Cobra roll element as viewed from the boardwalk

TOP 10 STEEL COASTERS - #9 ______________________ Is it a bird, a plane, or is it the world's tallest floorless coaster**? Don't be silly, it's neither of the first two things. Obviously. Iron Rattler might be Fiesta Texas' flagship coaster, but SKC is a close second. This is one of the BEST steel looping coasters I've ever been on, and I got a chance to ride in both the front and back rows. It soars through 6 inversions over its 2 minute 35 second ride time, including a first drop that reaches the coaster's top speed of 70mph. Being located so close to the park's perimeter was all part of Boliger & Mabillard's custom layout, utilizing the nearby quarry wall for full effect. Both the turnaround after the lift hill (immediately preceding the first drop) and the helix between the vertical loop and zero-g-roll extend over the quarry wall, a unique and very thrilling feature. ~Special elements~ *145-foot vertical loop; held record for world's tallest inversion until 2013 *Righthand helix over the quarry wall *Zero-g-roll *Cobra roll *Interlocking corkscrews Normal operation is 3 trains of 32 riders per train (4 across in 8 rows), so 96 people per cycle. This allows operators to quickly crank through guests on busier days. My dad and I noted that operators were NOT being diligent in filling empty seats, particularly when only two people were seated in a given row. Typical protocol is to ask "2? Need 2?" and use hand signals to try and fill the remaining seats, but they didn't care. This is something Cedar Point does wonderfully but Six Flags could do to improve. Overall, a spectacular ride that should be ridden in the front on the far right side for maximum effect. One of the better custom looping coasters in the country, in my opinion. ** - Technically, Griffon and ShieKra (at Busch Gardens Williamsburg and BG Tampa, respectively) are taller and have floorless coaster trains, but they're considered B&M 'dive machines' and are categorized separately from this sit-down. And now you know :)

Six Flags Fiesta Texas - Boomerang

Six Flags Fiesta Texas

Six Flags Over Texas is easily one of the more visually unique parks in the chain …read more The setting really stands out - it's built against a quarry wall, which gives it a cool backdrop you don't see at most theme parks. I also loved the consistent Hispanic/fiesta-style theming throughout the park. It adds a fun, vibrant energy that makes the whole place feel lively and different. Getting into the park was surprisingly smooth and fast, which is always a great way to start the day. Once inside, the atmosphere is super energetic with lots going on, but be ready for crowds - especially on busy days. A couple things to plan for: parking is pretty expensive ($39 for general and $55 for premier), so keep that in mind when budgeting your trip. Also, the Texas heat is no joke, so definitely come prepared with water, sunscreen, and maybe a game plan to stay cool. Overall, it's a fun, high-energy park with a unique look and vibe. If you can handle the heat and crowds, it's a great place to spend the day.

I don't know why the low ratings. The membership to get in free here (and the water park here) any…read moreday the parks are open is only $8 a month. $8 a month! Maybe it's just me, a single mom of 3 who just moved here from California, but that is a darn good price! Not to mention- my little family of 4 gets into a whole bunch of other parks for free too- including Schlitterbahn! Yes, Texas gets HOT, but there are plenty of places to sit inside with some ac. There are two things I would do to improve the park- better food for the meal plan and more shaded areas outside. But still...$8 a month means I'm giving this park a 5. Lastly, there's rides for all ages. So that is awesome too.

Batman: The Ride

This was one of the first 4D coaster at the park and is a clone across all of the other Six Flags…read morepark. The ride entrance can be confusing as it blends within the shops. The theme inside is cool and operations do run pretty fast. The ride experience is different and I ended up flipping around 3 times here. Overall, it is a good ride.

New and exciting? Yes. Cutting-edge, '4D', and "first of…read moreits kind"? Hardly. Six Flags touted their most recent installation of a Batman themed roller coaster as being unlike anything else anywhere on the planet [more on that later]. What makes this ride unique is that you're situated on either side of the track, not above or below it. At certain points along the (short) course, magnetic kickers induce rotation which provides riders with 6 or more flips per go. Each 2-person car is free to rotate on its axis, completely independent of the other car's motion, so in a sense every ride is different. But because I'm a roller coaster enthusiast, I know that nothing at all makes this coaster '4D', like the promotional materials state. The track layout is planar and the cars only have uniaxial rotation........so where do the other 'D's' come into play? Also, this isn't the first of its kind, since coaster manufacturer Intamin has 3 of these 'freespin' models scattered around the world and 1 in California. There's essentially nothing new or ground-breaking with this variant of Batman: The Ride, even though Six Flags marketing states otherwise. Don't buy into their nonsense propaganda!! That being said, it's a fairly intense ride, great for teens and adrenaline junkies like yours truly. Riding this was one of the ONLY times I've ever had to remove my sunglasses, for fear of having them knocked off my head from the jarring motions. The elevator-style lift was enjoyable, and the randomness of the rotations keeps you on your toes. As luck would have it, I wound up oriented noggin-first during the coaster's biggest drop, so all the blood rushed straight to my head. That was pretty wild. Few people will notice, but early on in the queue line is an indoor area with various Batman stuff, among them a legit hologram of the coaster car. It was one of the only times I saw ride theming at SFFT, and the refined hologram was a very sleek touch. The Batmobile was nice and shiny, too. Definitely worth a ride on your trip to Fiesta Texas. Just don't go into it thinking that it's the only one of its kind in the world, cuz, well......it's not.
