There was open seating with both booths and regular tables. The menu offers a wide selection of choices. We opted for the lunch sushi combo A: which came with a choice of miso or mushroom soup, house salad with a ginger dressing and your choice 2 sushi rolls from their special lunch list. We loved the mushroom soup and salad! The sushi we tried were the Spicy Tuna, Jalapeño Yellow Tail, Salmon Sushi and a California Roll. The Jalepeno Yellow Tail would not be my choice to order again, the other sushi was delicious. The best part of our experience and earning 5 stars for the restaurant, was our server. She was fantastic! Great service!!!

I'd never visited before but had heard such good things and am so glad it lived up to the hype. I'm so excited we liked it and am sure we will be back. Everything came out steaming hot with super generous portions. The server was highly attentive and very knowledgeable about all of our questions. I was starving and forgot to grab her name. Regardless it was a wonderful visit and I'd highly recommend recommend. The restaurant is very light and definitely has a cafe vibe. It's located in a strip mall, and doesn't really give off "high end" vibes anywhere except they'll droolworthy food.

Such a cool spot!…read more We visited Toba on a recent Saturday afternoon and were pleasantly surprised by this cute little spot! The menu is lengthy with so many options to choose from! We were a little overwhelmed by the choices at first, but we quickly decided to try several different things to get a better idea of the flavors and what we might like best! We started with a house salad, which was so delicious! Fresh, yummy ingredients with a truly delightful ginger dressing! Hugh flavor! Next we ordered the Gyoza - this dish was AMAZING! The dumplings were perfectly cooked and served with a delicious traditional dipping sauce. Also included was a garnish slaw with a spicy mayo dressing - this complimented the dish SO well. This dish was honestly our favorite part of our entire visit and we highly recommend!! Of course we had to try a sushi burrito which is possibly their most unique offering! I've never heard of sushi in a burrito form before Toba, what a great idea!! It's basically a giant, handheld, wrapped up piece of sushi! We chose the Toba Burrito with steamed shrimp, shrimp tempura, spicy crab salad, avocado, tempura flakes, eel sauce, and spicy mayo. This was a delicious combination! Because it's in a burrito the ingredients are thicker compared to sushi, and you can taste each addition better, but my husband and I both agreed that while this was a very fun item to try, we prefer the regular sushi rolls to the burrito. Smaller bites of each combo of flavors is our preference. :) We also got a K-zoo sushi roll which was delicious but not as chilled as I expected it to be. These pieces were large, (bigger than a one bite piece of sushi) but packed with quality, fresh ingredients with really great flavors!! My husband and I both ordered a cup of tea, both were delicious and perfect for a cloudy, rainy day!! There are several options to choose from, we asked our waiter for further explanation and recommendations. :) There are so many more options to try at Toba - we will definitely be back to try more things, the ramen for one! :) The service at Toba was excellent! Our server was very attentive and helpful! Our order arrived very quickly and in perfect stages since we tried so many different things! The atmosphere is modern and seating is consolidated to a fairly small area. We were seated in the cutest front booth, right in the window. Best seat in the house, I'd say! Kalamazoo is beaming with great foodie spots! Toba is a great addition to the downtown scene!! :)

The chef didn't get enough steak, or gave mine to everyone around me. My husband got a filet that got all mixed up with the sirloins. Seemed like all CHEWYS in his sirloin, supposedly a filet. Chef had to go back and grab 1 steak and cook it while everyone was eating. Everyone was done eating, while I was waiting for my steak to be cooked alone JUST having dental work on his front teeth. Im scarred for LIFE from hibachi!!!! When he told me what happened to him at work today just now, i had to write a review. I've never had this happen anywhere, I feel bad writing this bc I used to enjoy hibachi EVERYWHERE, I'm stunned. I'm feeling lucky he didn't swallow it and choke!

We stopped for lunch slightly after the lunch rush and still found a crowded restaurant. We were seated quickly and despite being pretty busy, our server was great and the kitchen was as well because our wait for food once ordered was minimal. We ordered Gyoza, Bao, Spicy tuna rolls and Big Shrimp Tempura rolls. 1. Gyoza-fantastic. Pan fried just enough to bring out the flavor of the ingredients and wrapper. Most places overcook gyoza and while still decent, are not nearly as good as these were. 2. Bao. Once I tried these out of town I was hooked. Have-not seen them one any menu until I came here. We ordered pork and it was perfect. 3. Spicy Tuna Rolls-slight disappointment. The tuna is ground up and mixed with the spices to make it spicy. I would not order this again. After talking to your server, she said I could oder traditional tuna rolls and have the spices applied externally rather than mixed up in a ground up fashion. Perhaps I will order this way next time but there is so many other dishes that need to be tried. 4. Big Shrimp Tempura. Wonderful. Great flavors I looked at other tables and Bento Boxes, ramen dishes and hibachi items looked really, really good and need to be explored as well. I'm predicting we will become regulars here.
