My grandson and I took a Saturday morning class to learn how to make savory and sweet croissants. There were about nine people in the class and our instructor was Chef Victor and he was very nice and entertaining and very helpful. He never made us feel rushed or nervous. He just kept telling us that we were there to have fun and that nothing needed to be perfect.... I It would still taste great!! The dough was already made, but we got to roll it out and learn a lot of technique - Chef was very good about answering any questions that we had. Of course, the best part was that we got to eat our creations right after they were taken out of the oven and there were enough leftover that we got to take some home! The pistachio and chocolate chip filling for the sweet croissant was especially yummy! Chef kept the conversation flowing by telling us about his beautiful wife and talented kids. Attend a Date Night: French Luxury cooking class and it was great! The instructor was kind and the instructions were easy to follow. Not a ton of cooking really involved, as the tasks were split between the six of us attending the class as well and the instructor. The food was absolutely incredible though and we got an instruction booklet to take home so I will definitely be trying my hand and preparing all of the dishes on my own. Scallops and risotto with and AMAZING sauce (I am still dreaming of that sauce), finished off with a cherry clafoutis and homemade whipped cream for dessert. Yum! We attended a Date Night cooking class at Sur la Table last night and had a blast. The evening started with cheese and cracker appetizers laid out before the event began. I wish we had known ahead of time- but you can bring in your own wine/beer to enjoy during class. They have wine openers and wine glasses available as well. If you're going to attend a class, I would recommend planning ahead if you'd like to enjoy a beverage during class. Another tip- if you need any kitchen items, taking a class grants you a 10% off coupon good for everything in the store. We had an opportunity to show during a small break in the class (between cooking and eating) and at the conclusion of class. The rest of the time was spent cooking in both a large group and in two smaller groups. There wasn't a ton of things to do for each person since it was a collaborative cooking experience, but we hit it off with others in the class and enjoyed their company during the cooking process. The class description indicates that each participant will enjoy a taste of each dish- but I have to say, it was much more like a well portioned meal. Don't expect huge restaurant portions, but more like the suggested serving size that most of us ignore! The instructor, Rachel, was snarky and sarcastic- I think some found her abrasive, but I thought she was funny. The classes are pricey, but they are a ton of fun if you're looking for something different and potentially out of your comfort zone. Paella, Kale Salad, and Crema Catalana! I attended a Spanish themed cooking class at Sur La Table last night and had a ball. When we arrived, each of us received the recipes for the evening along with an apron. They had all of the ingredients measured and prepped and a cheese plate ready to go. A few students in the class brought a bottle of wine which they opened and enjoyed while we cooked. The chef and assistant for the evening divided us into two groups, and each of us prepared our dinner for the evening. The family style cooking experience was enjoyable as we chatted while we diced our veggies. Chef Rachel was very knowledgable and kept a close eye on us throughout while injecting the conversation with a snarky sense of humor. She taught us proper knife skills and answered all of our questions. At he end of the knife, we enjoyed the three course meal that we prepared. I recently took my boyfriend to Sur La Table to attend a cooking class for his birthday but what it turned out to be was a $120 demonstration. The chef started 15-20 minutes late. In the class description, it said we would be split up into teams of 4 to create the meal but that didn't happen. We were not able to taste or do anything ourselves, the dozen people in my class had to gather around the front table and and observe for 2.5 hours. The chef was unaware how to use the insta-pot to make the southern BBQ ribs that the class was based on, making it difficult to learn (considering 11/12 people in our class did not own an insta-pot). We were also so short on time that we were not able to see how they made our dessert - two other assistants just made them in the background. In the class instructions, it was also not listed that we bring our own drinks. Silly me for assuming a class that expensive would have something for us to drink. Everyone in my class had to choke down the dry BBQ ribs and mac and cheese with nothing to drink. I cannot tell you how disappointed I was. I essentially paid $120 for an unsatisfactory meal that we weren't even able to cook ourselves. I'm not sure that this is how each class is normally run but I will not be paying that amount again to find out. read more

Additionally, we decided to try out a cooking class--we did the Let's Make Croissants. All I have to say is that it was amazing and we had so much fun. The cost of the class was 59 for each one of us and we had a 2.5 hour of hands on baking and testing and then eating. Not to mention how great to was to be with like minded people who wanted to bake and cook. I highly recommend doing any of their cooking classes as they are worth it and oh, so fun. Now, Sur La Table is a new concept for me, I had never heard of it prior to moving into Cleveland. So when I got here and needed to stock up my kitchen I headed over to Williams-Sonoma. I love cooking in Le Creuset and was underwhelmed with the offerings at a couple of their stores in the area so I finally asked one of the sales associates if there was another store in the city that sold them. She thought about it for a moment and then pointed me in the direction of Sur La Table. The moment I walked in the door and saw the shelves piled high with every type of kitchen implement imaginable, I knew Williams-Sonoma had lost a customer! Every time I come in this store, I walk out with some new baking item, it's very hard for me to resist grabbing something new to take home and try out. In fact, I think my breaking point has almost been reached since my poor little kitchen can't really hold that much more....but I'm sure I could find room for that candy thermometer....and the madeline pan.....oh and I could probably squeeze in a baking stone for my bread too (haven't looked to see if they actually carry these but I wouldn't be surprised!). I bought one sauce pan from the Sur La Table line, and I must say that it has served me well. Nice design, good heat distribution and works well for everything from gravy to chocolate....best thing about it? Cheap! I like to save money when I can and their own line allows you to do that with ease, it's more realistic than customers going and buying the copper-clad pots at Williams-Sonoma....I don't even want to look at some of those price tags, Yikes! If you like cooking or baking, be sure to make this a destination for some jaw-dropping browsing, if you don't walk out of the store with something in your hands, you'll definitely walk out with some new ideas for your time in the kitchen. -1 star only because I'm not a huge fan of their dinnerware section....if you're going to have plates and glasses, do it right or just get rid of it. read more

Whether you need a ceramic ginger grater, a battery-powered pepper mill, or just a new knife, it's probably hiding somewhere in amongst the jumbles of kitchen implements here. It's lots of fun to browse, but if you're in a hurry, it's best to ask one of the staff to help you find whatever you're looking for--otherwise, you could easily waste a half hour. Luckily, most of the employees seem fairly knowledgable about what's in stock and which fondue pot it's hiding behind. Compared to the Williams Sonoma over at La Place in Beachwood, Sur La Table has a better selection, better prices, and better staff. Still, I'll generally stop here only if I'm in need of something quickly or just feel like looking around. If you can wait a few days, it's almost always a good bit less expensive to order whatever you need from Amazon or some other online retailer. read more

You would have be pretty involved in the preparation of food to fully appreciate the awesomeness of this store! They have so much good stuff inside! It's paradise! I've purchased everything from egg pouchers, to kitchen scissors, to spatulas from this store! Although their items tend to be on the more expensive side, their kitchen tools are much more durable. For instance, I've purchased cheap spatulas (see my review for Dave's Supermarket dated Feb 24, 2012), and I've used average brands (e.g. OXO, purchased from Amazon.com). Used daily, the cheap spatula lasted roughly 2 weeks. The few OXO spatulas lasted between 8-10 months. In contrast, the spatula I purchased here, I've used for over a year and a half. I was so impressed, I got a second one for my mom! The quality easily justifies the price tag and I'm very happy to be cooking with their kitchenware! read more

Every time I go in I always find something to buy. The staff has always either greeted me or acknowledged me. If I had a question they either answered it right away or I waited my turn for an associate. They charge top price for their products but the products are top class. In the back of the store they do have a small clearance section. I received a Kitchen Aid item bought at this store and did not have the recepit. After explaining that I used it once then leaked (the antifreeze in the ice cream maker) they exchanged it for me with out any hassels. The only thing I hate about the place is the parking. Its in a busy shopping plaza with Trader joe's and other stores and parking can be really hard to find at certain times of the day. read more

I'm now hooked on their cooking classes and will for sure be back for more From 6-8:30 and a little beyond we got hands on practice in groups of 4 of 5 cooking: - Seared Scallops w/ Tarragon Butter Sauce - Grilled Salmon and Arugula Salad with Orange and Shaved Fennel - Seafood Saffron Broth (Bouillabaisse) - Pan-roasted tilapia with capers and meyer lemon We got a hand out on all that we covered to take with us and a 10% in-store coupon on anything, including sale items. From all the food we made there was plenty for each person to sample everything that was cooked - I didn't eat dinner and was full when I left. There is a Trader Joes next door as well so if you want you can go buy wine next door and bring it over to drink during class. Chef Ferlotti was amazing! Her personality was wonderful; she was wonderful to work with and be around. Nothing seemed to frazzle her and she answered on and off topic questions knowledgeable and pleasantly. I will definitely look her up on the schedule when I go to sign up for my next class. She was assisted by one other and the director the cooking class program was also there. Now true, this store breaks a lot of Alton Brown's rules (of which, I'm honestly an advocate) no uni-tasking devices!. But honestly, it's so much fun browsing through here! Honeslty--I've never written a review before..but my experience and the amount of money I wasted has pushed me to do this. We took a "couples" cooking class at Sur La Table and it was the WORST experience. The chef was unfriendly and it seemed like this was the last place he wanted to be. It was called "cooking for couples" BUT they split you up into groups of four and each group did a part of the meal. While the people next to us did lobster bisque...my group melted chocolate for the desert. So we paid 75 bucks a person to melt chocolate. We didn't learn anything.. The only saving grace was that you could bring wine. To add insult to injury..while the food was cooking the chef goes "ok..now go buy stuff in our store". So for Christmas I got my husband a night out melting chocolate followed by browsing an expensive cooking store. After being in Paris and eating the real thing, you would want to know how they make them also because they are very tasty when done right! the class was 3 hours long, so make sure you have a good attention span. Attended a cooking class on Grilling secrets. The class wasn't that focused on grilling...in fact it was more focused on using grill pans. The recipes we made were delicious..no doubt about that. But compared to past Viking cooking school classes, Sur La table could improve their cooking class experience by 1) giving students a branded apron (it was a generic, all-white apron) and 2) using actually grills and/or educating students on more grilling techniques...I.e. Charcoal, direct vs indirect, etc. Nonetheless, the instructor Michael was very knowledgeable and made it fun. read more

Terrible experience with the kids cooking class. Description claimed it was a two hour class where we would make cupcakes Rice Krispy treats and cookies. WE didn't make anything all we got to do was decorate the stuff they had already premade. The staff was rude and when my son burnt himself on a hot pan they put right in front of him they ignored it not even offering a first aid kit. It was a kids class! Then our cookies were burnt the cupcakes are like rocks and the class was over in less than an hour. Do not suggest anyone pay that much to decorate premade crap. read more

Don't get me wrong, I love cool kitchen stores like Sur La Table, Williams Sonoma, and Crate & Barrel. But this particular Sur La Table is as low as it can get in terms of customer service. Each time I visited this store, I was always left feeling somewhat upset and disappointed because of the people who work there. The clerks are condescending, rude and unfriendly. And they have no problem thinking that the busier they get, that they can treat you even more rudely. If you think you will get any helpful, friendly answers back to your questions, forget it. For instance, I was shopping for a spatula, and asked one of the clerks which one she would recommend. She practically barked back at me with "oh hon, that's your personal preference." Helpful much? And "oh Hun?" More recently, I called the store to ask if they had a particular item in stock. Instead of taking less than a minute to check their inventory, I was put on hold more than four times by a couple of clerks, and one of whom (Nancy) rudely hung up on me while I was asking her to put it on hold. She literally hung up on me while I was still talking!! When I called back and made it clear that I was not happy that she hung up on me, she did not bother apologizing or changing her attitude. Other workers there are all similar in their rudeness and bad attitudes. Sure, Sur La Table has tons of cool kitchen things, but this is not the only kitchen store around here. I'd rather spend my money else where, because when I shop, I expect friendly service, rather than being hung up on, barked at, or being sarcastically "oh Hun"-ed at. read more

While the people running our cooking class did their best and were fun and friendly, they were not equipped by Sur la Table to succeed. Apparently the recipe we were following for one of the items on the menu, had not worked the 4 other times they'd held this particular class. And, as predicted, the recipe didn't work in our class either. They even had store-bought back-ups of this item on hand, knowing their Sur la Table corporate recipe wouldn't work. Several of the people in my class, including myself, had taken the class specifically to learn how to make this item, so that was pretty frustrating. We also didn't have the right instructor for the class. That person couldn't be there, so a pastry chef led the class. She was nice and like I said, she really did her best, but what we were making was not her area of expertise so she wasn't able to teach us a lot about it. I will say, the food we made (except for the failed item) was delicious. But overall, we were disappointed by the class experience and felt it wasn't worth the price. read more
