In early April 2026, we took a surf lesson with Steve and had SO much fun. He met us (ages 44, 44, and 15) at the top of the steps at Stonesteps Beach and helped us suit up in comfy wetsuits. We were all first-timers from a landlocked state. Steve's instructions out on the water were easy to follow and he helped steady the boards to ensure we all got up! The ocean temp was perfect for a 75 degree sunny day- we were super comfortable. The ocean floor is very flat with no rocks or seaweed. Honestly wouldn't change a darn thing, and huge shoutout to Steve who is very good at this! Would absolutely do this again. read more

Surfing has always been something that I was too afraid or intimidated to try. I've lived in SoCal my whole life and was kinda embarrassed that I never REALLY tried to surf. I decided to face my fears and sign up for a lesson. I'm so happy I did. I had an amazing private lesson with Steve who was very patient and encouraging. They provided the board and wetsuit so all I needed to do was show up. It was a perfect day and the waves weren't too scary. They picked a spot that wasn't crowded and we just kept trying to catch waves. Steve provided helpful tips each wave and I eventually was able to ride multiple waves which surprised me! I wasn't expecting to be able to be able to stay up on the board, but through minor adjustments from Steve I exceeded my expectations. Thank you Lynn for setting everything up and making it easy. My son and 5 of his friends have now all attended the Surfin Fire Surf Camp, and WOW!!!! Blown away by how much I watched each of these kids improve in just 5 days. The coaches are so great with kids, and you can tell they LOVE what they do. The kid to coach ratio is 3-1, which is the best you can find in all of north county. This camp is so much fun with sooo much in-water time surfing. Lots of other "surf camps" are more about playing on the beach and getting familiar with the ocean. We had a great experience this week at Surfin Fire. My 11 year old finally agreed to take surf lessons, so we signed up for a three day camp to see how he would like it. The first day, he was able to catch a wave by himself on his knees. Day two he was able to stand up! Day three, he said Surfin Fire was the funnest camp of the summer and he definitely wanted to do it again. A special shout out to GAVIN, a really nice instructor who took my son under his wing today. I signed up for a surf lesson through the concierge at Aviara in Carlsbad. Alex arrived to pick me up and off we went to one of his favorite beaches, Moonlight Beach in Encinitas. First experience with private surf lessons and could not have gone better. Incredible service. JP came out and met our group at the drop of a hat, AT THE BEACH with the gear and got us up and running quickly. So much gratitude for the way my daughter with Rett Syndrome was taken care of by JP. He was so patient and understanding and created an amazing experience. JP and his crew are good guys. My boy spent a week at his surf camp last summer, and last week end we hired 3 instructors to supervise a 12 year old's surfin birthday party down at Ponto. Some of the boys could already surf, some had no experience at all. All of them had a blast. They have a bunch of giant foamy longboards, and wetsuits if you need em. Or, you can bring your own boards. The instructors made sure all the boys stayed safe even though the surf got gnarly and and the water got rippy as the day went on. And when it all got too much (it was a really big swell), they kept them running, jumping and swimming with games up and down the beach. Overall, a great experience. Don't hesitate to send your kids to one of their camps (or, if you're not much of a surfer, go yourself!) or hire the crew out for a totally cool party experience your guests will talk about for weeks. read more

I kept hearing about good things about Surfin Fire from the other moms at school and finally tried them out. I signed up my two boys for the after school program and they had a great experience! I couldn't believe how quick they were standing up and actually surfing. These guys really take giving surf lessons seriously - but they make is fun for the kids. This company has three locations in North County. I went to the Oceanside location. I took my friend who was in town from Philly. Max was our surf instructor. We had such a blast! I was scared but, with Max, I felt comfortable. He was great at keeping his eyes on both of us and ensuring that we both had a great experience. My family participated in the Surfing Madonna program yesterday at Moonlight Beach. It's a chance for autistic children to surf. Surfin' Fire provided the surfing instructors. Unfortunately, my son had a bad experience with another surfing program and refused to participate. His twin, however, was drooling at the chance to surf. He had been jealous that his brother got to surf. Our instructor was Jack and was kind enough to let my son Hunter use his brother's lesson. Hunter had an amazing time and couldn't get enough. Jack was tireless and not only kept taking Hunter out, but offered him surfing advice that helped him improve in just one day. Hunter is already asking for lessons and if Surfin' Fire provides a summer camp, we will be signing up. My friend purchased a groupon for us to do a 2 hour lesson and at first we were annoyed we could only use the groupon on Tuesday Thursday's or Saturday's at 12:30 but we worked it out and went up there. The staff was great and patient and fun. JP was by far the best. He was caring and patient and seemed genuinely excited about helping us learn how to surf. My 10 year old son loves to try new things but he doesn't always want to go back. This summer he wanted to try surfing so we signed him up for surf camp early in the summer and he ended up spending all of his free days at Surfin Fire Surf Camp. He had never surfed before and still was able to stand up on the board the first day. He was hooked! He loved the instructors and being at the beach. The surf camp had a great ratio of instructors to campers. There were so many instructors that the kids were all able to get the help they needed. For my review I have copied and pasted the message I sent to JP after two days of lessons with Surfin Fire Surf School. Here it is: JP, I just wanted to let you know that we think you have a great asset in Casey Brown. My son Chris and I have surfed a bit before, but with limited success. Between your pre-surfing instructions on the basics and Casey's help in the water, well, we've never caught so many waves or ridden them so well- or had so much fun!!! Casey is a natural teacher and has a great way of instructing and encouraging at the same time. He makes you feel like you are already a cool surfer, with no embarrassment about your skill level. He was very intuitive about reading our confidence levels. He could tell my son wanted to go for bigger waves and I for a bit smaller ones, and served them up accordingly. He was also great at reading the waves and getting us in the right place on the right ones. The way he paddles behind you on his board while you are paddling for a wave and then pushes your board, transferring his momentum to you to help you catch the wave was amazing. He even told us when to stand up. I will miss his help the next time I surf on my own! He was also great at keeping me calm and reassured when I was getting tired and a little nervous while being slammed by those really big (for me) sets that seemed to come out of nowhere and catch me inside. He gave great tips for dealing with them and was right there with me- it really helped. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know what a great job he did for us and would encourage you to keep him happy. Went surfing in August with Surfin Fire for a breast cancer retreat and had a great time. We surfed Saturday and Sunday morning. Put my daughter in a week long half day camp with Surfin Fire this week. My little brother had gone through these camps over 6 years ago and we decided to try them out again for my daughter. My daughter is only 6 years old, but a strong swimmer. The camp was fantastic! They definitely were well staffed. The staff to student ratio was always very good! Sometimes one instructor for two kids or even one on one at times which is so amazing! My daughter had two instructors in particular (even though every single one was great) that were over the top wonderful. Fletcher and Anthony took their time each day with the kids, explaining ocean safety and basic surf instructions. My daughter caught a wave and stood up within the first ten minutes on the first day and within the first hour was catching waves on her own! By the time day five happened Anthony had her doing tricks and riding huge waves! Fletcher even had her trying a short board! To make a long review short, this is a great camp. I will be calling to do private lessons with both of these guys soon! My daughter had the best time, and I 100% credit these men and all the instructors who helped it run smoothly. The owner, JP even came by a few days during the week to help with instruction, monitor his great staff, and took time to chat with some of us parents.
