Put my daughter in a week long half day camp with Surfin Fire this week. My little brother had gone through these camps over 6 years ago and we decided to try them out again for my daughter. My daughter is only 6 years old, but a strong swimmer. The camp was fantastic! They definitely were well staffed. The staff to student ratio was always very good! Sometimes one instructor for two kids or even one on one at times which is so amazing! My daughter had two instructors in particular (even though every single one was great) that were over the top wonderful. Fletcher and Anthony took their time each day with the kids, explaining ocean safety and basic surf instructions. My daughter caught a wave and stood up within the first ten minutes on the first day and within the first hour was catching waves on her own! By the time day five happened Anthony had her doing tricks and riding huge waves! Fletcher even had her trying a short board! To make a long review short, this is a great camp. I will be calling to do private lessons with both of these guys soon! My daughter had the best time, and I 100% credit these men and all the instructors who helped it run smoothly. The owner, JP even came by a few days during the week to help with instruction, monitor his great staff, and took time to chat with some of us parents. It was my 5 year old and my first time surfing last weekend. They supplied surf boards and wet suits for both us of us and then we headed out into the water. My daughter's lesson was an hour, her instructor was fantastic and great with kids. My instructor, Phil, was also wonderful. Keep in mind I had never surfed or so much as rode a skateboard so I was a little nervous to say the least. No matter who many times I fell down Phil was always encouraging me and giving me pointers. These guys come to my son's special needs school every year, so I put together a group of kids both special needs and typical. The instructors were friendly, professional, kind and incredibly patient with our kids. They shared their passion for surfing in a way that worked for each child. By the end, every kid except mine was surfing, but he was on the board and in the water the whole time having fun AND behaving, which I consider a major success. We will definitely do this again. Kellan, Jonathan and Hanna are among the especially talented instructors. read more

The lessons from this place were awesome. We had Alex as our instructor. The guy was energetic, supportive, and his lessons were very informative. Nothing but high praise for JP and his crew. Went out for a 2 hour class with my girlfriend. None of us had ever surfed before and we were taken exceptionally well care of. This experience has by far been the best camp experience my kids have ever had. With 2 boys, 6 & 8 - having never surfed before, the week was absolutely amazing for them and me! With a mama's surf lesson mid-week and all the fun in the sun, it's hard to believe it's come to an end. The instructors are knowledgable, patient, safe & positive. My kids had an amazing experience with surfin fire. They were wonderful. Really good group of people. I had put my children together in a semi private lesson. A couple minutes into the lesson they we concerned that my daughter would not be able to keep up with my son and they immediately changed plans to switch her to a private lesson. They didn't even charge me extra for this. They rearranged their day to make sure both my kids had a great experience. Their main concern was that everyone had fun, nothing else mattered to them. They even heard that it was my daughter's birthday and gave her a shirt as a present. We will definitely be going back. I may even try it next year! read more

My brother and I tried surfing for the first time today in Oceanside. Our instructor JP arrived on time and was very friendly. He got to know us first and then we each got a surfboard and wet suit that fitted pretty much perfectly. That took almost no time at all and we were on the sand within ten minutes. The instructor shows and teaches you the basics of surfing on the sand first and then helps you adjust in the water. I normally don't like to learn by instructors but I was comfortable and felt like he was just another surfer that was helping out... A LOT. My brother is blind, and (no offense bro) is typically the worst at any sport. Yet he had a great time and was able to actually surf (Same here). I had a fantastic time and if I need another lesson I will defiantly go directly to the same place! read more

Do not work here! I worked a summer for "Surfin Fire" and hated it. When I signed up I thought it would be a fun summer gig, since I have been surfing my whole life and have done surf camps before. I have heard surf lesson companies pay their instructors close to 11 or 12 per hour. Surfin Fire only pays minimum wage.... 9 if your lucky and 10 if your good personal friends with the owner. When I first met the owner right off the bat he was a complete jerk. Thought he would be a cool, humble guy... definitely not. They handle situations very poorly and have no idea how to run a company. Most unprofessional "organization" I have ever seen. read more

My name is Kim Goodeve-Green and I am the Executive Director for an organization called StandUp For Kids in Oceanside, CA. For the past few years, JP and his team have participated in a major fundraiser, called The Switchfoot BroAm. More importantly...they have provided surf lessons to my kids. My kids are homeless youth who feel they are not worth anything...who have never surfed, nor do they have the opportunity to get out there and try. The Surfin Fire team have changed lives every year now by getting my kids out into that water, by guiding them and giving my kids the confidence to fall down, and more importantly StandUp. This is a huge life lesson....we all know this...but when you have been thrown away like trash (as my kids have) it's hard to even try to get out in that water, let alone standup on the board. The team at Surfin Fire instantly make my kids feel confident. They aren't judging, they are patient, cool and so supportive. Every year I have witnessed change take place in the kids who have the opportunity to get out in that water and surf...This year was no different. I have a kid who has NEVER smiled...he has been coming to us for almost a year now.,,after going out with JP and his team...the kid has NOT STOPPED SMILING! He has so much joy on his face, it brings tears to my eyes. He fell, and fell, and crashed, and just ate it out in that water....but finally...he stood up on the board. Surfin Fire gave this kid confidence....he DID IT!! This kid will take this feeling of accomplishment and carry this joy into "the real world..." He CAN do it...He knows now, what pure joy feels like. I can not thank the team enough. This is only one kid...and there are many that have been lucky enough to experience the team of Surfin Fire. I can highly recommend Surfin Fire for lessons. Individual, group and/or camp. All of us can take a lesson and apply this to our lives....we fall, but we get up. Both my kids age 6 and 9 did the surf camp last summer at Ponto Beach. They absolutely loved it and by the end of the week they were officially surfing. All the instructors were so patient and kind. Wetsuits and all equipment was provided. Recommend this camp 100%!! read more

My son participated in a Surfin Fire event this week, and he had a BLAST! All of the staff of Surfin Fire were pleasant, joyful and hard-working! While their highest priority seemed to be the safety of our kids, this did not detract from making the surfing experience a lot of fun. Some surfing camps seem to involve only a couple of runs, either because it takes so much effort to get out in the water & get a good wave or because the kids start getting cold after a while in the water. Either all the conditions were perfect for us or these guys just really have their act together, but my son had so many runs, I lost count .. he was surfing constantly for a good 40 mins! We bought a daily deal for a surfing class a few months ago and it was the best experience I could have asked for, for my 8 year old kids. Surfer Steve was their instructor and he was awesome with them. They were scared, but he made them feel comfortable and at ease and really love and want to surf more! I wanted our 6 year old Grandson to get comfortable with the ocean waves so I signed him up for a boogie board lesson for one hour.Everyone helped out getting him started.All were friendly and helpful .His instructor Paul did a super job getting him used to the water and dealing with the waves.Since it was his first time in the ocean I was really surprised that Paul had him Duck Diving within 30 minutes. He spent the rest of the hour on the board and loved it. Did another hour the next day and Paul had him up on a surf board. Look no further for surf lessons anywhere! We brought our grandchildren to San Diego for a vacation, and signed them up for surf lessons! They had never tried surfing before, and the patient, sweet, encouraging instructors had them confident and really surfing! Our kids were 5, 6, 9 and 12 years old, and, they all had a blast! The price is so reasonable, that we signed up for a 2nd day! We loved our week in San Diego, but when we took a vote of our all-time favorite activity, surfing won hands down! I highly recommend this surf school. I found them online through a groupon and at first, was a little hesitant to get a lesson from them because they do not have a physical shop on the beach. I called the number on the website and Lynn Peterson, the wife of the owner, was very nice and explained to me that my brother and I would meet my instructor with the surfboards and equipment at Moonlight State Beach. The instructor, Wes, texted and made sure I knew where to meet him. At the beach, we changed into our wetsuits and met Wes on the beach with the boards. After a couple of minutes of teaching us how to be safe and stand up on the board, we were in the water. Wes worked tirelessly to get us up on the boards in the water and after three or four times, we were up on the waves! Wes was super chill and knew exactly how to get us up on the waves.
