Must visit. 10 Stars for 50 years in business. Epic surf shop and time machine to the early 1970s. I have been coming here since I moved to Metro Houston 20 years ago. I have seen the strip mall literally evolve around surfhouse. Much respect to the owners and (developers?!?) for making sure this landmark and epic shop didn't get pushed out. Yesterday I called and a real person who knows what's what gave me the rundown on their longboard skateboard inventory. No way l was going to order online a China made knock off for this important purchase. Slid in to and found the perfect sled, USA made gravity longboard that I bought for my son as his Christmas gift. It is the same shape as his hand me down that is almost 25 years old that he cruises to class on every day. Love the Surfhouse. Here is to 50 more years!!! read more

Best surf shop I've ever been to! Me and my family have been coming to Surfhouse for years bcuz my grandma is friends with the owner lol

I have been coming here since I was a kid so probably for over 40 years now. Hands down this is my favorite Surf Shop in Houston or anywhere within and around the city! I do also have an affinity for one other Surf Shop on Galveston Island, but this store Surfhouse is not only the BEST Surf Shop in Houston, it is also one of the very best Skate Shops in all of Houston! What I like most about this place is the true loyalty to the classics and to old school set ups! Whether it be a Surfboard set up for fast man-made barrels (think BSR Surf Park in Waco)... or whether it be for a nice longboard set up for old dudes like me... whether it be a custom set up popsicle or custom set up cruiser, maybe a custom set up Old School Peralta, or any number of local brands like Houston, etc. This place has it all! Came here on a whim. New to skateboarding and we were gifted a board but needed to have trucks out on. Ended up chit chatting with owners who were super nice. Wanted to pick up a skateboard for my 6 year old- and I try to support small, family run businesses whenever possible. Don't by skateboards from big box stores, indie skate shops are the way to go! This shop is adorable and reminded me of home (Southern California). While it may not be huge, they take great care of their customers and the complete that I walked out with in just a few minutes was built there in the shop. I'll definitely be back! I'm too old to be on a surfboard or skates, but being at Surfhouse makes me feel like i've come home. Lloyd, his wife, the whole staff take me back to a better time when not only the products were fun, but the people really connect with what you're talking about. As an aspiring surfer, I found this place really really cool and helpful. The man at the front desk (I believe he is the owner), was extremely knowledgeable and helpful in giving me some beginners info. They have a constantly rotating selection of boards, and a really easygoing atmosphere. Great place! Historical too because it's been open since the 60's. Definitely would recommend. read more

I've been coming for almost 20 years... I started when I used to skateboard all the time, now I just stopped by to see if they had some sandal/shoes to replace the sanuk shoes that I've nearly wore out the soles. They always have an impressive collection of clothes and boards(surf and skate) in stock. I walked out this time with some awesome sunglasses. I suggest you stop by and support independent businesses like this. It will free your soul from the corporations ramming commercial products and nonsense down your throat. This place is a Houston institution to say the least. Its been around since 1968, same location same awesome hippy owners. I remember coming here as a young surfer back in the day to get my Stubbies and OP's. I remember exchanging stories with Lloyd the owner about surfing...great memories. I think they may be a little more on the skate boarding end now but thats ok...ots still sidewalk surfing. Keep up the good work guys and God Bless yall. read more

This place is great. I bought a used channel islands surfboard here for $250 in great shape. I also saw an old Gerry Lopez board that was intriguing, but probably won't out-wait my wallet. Got some bones reds bearings for my wheels and some free stickers for my kids. The owners definitely deserve all the praise they get for keeping this little Houston gem alive for all these years. I left a surfboard for them to sale at a great deal sale fast with board bag, a hobie slug I was willing to take 100$ so the tag was with their 50$ for the sale. Well it was taking a while that I didn't expect, come to find out they were asking 200$ on the web site and then when it was sold, was put off for 2 months, oh and if your thinking cool I got 150$ out of the deal wrong got what I asked for 100$ and not a word said. And then there was the time I asked a bout a board I was looking at just 2 weeks before (on the phone) next thing you know it an extra 50$. Yeah thanks surf bro. read more
