The service is usually slow but the the food is solid. I am giving this place a 5 star to balance out some of other unfair reviews. I've been here a few times now. The food has always been great. My favorites are the nigiri combos, the sunrise (caterpillar) roll, the steamed mushrooms, and the spicy salmon special maki. I usually have to get up to ask for a refill or for the check. But hey, there is nothing better than ending a stressful day with Mountain Views, sushi, and whimsical Taos-y art installations.

Service was horrible. Didn't get our food for over an hour and only ordered 3 rolls. Server was very rude. Food was not good at all.

The second side we ordered was asparagus and it was disappointing. There wasn't much of it and it was woody. The kitchen made a mistake in our order and added haricots vert (green beans) and it was a fortunate mistake for us. There wasn't much a generous serving and they were properly prepared. We decided to splurge and ordered the chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream for dessert. No lava but a delicious flavor and the raspberry (?) sauce surrounding it gave a nice extra flavor. There is a nice patio area, but opted to sit by a window indoors since rain was threatening.

Good chefs should know how to season meat. Service: We felt rushed. We were not finished with our appetizer when entrees arrived. Mine sat waiting for a while set aside. It was cold when I got to it. Waitress did not catch on to that. Customer beware to ask for desired doneness on your entree. Waitress did not know to ask. This place is à la carte. Main entrees on the high price side for quantity and quality of what you get. Being foodies perhaps we were expecting a better quality experience. That's always a drawback to dining out at expensive restaurants for the first time.

That being said, it's great option if you want a break from New Mexican / Mexican food while in Santa Fe. We got: - chutoro sashimi - This wasn't worth it, we much preferred the hamachi - hamachi sashimi - Multiple people commented this was their favorite dish of the night - miso eggplant - Another favorite for many, although I found it too saucy for me - daikon salad - Light and vinegary, one of my friends loved this dish - yuba pappardelle - Really interesting - it worked better than I expected although I'm not a big fan of those flavors (I'd rather have Asian flavors with my yuba). The yuba itself was excellent in texture. - tako plate - Well executed and not too fishy - black sesame noodles - Solid, I liked that this came with a bunch of vegetables (burdock, carrot). - mango panna cotta - fine, but not my favorite panna cotta texture (more on the yogurty side of texture) My friends also loved the namazake.

When booking, I called twice and was assured by two separate hosts that as long as we knew our orders upon arrival, we would have plenty of time. However, the experience was disappointing from the start. Upon arrival, the manager treated us as if we were walk-ins without a reservation and completely dismissed the information we were given over the phone stating "they'd handle the host who told us it'd be fine". Once seated, as previous calls indicated we should do, we placed our order immediately and clarified that three of us needed to leave by 12:40 PM for our appointments. By 12:45 PM, everyone had finished eating except for two people- our guest of honor and a pregnant party member- whose food still hadn't arrived despite asking if it'd be arriving soon (around 1235). When we inquired (around 1250) the server admitted they had accidentally given their dish (steak bimbibap) to another table and would have to remake it. By 1:20 PM, after the rest of our party had already left for the spa, the missing meal still hadn't arrived except for one person who was waiting to receive it. When staff finally brought out the meal- they placed it on the table (empty of people) and someone who was clearing the table accidentally threw dirty napkins directly onto the plate. They offered to remake it once more to go and removed that single dish from our bill. but the replacement steak bibimbap was extremely bland and the steak mostly fat. Throughout this entire experience, no one offered an apology; instead, the staff made us feel like we were at fault despite our planning and communication. While the spa management was kind enough to offer us a discount after hearing what happened, I cannot recommend this restaurant given the service, lack of accountability, and food quality.

The service is always prompt and friendly. I like their California rolls. As I long time lover of New Mexico cuisine I especially like their Santa Fe roll. It is fantastic how well fresh green chili goes with traditional Japanese flavors. It is my favorite place to eat in Los Alamos.

No sign that indicated that the hours that day were wrong. Nothing online. They even removed their Google listing. When we stopped in at 5:10pm, we walked in and there was no one at the counter. The waitress came by, ignored us, then went to bring food to another table. We awkwardly stood there, waiting for her to notice us (which she clearly did, because we stood right smack dab in the middle of the room while all the customers -- a grand amount of five, small tables -- stared at us and awkwardly acknowledged our presence with a "I don't know what's going on here either" look). Then, when we called for her, she gave us the angriest look and said, "you have to be here exactly at 5 or call at 4PM for take-out". Fine, message received. Today, we called at 4pm exactly for take-out. No one picked up. We called again. Then again. No one picked up, again. Never got a chance to try their sushi. Each time, we headed to Origami. I mean, I've heard that Cafe Sushi has "fresher" sushi, but is there any point if we haven't tried it at least once? I hate giving one star reviews to local businesses, but this is incredibly frustrating. We've given this place a good amount of chances, followed everything they said, both online and in person, and still, nothing. This is no way to run a business.
