For the past four Fridays, she's been offering a special intro class for participants at Cancer Support Community. This is the 8th year she's done this amazing program. It allows cancer patients, survivors, and their supporters to get an introduction to basic ballroom dances, melding music with footsteps and other dance moves. The My Health Studio Facility provides a cozy home for dancing. There's a good sized wooden floor in the main room, with evidence of various fitness equipment around the perimeter. A side room offers a small kitchen facility and lounge area. Two restrooms come in handy. A private aesthetician's office and a reception lobby round out the space. My understanding is that they offer a variety of fitness classes and workshops throughout the week. Parking can be tricky. We're advised that you should pay attention to the signs stating which suite the spaces are reserved for, and only park in the ones for #303. There are unmarked options around the corner. The studio is at the far back end of the collection of businesses on Via Colinas opposite the Four Seasons. The complex used to have green awnings, but they've gone for a generic tan color now, which isn't as distinctive. Neighbors include Five Threads Brewing Company and a newer wine bar that fronts the street, which will have to put on the to-try list. Offering appreciation for My Health Studio to provide a home to Dance 4 Wellness' classes so that Cancer Support Community's participants can have fun learning to dance.

I recently enrolled at Conejo Valley adult education for a certificate program for office manager in order to get back up to speed in order to support myself after my divorce is final. It is a scary time... but fortunately for me, Chris Wilson has been my teacher for the first two classes in my certificate program. He is so thorough and makes sure every student knows what they are doing. I suddenly feel empowered. Because I am not just going through the motions. I am re-learning what I knew so long ago after many years. The class projects that he gives us proves to me that I actually know what he's teaching. I did not think I would be able to get back what I have lost. It is apparent that Mr. Wilson loves his job and he truly is rooting for his students and is willing to help them however he can. I recently had an early meeting with my attorney during class hours which I could not change. So I ended up being over an hour late for class. He was so accommodating and came to me during class break and caught me up on everything that the rest of the class had gone over that morning. Mr. Wilson has been my instructor for the first two classes for my certificate program. I can only hope that as I move forward, any other instructor that I encounter at the Conejo Valley adult school will be as knowledgeable, enthusiastic and patient as he has been with the entire class.

However, the front office team has been disappointing. They don't greet you when you walk in and don't come across as approachable or helpful. When I asked about enrolling my son in an additional lesson with the same instructor, the staff member kept repeating the same information without really trying to understand what I was asking. No one stepped in to assist or clarify, which made the interaction frustrating. I wasn't set on a specific class type. I was simply trying to have my son work with the same instructor twice a week, whether that meant private or group lessons. Additionally, out of the three lessons we've attended, the instructor we originally booked has only been present once. Each time, we receive notice the day before or even the same day that there will be a substitute, which has been disappointing. I hope the front office team can improve their customer service and communication, as it would make a big difference in the overall experience.

UPDATE: Kaylee from the TO location called my wife and we were able to discuss what happened. She…read moreempathized, apologized and assured us that our kids would be able to bring their own gear to practice and that there was absolutely a place for kids who don't want to swim competitively yet. - We shall see how their next practice goes...Kaylee will be sending us an email that recaps our call today. This review is for the Lake Lindero location. My wife was invited to bring the eldest two of our children (5 & 7 year-olds) to trial out a pilot for this location at the end of the summer. We were told that it was a non-competitive team and everything was going swimmingly (5-Stars). However that instructor moved back to Hawaii and when the official program was kicked off in the fall, we were asked to bring any friends for an unpaid trial to gauge interest. However, this is where things went downhill fast. The first incident occurred during the first trial, where the owner/swim instructor forcibly removed a swim shirt/rash guard from a 7 year-old boy, who was telling him to stop and visibly resisting him. Our friend never brought her kids back again, but sent a very kind email asking them to review this practice and ensure that they not turn off any other children to swimming in the future. The second issue that occurred was that there were not enough instructors for the 4 lanes, which were packed with 15-16 kids. Another friend of ours wanted her daughter to join, but she couldn't understand the instruction and it became clear that this was a competitive environment rather than a non-competitive environment that we were led to believe. Lastly, our children were enjoying the swimming part, but repeatedly shared that it wasn't very fun and that it was a lot of work and that there was no time to make new friends (these are kids that play multiple sports year round and are not lazy children, however we just wanted a safe place for our kids to fall in love with swimming, since we have a pool and they are strong swimmers). What pushed us over the edge was being told opposing stories regarding a swim package (~$300/child for an embroidered backpack, suit, fins, etc). We were told that it was not mandatory to swim and since our kids are not wanting to compete, investing around $1K for one month of swim sounds ludicrous. My wife paid for the first month and when she showed up with our children this afternoon, the owner refused to open the equipment room for our kids to use the fins and kick-boards. This has caused us to cancel our membership (we have asked for a full refund and if this is honored, I will revise my review and rating). This is all so unfortunate, since our kids and many families in the neighborhood are looking for a place to take our kids where they don't need to compete, but just swim for fun. We had over 10 kids, who wanted to join our kiddos, but it looks like that won't be happening anymore. My daughter summed it up best, when she got home, "Daddy...today is such a bummer day."
