Dr. Lashgari Prather was one of the four OB's we saw during my wife's pregnancy. She was, in fact the OB that my wife saw the most, and came to both respect and like her. In our appointments she was friendly and respectful of our time. She answered all of the questions my wife had and was sympathetic and willing to help accommodate reasonable requests my wife had. My wife wanted her to perform the delivery, and while Dr. Prather was our last OB appointment before our daughter was born, she wasn't on call the night it happened. She was nice enough to stop by and see us and the baby after her shift the next day. Very knowledgeable and professional medical doc. As a patient (or husband of) she's the sort of professional that I would want working with my family. read more

I've been Dr. Lashgari-Prather's gynecology patient for over 12 years. The practice offers care to insured and uninsured patients, just work it out with billing in advance, like with any other practice. I've always been able to bring up my concerns, get the labs that I needed, and work through any concerns. I feel well taken care of at NOVA Physicians to Women and will only see Dr. Lashgari-Prather because of her kind and efficient bedside manner. She doesn't request excessive labs or procedures, but she does request the standard ones and will happily take care of labs and procedures that the patient may want. The front desk is efficient, polite, and thorough, as is the check out desk. Parking costs $7 as of 4/2023, for the whole day. There is no validation and you can pay at the pay stations with your debit or credit card. The building that NOVA Physicians to Women is located in is attached to Virginia Hospital Center and is a Mayo Clinic affiliate. Many practices attached to hospitals require invalidated paid parking and ai don't go there that often, so it's not a huge deal to me. She's never dismissed me or been condescending of me making an informed decision based on medical research or pier reviewed papers, which I appreciate. Many doctors are bothered by informed patients, so this approach is refreshing. I originally came to Dr. Lashgari-Prather whe she served as the on call doctor for a local Midwife. The prior Midwife provider was great, but her front office was rude and horrible, so I decided to become Dr. LP's patient (even though she urged me to speak with the other practice and give them another chance). When I would not do that, she was kind enough to take me on instead of letting me be without a provider. I've never regretted my decision to be her patient even though I had not received care from a Ob Gyn in 10 years (from when I came to her practice). Appointments with her are quick, but that works for me. I still get the care I need and am happy and at ease being her patient. read more

Rude, dismissive and rushed everything. Never in my life of seeing doctors have I met one who finished my sentences for me. I am a woman coming to another woman with a concern about my cervical health, and you want to rush me and condescend your way through my appointment? Big no from me. I will continue using this practice, just not Dr. Prather. read more

This dynamic duo is phenomenal. I highly recommend their practical they are transparent, honest and professional. The wait times were appropriate, they were always available. Clean office with friendly staff. They delivered two sons vaginally after a horrible c-section experience with another dr. They were open about the risks and understanding of my preference. I highly recommend this practice! read more

Dr L is horrible. She is unprofessional and dismissive. When I had my son, she spoiled the surprise gender during a visit....ok, I guess that can happen and not the end of the world. However, when I was admitted for pre-e and put on magnesium sulfate I felt horrible. Think wasted and incredibly hung over at the same time. Obviously it was necessary for me and baby. However, her cervix exam was painful and she did not care. I had no problem with Dr E. When I complained in front of a nurse she actually told Dr L. Needless to say my future exams were even more painful. Just so incredibly unprofessional verging on malpractice. read more

We use Dr. Lashgari as our Ob. We have no problems scheduling appointments. Her staff is wondeful, organized and always friendly. We are always in and out in good time with minimal waiting. We came to this doctor after trying others and are so happy we did. I find the manner and style of medicine practiced by Dr Lashgari to be communicative and concise. My wife and I enjoy having developed a strong patient-doctor relationship where our questions are answered clearly, thoughtfully and informatively. We highly recommend entrusting your birthing care to Dr. Lashgari and Dr. Elliott. read more

Love her! She delivered my last 2 babies! Always on-time / quick appointments! Handled my last complicated delivery with ease. Always very personable. Love the whole practice! read more

She was my OB/GYN for both pregnancies and had been recommended to me by another specialist. Dr. Prather might be curt, but she is top notch. I had one of those 'complicated' (life-threatening) deliveries. She identified potential issues up front and had contingencies lined up so that when things went south in the delivery room, the right people were there and I live to tell the story. She doesn't mess around, and I respect that. read more

I went to Dr. Lashgari for a gyno appointment (Not OB), and I absolutely agree with the other reviewers who thought she was rushed and dismissive. She seemed as though she couldn't care less about my concerns and rushed through my questions as though they were a burden and I was making a big deal out of nothing (my personal issue is endometriosis, and I've had an ovary removed because of it, so it really isn't an insignificant concern). I felt insignificant and quite frankly, disrespected. That was my last appointment there. read more

Won't be going back. Tried out Dr. L-P based on yelp reviews and have to agree with the negative ones - cold, quick, wouldn't examine me despite my concerns and blew them off. Didn't feel comfortable with her and she seemed bothered by having to talk to me. I won't be going back and am still on the hurt for a good OB. :( read more

Dr. Prather had terrible bed side manners. She was very dismissive and rude. As a new patient, I was truly shocked at her impersonal behavior. I can tell she is a technical and knowledgeable individual, but her impersonal attitude was not a good fit for me. I highly recommend you consider another doctor if good bedside manners is important to you. read more

Never a fun doctor to go to, but when you go you want to find a good one. Looked online, and she seemed to have amazing ratings. Doctor was very friendly, but very frenetic. Good bedside manner, but the franticness almost gave a nervous air to it. Another downside is that it's in the hospital, so you'll have to pay $4-5 for parking. Will be back. read more

I had heard amazing things about this practice. I switched when I was about 20 weeks pregnant. Pro's: Wait time to see the doctor is minimal. East to get an appointment. Con's: Come prepared with a list of questions. Expect short, vague, and cold answers. Do not expect any suggestions or guidance. If there is any concern, a c-section will be STRONGLY suggested. read more

I've had several OB/GYN's in my life and did not have full trust in (or comfort with) any one of them until I met Dr. Lashgari. I was referred to her through another Doctor in her building and am thankful to have met her and Dr. Elliott. From the standard annual appointments to my long & difficult childbirth (my boy was stubborn!!), she has shown professionalism, patience (I'm a tough patient) and great bedside manner. She is very straight and to-the-point and I appreciate her honesty and brevity. I had a "surprise" pregnancy shortly after my wedding and was concerned with the timing & safety of the baby and she was very helpful in getting me scheduled immediately for an appointment & sonogram to calm me down. The office was so well-run that the numerous appointments throughout the pregnancy were quick, efficient and actually fun! (the surprise quickly turned to wonder, joy and love :) !) When she learned of my due date, she was upfront and informed me that her own wedding date was going to possibly conflict with my due date. Throughout the process I really grew to like & trust Dr. L and decided towards the end of it that I would induce since she would be away for 2 weeks starting on my due date. I may be crazy, but I really wanted her in the room with us and would do it all over! I highly recommend!!! read more

Dr. Prather is an amazing doctor. I could go on about the things I like about the practice (punctuality, cleanliness, responsiveness) but nothing matters as much as the compassion, caring, reassurance and, yes, optimism Dr. Prather projected when I suffered a miscarriage. She managed to shed a comforting light on the most painful experience of my life. I highly recommend seeing her if you are in the Arlington area. read more

Avoid this doctor if you can. Her partner, Dr. Elliot, stated that it was up to me to determine if I wanted to take the glucose drink for gestational diabetes. When I saw Dr. Lashgari the following month (as every pregnant woman has to see both of them), she told me in a very testy manner that she would dismiss me as a patient if I didn't do the test. At my request, I asked for Dr. Elliot, who changed his mind about me taking the test. I asked for an alternative, because the drink made me very sick, having taking it four times from previous pregnancies. She suggested an endocrinologist or my family physician. The appointment took less than 5 minutes, as Dr. Lashgari ended my appointment much earlier than she had in the previous appointments. I contacted my family physician, whose exact words were these: "It's very odd, inappropriate, and disturbing that you were sent to me. It's like asking a pregnant woman to go see a cardiologist." He told me that they should be able to do a diabete test at their office without me taking the drink, as it's a common test that OB-GYN offices have available. He expressed concerns why they couldn't do it for me, and told me that they were testing the buck over there. When I asked him what I should do, he told me that he would do the test but that I should complain to the office manager. At this point, I'm not going to do either, but will switch OB-GYN dr. who is willing to do a diabete test...which I have found several. read more

I found this practice on line and it's only the 3rd OB/GYN I've been too in 40+yrs. I had my daughter in March and son in June of 2012 with Dr Prather. She's a great Dr and handled all of the challenges and the developments of my pregnancies well. (We had some complications and I was AMA.). Although many of my visits were quick visits, she was straightforward and transparent in options and what she would do in my shoes. I liked the nurses too. Sometimes it was busy in there but they're dealing with baby deliveries so that made sense to me. I'm so thankful that she was my doctor to help with my care and our children's' deliveries. If you're reasonable and looking for a good doctor, you can't go wrong w Dr Prather. read more

My wife is very particular as I assume most women are about who their doctor is going to be. Several friends highly recommended this practice to us for our first baby and we absolutely loved seeing Dr. Elliott and Dr. Prather. Unfortunately we had to move to Boston at 7 months pregnant so my wife didn't deliver with them. We actually went to Brigham and Womens Hospital which is of course one of the best in the world. We had a great experience but really considered moving back down temporarily just because of Dr. Prather. She is very professional and informative without being arrogant or overly consumed as many doctors can be. It really shows that she loves what she does. We have since moved back form Boston and after going to the #1 hospital in the world couldn't be happier that our next baby will be born at Virginia Hospital. read more

I have been going to this practice for over 16 years. They delivered all 4 of my children. Dr. Lashgari is wonderful and always takes the time to listen and help me. I do not feel rushed; in fact I appreciate how she is on time and courteous during every visit. read more

Dr. Lashgari is an awesome OB/GYN. She is very direct and honest, so you can really trust her advice: she won't just tell you what you want to hear. For example, my husband and I were very interested in having a natural (medication-free) childbirth, and she was honest about the challenges of that but also very supportive once she understood that we were well informed and prepared. When I went overdue she brought up scheduling an induction, but when I didn't want one we agreed to do a non-stress test to make sure the baby was OK (he was 100% fine!) and not to induce. I went into labor without assistance exactly 2 weeks after my due date...One the day my son was born, Dr. Lashgari stayed late at the hospital to deliver him herself, which meant the world to us. Her partner at the practice, Dr. Elliott, is also excellent - I saw them both while pregnant and they are both top-notch. Another huge plus: their office functions well and I was seen on-time for almost all of my appointments, which is saying a lot when you have to juggle work and other things for so many appointments during pregnancy! I previously went to the nearby Women for Women practice (Drs. Cobbs, Williams, Caskie) and they were always way late, plus I did not like any of them nearly as well as Lashgari and Elliott. read more

Dr. Prather is rude, dismissive, and possibly the worst bedside manner i've ever experienced. My last pregnancy was extremely high risk and was admitted to labor and delivery 5 weeks before my due date b/c of lots of complications. She came to see me and told me she couldn't deliver my baby early "just because you're tired of being pregnant." Excuse me?!? I was UNCONSCIOUS and had passed out - that's why i was in L&D. Unbelievable. I would not recommend her to anyone. read more

I've been going to Dr. Lashgari for 10 years now and she knows me just as well as any other of her patients. I love the fact that she gives it to you straight and doesn't sugar coat anything. She's also very quick and doesn't necessarily try to small talk because she knows YOU are busy too. I hate doctor's that make you sit in the waiting room unnecessarily, talk to you forever while in the room, and then before you know it you've been at the doctor for 2 hours. Every annual I go into, I can easily fit in my schedule before work. 20 mins and I'm in and out. Not only this, but Dr. Lashgari has the memory of an elephant - she never forgets. Literally she brought up a joke I said before surgery almost 5 years ago. I remember it because I was nervous and trying to keep cool, but for a doctor who sees hundreds of patients to remember, it really makes me feel valued as a patient. Couldn't have asked for a better OB/GYN. read more

Prather delivered my son in April. I've also seen her repeatedly for ~4 years throughout both my pregnancies and for general GYN care. She's straightforward, funny, and knowledgeable. If you want a doctor, who knows what she's doing and will tell it to you straight, see Prather. She's terrific. read more

My experience with Dr. Prather was that she was rushed and dismissive. She also made passive weight gain comments which were unprofessional (I've gained about 15lbs at 25 weeks - let's just throw the pregnant girl a bone.) Hoping it was just my experience but I would rather go to the other doctors in the office going forward. read more

I went to Dr. Lashgari for gynecology (no obstetrics) for several years before I moved. I felt that she was a good doctor overall with some flaws. She diagnosed me with a hereditary condition I wasn't aware I had and that a lifetime of gynecologists before her never thought to test me for. So she gets full credit for that. At the same time, hearing the diagnosis was very upsetting for me, and I had read all kinds of material on the web after the initial ultrasound at a lab that made it sound like I would wind up with cancer, diabetes, strokes, heart attacks, infertility, etc.. So when she confirmed what they had told me at the lab, I broke down crying even though I normally never do things like that; I find it humiliating. I told her through my tears that I had read about the condition, and that it sounded like a death sentence. Instead of reassuring me that I would basically be okay, as doctors have done since (most people with my condition live full lives without much of a downside), she got upset with me and said "Stop it! Stop it! Shut up!" I looked at her simply stunned, and she backed off a bit and offered me a tissue. I didn't expect her to hug me or to be my therapist, but I did not expect to be told to shut up either. I'm sure it's hard for doctors to have to deliver these diagnoses and to try not to internalize their patients' emotions, but it's definitely much more difficult for the patient, and I think she could have done better than that. Other than that, I would says she's fairly direct, straightforward, and generally efficient. However, there were some problems with her office staff, although I couldn't say whether it was because she failed to communicate with them, or because they just let things slip. For instance, I told her I was experiencing some abdominal pain I was worried about, and she said she'd set up an appointment or lab test to investigate it, but this never happened, and her office staff would just wave me out the door and tell me I was all done, and I was confused and wasn't sure if I was being blown off on purpose or what was going on. This happened at least twice, and I would just bring it up again the next appointment. Also, they were very spotty about setting up normal 6-month pap smears. They would usually just send you out the door in a hurry, and I expected to get an appointment reminder call or card in the mail when it was time for the next visit like all my other doctors had done. No card ever came, and I would eventually realize that I hadn't had a pap smear in a while, and I would have to call and set one up. It was a little weird; it seemed like the onus was on the patient to push for tests and appointments you knew you were supposed to have, but I certainly didn't have the specifics to be able to communicate some of that stuff to the office staff beyond setting up normal pap smears. I found their office dynamic to be a little confusing. Another thing that happened was she prescribed a birth control pill for me that ended up making my cholesterol/triglycerides go absolutely insane, ie I had levels equivalent to 70-year-old, morbidly obese people, and I am neither obese, nor old. My endocrinologist caught it in a blood test, but there should have been an initial test done to confirm my levels before starting on the pills. The endocrinologist ended up switching me to another medication, which I wish I had been told about in the first place, as I would have chosen that over the birth control pills that put me at risk for having a stroke or heart attack or something. I don't know, I don't like or trust birth control pills, and it always seems that gynos are overeager to prescribe them. Also, the medication I was switched too was much cheaper and less risky. Overall, I think she's a decent doctor - just don't expect too much of a bedside manner and know that you have to push a little and ask questions with her staff. read more

I recently switched Oby doctors for logistic reason and found Dr Prather. I've lived around DC area and had top doctors, I've never experienced a doctor suggesting 'do not even come to ultrasound because you will miscarry'. My husband and I reported this incident and her horrible bed side manners (not to mention she hurts you during pap smear). As a patient you have all rights to investigate your situation. We went to two other doctors, they were cautiously optimistic about our case. She needs to take some human psychology courses and realize finishing medicine school doesn't really make you a doctor if you don't have empathy and respect a patient's right to investigate. read more

I can't imagine anyone giving Dr. Prather a bad review as I've had nothing but outstanding experiences when seeing her. She's funny, friendly and, most importantly, knowledgeable. She's also the only Dr I ever go to that is on time. I highly recommend her. read more

I agree with the others regarding her rude, dismissive comments. She made some extremely inappropriate comments that made me speechless. I did not appreciate the style of practice or really anything she had to say. As a brand new patient, I'm shocked at how unwelcoming and disrespectful she was. She acted as if talking to me was a burden. I will absolutely not be going back. read more

As others have mentioned, the practice can be a bit frenetic, and Dr. Lashgari sometimes seemed really rushed. She is very concise, but if you have questions, she will take the time to answer them. She is extremely decisive and doesn't waste your time with small talk, but I've grown accustomed to her style and appreciate her straightforward approach. Dr. Lashgari will be quick to tell you if your issue is outside of her area of expertise, and her circle of medical colleagues ensures you get referred to some of the best doctors in Arlington. read more

I agree with the other yelpers. I saw Dr. Lashgari when my period lasted 2 months straight and she completely dismissed me after seeing me for 2 minutes. There was no 'care' which is literally the definition of what a doctor is supposed to provide. She was hurried, dismissive and lacked any sort of compassion. This is what is wrong with doctors today. read more

Dr Prather delivered our firstborn a month ago at VHC. My wife had endured a rough pregnancy ( with our baby subject to IUGR) and through her nine months regularly saw all four doctors in the NVPW practice, but it was Dr Prather who was on call the night of our son's delivery. We had hoped to pull off a natural - but induced - delivery, but as the night wore on, things didn't go as planned, but Dr Prather was always there to regularly to assess the situation and whenever we were worried, she always defused the tension we had with her lighthearted conversations and jokes. She was always a picture of optimism and she transferred that to us when we most needed it. After carefully observing my wife, she made a tough call and recommended an emergency C-section. Before we knew it, my wife was wheeled out of her room, to the OR, and Dr Prather expertly got to work, and within minutes had delivered our baby boy, totally healthy. My wife and I were exhausted but relieved ...and we have Dr Prather to thank for her expertise and sure hands ! read more

She and Dr Elliot were recommended by a neighbor after I had issues with my gynecologist's office regarding my pregnancy (huge practice and no ability to choose physicians for your ob and no information unless you called many times.) Having the 2 of them only and their friendly staff was such a good difference. She's very direct and quick but always took the time to go through questions/concerns. This was our first baby and I was 'advanced' - ie over 35 - and she and Dr. Elliot would discuss the risks with us and then go on And she always returned phone calls quickly when I had concerns. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Prather and her practice for 6 years now and after seeing other OB/GYNs before then, I know to be grtateful when I find a great practice. Dr. Prather is thrurough, experienced and most importantly she treats me like an individual. She was absolutely incredible with my first labor and delivery. I was a very nervous first time mom and she always made me comfortable with any questions or concerns I had. During delivery, she came in to check on me before she left for the day and the on call doctor came on for the evening and discovered that I was very close. She quickly changed her shoes and got right to work. She was willing to stay after her day was done and this made me feel so grateful she was my Dr. As I am baking the next bun in the oven I am reminded about how wonderful she, Dr. Elliott, and Dr. Borelli are to their patients. Most importantly this spreads through the staff. I haven't noticed the high turnover you might usually see in a medical office and I think it is because they all seem to be truly happy to be working in this office. Whenever I have any doubts or concerns, they get me in right away and always respect my time. I was having significant pain one day, they got me in and out between my meetings all within 15 minutes to reassure me that everything was okay. Another plus that I don't think potential patients may be aware of is, you deliver right down the hall from their practice at VHC. This means that if you are there during the week you will see the doctor you have been working most closely with. This is incredibly comforting in stressful situations. Each of the doctors in this practice stopped in to check on me during my visit. I cannot thank this office enough for all of the care and support they have shown me throughout the years. Leave 10 extra minutes early to find parking in the garage. read more

Dr. Prather delivered our son and she was fantastic! I was most impressed by a story my wife told me about how Dr. Prather scooped her up and personally escorted her to L & D for tests earlier in the pregnancy when we thought the baby was having issues. Dr. Prather is supremely confident and sincere and she's a hard-nosed pitbull when she needs to be. She takes the care of her patients seriously and she makes what can be the most stressful and chaotic moment of someone's life seem like a breeze. My wife and I couldn't be happier with Dr. Prather and we hope she can deliver our next child down the road. Thanks, Dr. P.! You're the best! read more

I chose this office because it was highly recommended by one of my friends. Unfortunately I didn't have a very good experience with this office. Before I start the negative part let me say the positive points of this practice: - It is very easy to schedule an appointment as long as you have the BCBS PPO insurance. -the staff are friendly and you ca get an emergency check up very fast. now the negatives about Dr.Lashgari ( I explain Dr. Elliott in his own part): Dr. Lashgari is not very friendly. i understand that they see preggos everyday and having a baby is very normal to them, however I would have expected a warmer approach towards a pregnant patient . Every problem I encountered had one answer: " YOU ARE PREGNANT!!" I had experienced very early contractions I didn't know at the time-- How would i know?!! it was my first child!!!) When I explained to Dr.Lashgari what I was going through she said that it will get worst because I'm pregnant. i told her that I feel that I'm really having problems and she just ignored me. They never communicate the results of my test to me. i had to take the sugar test twice and when i asked about my sugar level they just ignored me!!! And the last straw was at my last visit to the office before I had the baby at 38 weeks check up. I was very heavy and I couldn't wait for the baby to arrive. Dr.L examined me and said that I was not dilated at all. At my very disappointment moment, Dr.L asked me if I wanted to have him early and I said " well I don't think It's going to happen soon" and she said: "You never know maybe you have him tomorrow!!!" and then she offered to examine me again. Well much to my surprise I had the baby two days later. And you know what was the trick, She ruptured my membrane without telling me and my water broke the same night and i had the baby two days later!!! I'm just thinking that how many other more things she has done to me that i have no idea of!!! I'm not going back there again.. At least I'd like to have a doctor who I can trust... read more

as a professional standardized patient, my job is to review and rate doctors. i like to think i have high standards, but am still fair and objective. when i went to see her for my personal medical care, dr lashgari was rude, dismissive, and made me cry. i highly recommend going elsewhere, unless the only medical care you will ever need are standard annual well woman exams where you don't ask any questions. read more

I was referred to Dr. Lashgari by my primary care physician for a minor procedure. The nurse walked in and asked me to sign the consent without explaining the procedure and without the doctor present. That night I had terrible abdominal cramping, a typical side effect of this procedure, but Dr. Lashargi hadn't informed of that so I went to the emergency room. I was scheduled for a follow up appointment with her in 2 months. The pain persisted for about a month, so I called the office and didn't hear back for two weeks prior to following up again. I never received a call from Dr. Lashgari just a call from her nurse, who was very rude, telling me if I was still in pain, I could do an ultrasound. when I asked how long it would take to get those results back, she said I don't know I don't work for washington radiology. I asked if she could have Dr. Lashgari give me a call so she could answer some of my questions and she said sure. Three days I later I still hadn't heard from her and I switched doctors. This is by far the worst experience I have ever had with a physician. read more

I went to Dr. Prather on recommendation from a friend because after a year of stopping birth control my period had not come back. My appointment was at 8am. I was in her office by 7:50 am and in my car by 8 am. While I appreciate the timeliness, she spent maybe 5 mintues talking to me. Then she sent me off for a bunch of blood tests and a pelvic sonogram. The blood work all came back normal, but the sonorgram showed I had cysts. I had to keep calling her office for my results and for what i needed to do next. finally, a month later, after I finished all my other visits to the endrocronoligist, i called again to see what was next. She called me to tell me I had PCOS and thats it... she said we could do other things when I wanted to get pregnant. Not at all concerned with me not having a period or having pcos, said it in a super blunt manner without explaining what it means, or what it would mean in the future when I wanted to have children. Zero sensitivity around a scary topic for women.I realize this isn't anything life threatening, but she was just so cold about everything. Needless to say, she isn't who I want to work with when im trying to get pregnant, going through my first pregnancy, all of which can be very emotional. For now I am still looking for a compassionate gyno/obgyn. read more

I had a very negative and unprofessional experience trying to switch to this office halfway through my pregnancy. I was told by the receptionist to have my records sent over from my current doctor, and that once received I would be called to make an appointment. I specifically asked if they were taking new patients, and she said that they were but would need to review my records first since I was past 20 weeks in my pregnancy. I spent $50 plus several calls back and forth between my doctor and Dr. Prather's office coordinating. I received a phone call a day later from a receptionist saying that Doctor Prather had rejected my transfer. I was given absolutely no explanation from the doctor, and could have very easily been told upon my first call that they weren't taking any new patients. I asked to have the doctor call me as I thought I at least deserved an explanation, which she never did. I then called a few days later and asked to have my records sent back to me since they are personal, and the receptionist said they wouldn't be paying to have them sent to me and proceeded to hang up on me. All in all, extremely unprofessional, and a blessing in disguise that I won't be switching to this office. read more
