Turkey and Roast Beef Sandwich on a Roll
Linford E.

Located off the beaten path on a road that needs re paving, is a sub shop with a lot of potential. It is hard to miss driving by with little signage and next to an unassuming salon. The staff is friendly, but not very happy or at least the day I visited. The food was good and I will come back. When leaving, my sub fell through the bottom of my brown paper bag. Like I said, lots of potential, but with a little more welcoming staff and more reliable bags, I would have been able to rate this establishment higher.

Was getting my car serviced and I walked over and got the Baja turkey and initially wasn't impressed by the presentation . However, if there's a place that can make a good sandwich it is Surf And Sub Deli l and I'll for sure come back! The lady at the front counter was so nice too.Prices were good

Delicious food, great service, and staff were helpful with recommendations! Excited to try other menu items next visit :)

$7 for a breakfast croissant chock full of real egg, bacon, cheese, avocado, and a lil slather of mayo that tastes even better than it looks? What a dream! That was including the $1.50 charge for avocado too! Officially, breakfast ends at 11, however the lady helping me was kind enough to still make the croissant for me when I came in at 11:30ish which I really appreciated. Polite, quick service, delicious, freshly made vittles in a clean, quiet space plus at a steal of a price... all of the above makes Surf n Sub a great go-to option for sandwiches in the area and tasty food in general when you don't want to brave a line or crazy parking.

My foodja order that wasn't even close

This deli is on our lunch list for Foodja delivery at work. The first time I chose a salad and it really wasn't very good. Today, I thought maybe the good Yelp reviews are based on sandwiches. My order clearly stated add onions, lettuce, mustard, tomatoes, and extra meat on ciabatta bread. What I got has no tomatoes, onions, questionable extra meat (additional $3) and wasn't on ciabbata. How can a $17 6" sandwich go so wrong?

Phenomenal subs made fresh! This family owned shop is the absolute best and everyone needs to visit to experience the great service and tasty food!

This lil shop is located in the industrial part of Kearny Mesa in San Diego and came here based upon my other yelpers' reviews. I can tell you for the sandwiches, we were not disappointed. I viewed the menu online prior to making my entrance through the door. This shop has a small parking lot shared with others in the complex, as well as street parking - but like everywhere first come first served. It seems like a lot of locals ventured here and pre-order their food. I noticed a soup special menu upon entering the door. I ordered the tomato basil for my SO, however and unfortunately he did not quite like it much. I didn't think it was too bad, wasn't great but okay. He was hoping to dip his sandwich in the soup. Otherwise our sandwiches were fully stocked with avocado and chicken and did I mention delicious? the bread comes from the California Baking Company and their bread is super delicious! I even went the healthier route and ordered a wheat - it was the best wheat I have tasted in a long time. Accordingly, the sandwiches are about $10+- depending on what you order. They have bottled beverages in the cold cases and offer some cold salads (potato salad etc.) in half pint containers. We will definitely be back to try other sandwiches as it was all made fresh and super delicious! Staff was friendly and efficient with the amount of orders for the time I came and the foot traffic in-and-out.

Amazing/ great sandwiches freshly made to order. Service was kind and the place is quiet and comfortable

Baja turkey on squaw bread
Vanessa G.

Searched through my Yelp for a good deli to try on my lunch. Happy to say I found an amazing one today. This sandwich was crisp and not one speck of dryness. Their Chipotle mayo was impressive it had the perfect hint of spice. I tried the Baja turkey on squaw bread toasted with extra spears of pickle. Todays lunch was a hit I'm coming back tomorrow morning to try a breakfast croissant

After waiting 15 minutes in line on the stairs, we were told about the wait. The restaurant was also difficult to find, tucked up a staircase in a hidden area, with no designated waiting area. We had to wait near the elevator lobby until our table was ready. The food and drinks were just okay, nothing too special. However, the atmosphere was beautiful! My favorite feature was the unique glass bathroom with its unusual toilets and sinks. FINAL THOUGHTS: Beautiful ambiance, but the long wait and lack of a proper waiting area took away from the experience. If you're celebrating a birthday here, plan ahead and be prepared to wait!

Food: - Flat iron steak: delicious and super tendy with a nice crust. Came with an arugula salad - Fish of the day: today was rock fish with a creamy panang/thai sauce and it was DELICIOUS - Duck: my table's favorite dish. You can make your own tiny tacos and the macha chili was seriously the best thing ever - French fries: nice horsestring fries, cant go wrong - Tuna crudo: super light and citrusy and flavorful, but only like 5-6 pieces - Chicken skewers: this honestly fell really flat. Would not recommend, i'd say it's the worst thing on the menu and surprisingly fell short. Doesnt feel like it belongs on the menu. - Brussel Sprouts: really good and unique with a peanut butter sauce - Mac and cheese: yummy but nothing special Overall was a great experience but I'd probably only come here on special occasions. Their drinks were also fantastic - the cantaloupe was super tasty. Shoutout Ola for being the best waiter!

Staff were friendly and informative,…read moreand they do live music mostly on Fridays and Saturdays (artists are listed on their website). Tom Kha Lins ($18): The standout. A creamy blend of gin, cream of coconut, lime, lemongrass, and red chili oil. Light and refreshing, with a lightly boozy kick at the end. The sweetness builds as it sits, likely from simple syrup. Lamb Meatballs ($15, $12 during happy hour): Moist and very herbaceous, with aggressive gaminess. The tomato sauce is noticeably over-salted, and the pecorino romano gets lost behind the salt, herbs, and meat. 6/10. Paired with the Tom Kha Lins, even the cocktail's sweetness couldn't wash away the sauce's saltiness, so that pairing isn't my favorite. I Got Ube ($12): A fun, unusual take on an ube soda, made with mint syrup, lemon juice, and sparkling water. The ube hits first, then lemony notes that shift into a grape-like flavor, with lots of acid and bubbles throughout. Interesting, but not to my taste. I preferred the Tom Kha Lins. Verdict: Come for the cocktails and the laid-back atmosphere, and time it with the live music. Go easy on the salt if you order the meatballs.

Something about it spiritually makes me feel a bit grounded into history. I love the fresh rosemary they place in the dish as well. Such a unique touch of earthy-love I'm just glad it wasn't a hour wait or longer how I was repeatedly warned. We got seats right away. Could've been due to the construction on the street near by. I'll definitely return whenever I'm in town.

Thank goodness there was room too, because wow oh wow. It has been three weeks and we keep talking about that happy hour. We made a reservation for 10:15 which mind you, you have to put a credit card down and we got there early, around 9:42am. In the reservation we asked to be seated inside but we got seated outside. We decided pretty quickly what we wanted and we kept seeing servers going back and forth passing our table but no one had come to our table to offer water or ask us our order. I had a view inside where the bar is, and I saw a lot of servers, many of them just standing around so it was annoying that we had not gotten anyone to check in on us. Finally around 10:07 someone came to check in and tell us there was a "mix up". We just ordered our food, which we shared the cure. Then another server came to check in again. Which interestingly enough, he served a table across from us who got sat down way after us. The food was okay. The gravy was the best part. The bacon was not crispy, needed more time to cook. Some of the tater tots were good while others were way too toasted. The eggs were meh. We spent $31 on ONE dish and bad service and yes we left a tip even after that service. Disappointed that the quality and the service has gone down. Won't be coming back and wouldn't recommend.
