I initially rented a 10'x14' unit in 2015 for $120/month to store my daughter's college apartment furniture after she graduated from undergrad. At that time, the company was Hartland Self Storage and they were alright to deal with - I had one rent increase of $18/month between 2015 and 2019. Sometime around the beginning of 2020, I believe, they came under new ownership And became Superior Storage, which is when things went bad. In January 2020, my monthly rate was increased to $149, an 8% increase. In January 2021, my monthly rate was increased to $163, a 9.4% increase.
Six months later in July 2021, my monthly rate was increased to $179, a 9.8% increase, (which, when annualized, equated to an increase of 19.6%). On Friday, I was told my rent is being increased to $197 on April 1st. Not sure what I've gotten for the extra money I've paid, because everything looks pretty much the same. I'm also nit sure what the story is with the owners because they never responded to my questions regarding the rent increases. I would have already been out of there by now but my second daughter moved home in The fall of 2021, so I'll be looking elsewhere. If you were considering this place, you may want to look elsewhere, too. read more
