From unlearning the bad swim habits I had (thought I knew how to swim from doing sessions with different coaches! LOL) to learning the right ways, she's guided me with a lot of enthusiasm and patience! Observing her back then coaching other adults, everyone can really tell how knowledgeable and confident but humble she is at what she's doing. And now that I am actually learning through her, in every step, it inspires me to do a lot more! You will really see the improvement after every lesson. Kristina is a coach you wouldn't want to let go of! She will accommodate and is very flexible with whatever is comfortable for your learning and speed -- no pressure at all! There's a lot more to say about how wonderful she is but tell you, she's not just a big mentor but also a great person. Swim with her and you'll see what I meant. :)

It's rare to meet a teacher who truly knows how to meet students where they are, and Kristina does…read moreexactly that. I started swimming for exercise a few months ago after higher impact activities weren't working for my body anymore, and I quickly noticed I had no idea what I was doing, even though I'd learned how to swim as a kid. I felt like I was flailing around in the pool, couldn't swim for more than 15 minutes without feeling exhausted, and couldn't breathe correctly. Basically I could survive in the pool, but thriving wasn't even a possibility. After only a few lessons with Kristina, I feel more confident, I'm understanding how to breathe without freaking out, and I'm becoming more aware of how my body moves in the water. I've even worked my way up to swimming for about an hour, because I'm learning how to swim more efficiently. Kristina is an excellent teacher, and she makes the lessons enjoyable, approachable, and 100% worthwhile. She takes an individualized approach to teaching and offers useful feedback in a kind, compassionate way. I'm looking forward to continuing to work with Kristina, and I highly recommend her coaching, whether you're just learning to swim or you're already an aquatic badass and want to get even better.

The San Diego Canoe and Kayak Team is a non-profit organization focused on developing young…read moreathletes in the sports of canoeing and kayaking. Founded by 1992 Olympian, Chris Barlow, the team includes paddlers of all skill levels and ages and offers unique opportunities to travel to both regional and international competitions. The group meets on Fiesta Island and has been sponsored by the City of San Diego Lifeguards. The Children's Racing Team is an offshoot of the Junior Lifeguards program and trains the juniors in how to handle kayaks and canoes. In fact, the Children's Racing Team is the only program in San Diego designed to develop and train children in competitive paddling. My son became an expert kayaker thanks to the great training found here. He also got to march with the kids group in the annual OB Christmas Parade, where they roll down Newport Avenue in motorized kayaks! Because of the expert first class coaching, many participants go on to graduate and compete at world class levels. It is really nice to kayak early in the morning on Fiesta Island. There is a calming peacefulness found there and no where else like that in San Diego. I did the Color Run back in 2012 and just noticed on my account that the company who processed…read moretheir race and payments posted an unauthorized charge of $89.95 for a yearly membership 7 and 8 years later! I was charged in 2019 and again for 2020. I just noticed it and tried to call ACTIVE NETWORK but they had heavy call volumes so I reported the unauthorized charges to my bank and BBB.org who are currently investigating it. If you check them out on BBB.org there are NUMEROUS complaints on the same issue. ActiveNetwork.com even has a Q&A on the annual fee. So it must happen pretty often. I logged into the account and looked at my history of charges from them. I attached a photo with this review. I hope races and marathons stop working with this shady company.

Thought I'd better get this review out since I'm doing the LA Color Run tomorrow!…read more I was signed up for the 9:00am wave. We picked up our bibs that morning of the event and the lines moved along smoothly. Reading the other reviews, I'm glad I wasn't in town Friday to make the pick up at the store. They gave out water bottles that morning with different colored lids and sweatbands for your head. With so many people, it took awhile to finally get to the start of the line but that was to be expected. Items were thrown into the waiting crowd. I'm sure these were the same items that were for sale. During the route, we were able to put in some running, dodging the walkers. I did my best to get color on me from the volunteers. If you didn't get enough color on you during the run, you will most definitely get showered with it during the after party where color is thrown in the air at intervals. Awesome energy at the post run party but got hit with elbows and arms a few times since my cousin insisted on being so close to the front. The crowd was filled with happy, hyped-up people that got crazy trying to catch the items being thrown from the stage, which included more packets of color. It's crazy standing in there when people are throwing the powder up in the air. The sun gets blocked out for those seconds. I didn't see any blowers as we were leaving but I did hear one. My cousin just wanted to get to the hotel and shower so we didn't bother looking. Make sure to bring something to cover your car seats for the ride home. Expect your tongues to be colored. I think I was getting over a cold at the time. This is gross but even the mucous from my throat was colored the following day. Don't worry, it's all harmless. I'm still alive. Awesome event and I had a blast but I noticed these color-type runs are becoming more common now.

It was…read moreincredible to cross the finish line without getting hurt after so many weekends at Lake Miramar and weekdays pounding the neighborhood pavement. Crowd was wonderful - lots of funny signs, cheering, music, alcohol stops and overall inspiration to complete this hilly course - thank you, neighbors and volunteers! Now I got the bragging rights to say I completed a half marathon while in my 40s, and also motivated two other guys to put in the work necessary to finish ahead of me. Worth it!
