I appreciate the fact that I can bring his name up to my son, and he straightens up his behavior right away. It's scary how well that works. Plus, my kids love Taekwondo. They enjoy their classes and the challenges that are presented to them. Especially during these last 2 years, my kids have really embraced it. It has given them confidence and kept them focused on different activities outside of Taekwondo as well. They have learned to approach problems in a better way. I appreciate the discipline it brings out of them and can see an overall improvement to how they approach Taekwondo now versus when they first joined. Instructor Irina is amazing with them. She has worked with them long enough to know what areas need improvement and focuses on that. This definitely is not an easy task, especially on Zoom. The instructors are so supportive and don't treat women as fragile flowers who are just there for show. I am treated as an equal and as a "warrior." When we say warrior it's less about the idea of a physical warrior and more about being a mental warrior. We fight within ourselves to believe that we can do something and our classmates are there to make sure we know we can. This school isn't as "pretty" as others nor will you get a black belt in 12 months. However, that just goes to show that they're more concerned about the quality of their teaching. If any dojo tells you you can get a black belt in 12 months or even 2 years you should run away and run straight to Powell's Way of Kenpo. They are serious about their instruction and don't take belt testing lightly. When you get your belt, it's because you worked hard for it by learning and perfecting techniques and not because you've been there for a set amount of time. As for teaching the kids, it couldn't be better. They are patient, calm, and give the kids individual attention. They try to make everyone feel included while also instilling valuable skills such as discipline, focus, and the idea that there are no mistakes just things you need to work on. All of the kids love it there and I think they would stay there all day if they could. Definitely give Powell's Way of Kenpo a try if you or your child are considering martial arts!
