Every booth was occupied by a couple which made me think that this probably isn't the restaurant to bring your kids (so don't do what I did lol). Ordered the grilled chicken and veggies for the kids; there was an up charge to switch rice to noodles (my oldest doesn't like rice). It was delicious... I kept picking at their plates and I had my own food lol. My only complaint is that it's expensive for a kids plate. I ordered the tempura shrimp appetizer (really good...comes with tempura veggies too) and the love roll (I think that was the name of it). The roll was good but didn't realize it had mayo on it so it's quite heavy. We got free cake in the end which was nice but not good (free is free lol...my 5 year old ate it)...we still appreciated it! My total bill was $55 for 2 kid plates, 1 appetizer and 1 roll (we drank water). Overall very good for a hole in the wall sushi place! Will go again sans kids and try more rolls. Had dinner here yesterday prior to catching a movie. Food was mediocre. I should have known not to expect much when I saw three different types of Asian cuisine on the menu. Most places, unless they are Asian fusion, cannot prefect any dishes when they have to master so many recipes! Korean soup was spicy as promised but so greasy! Unagi don was good but had way too much rice compare to the eel, and could have used more sauce. Ambiance was nice though: dim lights, dark tables, and booth seating. Staff was friendly enough considering that we came in 40 minutes before closing. So overall the food was okay but nothing special, definitely not a place to go if you are looking for authentic good food. read more

Our usual place for sushi was closed for lunch, so we took a chance and stopped by for a to go order. First of all, the inside was neat, clean and had nicer atmosphere feel. I ordered their 3 roll lunch and a 2 roll lunch. I was very pleased with the roll choices and the fact I got a salad AND soup. Got the veggie roll, spicy tuna, spicy salmon, seaweed roll and crab salad roll. Excellent flavor in everything we had. Great portion size and the chef labeled each roll clearly. The clear soup had a rich flavor and the ginger dressing was bold and oniony but in a good way. Would definitely go back again. Got my food quickly and it $20 for 2 people. I decided to try this restaurant because of the bento boxes listed in the menu online. I'm so glad I did! The food was amazing. The bento box I tried came with soup, ginger salad, shrimp/veggie tempura, shrimp teriyaki, fried rice and dumplings. My granddaughter tried two rolls and ate every grain of rice.
