As a parent, what do you look for in a martial-arts school? We searched for a school that could connect with our overly-energetic three-year-old son, Nick. He was certainly nervous when he got out on the mat, unsure of why the uniforms and the world of supportive discipline he was placed in. Nick was a typical three-year-old, always having difficulty with basic prompts and just staying still: all part of what makes three-year-olds so much fun and yet so challenging. Nick began in the "Dynomites" program, which is tailored specifically to not only new students, but in the 3-6 years age range. A lot of therapeutic approaches are clearly applied in the Dynomites program. There's attention to gross as well as fine motor skills. There's positive behavioral support that is driven by compassionate instructors who truly honor the martial arts by how the so selflessly give to each and every student. There's a constant stream of positive energy that bolsters confidence and an "I can do this" attitude. Nick began to develop before our eyes. He learned the importance of following instructions, and he thrived on the support he received to get there. He learned the value of "yes m'am," and "yes sir." Nick connected to the professionalism of the school, the amazing support staff - most of which are young students themselves who have taken on leadership roles in the fantastic school. Let me add that we pass at least a half-dozen karate schools on our way to Superstar, three of which are within walking distance in our small town of Bartlett, Illinois. It's now been two and one-half years that we've been with the Superstar family. Nick recently reached his black -striped belt, demonstrating his hard work and time invested, and has now moved up to a new class of students at Superstar Karate. This dojo is only out for one thing, making money. Have a question about something karate related? Don't expect a response back if you text or email unless you're new and wanting to sign up for karate. The sensei constantly brags about his accomplishments and shows off his 'skills'. During a graduation he had one group do a performance and then after they finished he said 'this is how it's supposed to look' and then performed it himself. Great way to make the kids feel bad. The dojo also is constantly closed without offering refunds but he says you can come another day even though some kids and parents might not be able to come another day. The sensei doesn't do what he tells the kids they need to do. For example; being honest, he constantly lies (which my child pointed out to me), being punctual, he will show up late to things or have them start late, and more. Additionally, he has these raffles where the kids have to do certain things and there's always things like leaving reviews on yelp, Google, and Facebook. People should review places because they want to, not for the chance to win a prize.. He also shows extreme favoritism towards certain students. This dojo has ruined karate for my kid. read more

By June 2018 he was invited to be a member of the Leadership Team, which additionally augmented his self development. Can I just scream excellence!? We scored an awesome cyber Monday deal for this location, for 6 week trial courses. My daughter is in the "dino-mites" class, which is such a joy to watch all the children participating. From focus, to excercise - these courses are such a benefit for any age. I even went out of my way to write this review. The customer service, and staff is outstanding and VERY welcoming. Quick response, and super informative. My daughter even got a fantastic and rewarding video of her breaking the wood. She feels so powerful, as if she can do anything. Too awesome. We are so glad we found this karate location. This is our first activity we decided to put our 3 year old in, and we do not regret it one bit. One of the best decisions we've made for her! We even drive almost 20 minutes for this place. There is so much to be gained studying martial arts: physical agility, flexibility, discipline, integrity, courtesy, respect just to name a few. I have been an adult student there for 3 years now. I agreed to study martial arts really not knowing what to expect. Over the 3 years I have experienced and witnessed students develop mental, physical and emotional growth. The bond we all share at thsi studio is uplifting to say the least. We are a family and it is wonderful. I have spoken to other individuals over the years that attend other schools. We love Superstar Karate! We were convinced that our daughter would probably be the "mathlete" in the family, but we signed her up for a six week trial and she started killing it from her first lesson. What we saw greatly impressed us. Students are treated with respect and encouraged through positive affirmation. Every week there is a "mat chat" where the students learn valuable life lessons for personal development. Each season there are "missions" to encourage personal and community development. There are a lot of female students and teachers, which is great because we wanted our daughter to see and learn from women in martial arts. This is a cool place. The environment is positive and supportive. Part of their philosophy includes character building which is important for overall development. Students have the opportunity to meet performance and personal goals to earn awards and special recognition at graduations. I really like that they offer parent night out events. We did a 12 class trial with our 3 year old daughter and she loved it! She was in the dynamite class for the younger kids. The instructors were great. They are all friendly, have high energy, and seem to have fun with the kids. My daughter even got a post card in the mail each week giving her positive feedback on her performance during the classes. We got a really great deal on the trial during a grand re-opening sale. It was only $10 for 12 classes twice a week and you get a free uniform that is yours to keep after the session is up. Check out the facebook page because they seem to always have some sale going on for a trial. If you do sign a contract with them I believe you can do month to month and have a grace period to cancel. read more

As a student at this school you not only get great martial arts training, but also well rounded life skills that penetrate other areas of life - respect, confidence, leadership and self control being just a few, in a manner that is fun and enjoyable. Amazing amazing amazing!!!! This is not just a martial arts class but a positive place for your child to excel and develop into a positive adult. It's martial arts while preparing your child for real life issues. The staff is phenomenal and every student is made to feel like a super star from the minute they walk in. I have never walked in without my daughter being acknowledged by anything less than a hello...usually it's a high five :) These people boost your child into wanting to be the best they can be. We even had my daughters birthday party here. Parents thanked me and said it was one of the best kid parties they have attended!!! When my daughter struggles they have no problem asking if we can stay a little bit for some one on one help. They truly care and really want your child to be the best they can be. I cannot say enough about all of the staff and instructors at Superstar Karate. My son is almost 12 years old. He attended a different school for 4 years and received a black belt in TKD. It was a long 4 years & he did not like going. After he received his 1st degree black belt, he vowed to never do martial arts again. Fast forward a couple of years, I knew he needed martial arts in his life for many reasons, but mainly for focus. I did a lot of research, and based on my correspondence with Superstar, we decided to try them out. It took a lot of persuading to get my son to even try one class. We had to assure him that if he didn't like it, he wouldn't have to go. What a breath of fresh air Superstar Karate was! We could immediately see the instructors teach with encouragement, where at his other school, they taught by punishment (taking belts away, sitting out etc). We were so pleasantly surprised when he agreed to to the 6 week trial and thrilled, and a bit shocked, when he decided to join (you had to have seen how he was on class days at the other school to truly understand why). One of the many things I love is that it's not just about forms, kicks and punches. Every class has a "mat chat" where wonderful life lessons are taught.
