Inground pools...it'll be easy, I can handle anything. WOW, was I wrong! Be very careful when choosing pool contractors! My original pool contractor left me with a huge hole in my yard and stole over $20,000 from me. I was so lost on how to even continue my dream of having a inground pool for myself and my daughter I almost gave up. Then we met Peter with Superior Pools! He literally SAVED us! Peter was so understanding and patient with all of my questions and worries. His knowledge of the industry was very reassuring and gave me hope to have an incredible outcome. I had a good experience with the build and enjoyed the pool for several years. I had several tiles fall off and was told they just didn't have enough adhesive. Fixed them. Several more tiles have fallen off and Superior's team advised that the tile was installed incorrectly which not only caused tile issues but has also caused issues with the coping. Now I have to replace all the tile and coping. Superior's response..Not our problem. This pool is not under warranty...even though their installation was faulty. I would not recommend them any longer. read more

We are having a terrible time getting anyone to respond to us, emails go unreturned for weeks at a time, phone calls are ignored. We started our dig the first week in July 2022 and there has been delay upon delay. Even after speaking with the owner did not help. The superintendent working on our pool told us that we can complain all we want but no one will care. It is January 2023 and our pool is still not done. No one will respond to us to let us know when the final things will be done. We've gone without a back yard for 6 months and were told 3 months max. Update 1/10/2021 Superior has corrected the issues that were found after construction completed. The owner showed up personally and made assurances to make things right. I would be remiss if I didn't say that COVID has doubled (maybe tripled) their business. So, getting a pool installed will take some time. It's not going to happen in the typical timeline. That said, Superior did deliver on their promises. My only recommendation is to communicate better with your customers. Do a better job of expectation setting. This company makes deadlines and not meet them 2). They make mistakes during the installation of the process and then expect you the customer to pay for their mistake ie (Duke Energy) 3). They do not clean your property after their work 4). The staff beginning with the owner( Peter) of the company is very unprofessional. We were sorry we contracted superior pools to built our pool . They had a nice looking web site and good reviews , but our experience with them was disappointing. Poor quality and took 8 months to finish pool. Origional defeats from construction were never fixed ( skimmer that was broken crushed by bobcat) travertine tile that was cracked and spacing too far apart in sections. Lighting does not work and keeps blowing fuses. If was stressful and frustrating using this company. Permit wasn't done for footing foundation and was never inspected , was done poorly. Travertine decking has become unlevel, has cracked and broken, looks terrible after just two years. read more

The name of this company says it all!!! They truly are SUPERIOR! I have to admit, I was prepared for a nightmare in regards to the possibility for poor communication, slow progress etc. Why? Because everyone that I spoke with who has gone through the process of having a pool built shared horror stories. Not us! Our project manager Ian was top notch. He treated the project as if it were his very own pool. Whenever I had any concerns, he was just a phone call away. He kept our minds at ease the entire project. We never had to guess what the next step would be. Ian walked us through every step. Any morning work was scheduled, he'd shoot us a message to prepare us. He even gave us suggestions on designs. We also had a wonderful experience with Kathy (Superior's showroom representative). It was quite overwhelming in regards to making selections; there are soooo many options. Kathy was so patient with us, and she offered her professional opinion as well. In the end, we have a beautiful pool. We couldn't be happier. We were rest assured we are getting highest quality product by the lifetime warranty on the pool shell and other components which only few companies are confident to offer such guarantees. On the other hand, this team build so many pools a months, are experts at what they do and while very busy, always make themselves available to address questions. Ralph the lead designer is probably one of the best designers you will meet. He lived and built pools everywhere including CA and taught many pool design classes. Kathy and John(s) are the hardest working folks and know how to get it done. What is also important that the owner Peter is accessible and kudos for such a good company. Our site manager(Ian) was receptive to changes and has responded to all of my calls since the pool has been completed. Our Pool is complete and looks fantastic!!! We signed a contract for a concrete pool in early spring and the pool was installed by the end of July!! It was our first pool and we were very anxious throughout as the building of a pool is quite a construction project and we did not anticipate the amount of work that went into the installation. From "Layout" to "Dig" to "Pool School" The Superior Team managed everything and did an excellent job in keeping us informed as to what we could expect, when various contractors would arrive and what work they would be performing. Ian, their construction manager did a fantastic job of answering our questions, helping us with various decisions we needed to make (ground layout, concrete decking, etc.), and with great patience guiding us through the process. Financially, there were no surprises. All charges were discussed in advance and understood and agreed by both parties and the project came in as budgeted. When the pool was completed Superior ensured that they had their "Start Up" team out to service the pool and ensure their was chemical balance, and smooth operations. They provided us with brushes and skimmers, etc., and the project was essentially "Turn Key". They trained us in operations of the various equipment, maintenance of the skimmers and filters, operation of the salt delineator and provided a list of chemicals and optimal measurements. After interviewing a few pool builders, we did not feel that we found the company we wanted to hire for the job. A colleague of mine recommended Superior Pools and told me that both she and her brother used Superior for their pools and highly recommended the company. I gave them a call and Peter, the owner, chatted with me for a while about what we were looking to accomplish with this project. He came out to our house to see the site and we discussed the project at great length there. We felt he was honest and upfront about the entire project and that he offered a wealth of knowledge and design ideas to truly transform our vision into a reality. Peter invited us to his facility in Cornelius where we saw the different material options for constriction. Peter sat down with us there and helped us select everything from the Pebble Tec interior, to the stone and travertine. The building process was flawless and well-orchestrated. We had a great project manager, Tim, who was always happy to answer questions and keep us well informed. He FaceTime'd me while I was away in New York to show me the progress that took place during the trip! The crew was always courteous of our space and truly did a remarkable job! We have had nothing but compliments on how beautiful the finished product is. Our back yard went from being a piece of grass to a resort-style retreat. Upon the completion of our project, we were given "pool school". A Superior representative came out to our home to teach us how to use the interactive mobile app to control the pool's functions, how to balance chemicals and how to properly care for and maintain our pool. We opted to hire Superior for the weekly maintenance and it has been just as great as the initial build itself. We came to Superior Pools & Spa in Cornelius, NC, last fall and asked them to help us reconnect with our sloping, tree-filled backyard and turn it into an "oasis" where we could relax, enjoy and entertain. Peter Johnson and his staff more than exceeded our expectations! They created a work of art, a true architectural masterpiece. We now walk out on the deck of our gunite pool and hot tub/spa and are simply amazed at what they created. The workmanship in the stone is stunning, and it simply takes your breath away. We ask ourselves "Why didn't we do this sooner?" Now we regularly spend our afternoons swimming, and our evenings relaxing to the sound of gentle waterfall and the visual of blue lights from the pool. Along with our ground lights and landscaping it is a perfect ambiance. Several nights we've even fallen asleep outside on the deck in our patio chairs listening to soft music! We spoke with three pool companies prior to making the decision to go with Superior Pools. We liked Peter right away and felt he would be great to work with given his enthusiasm and professionalism. Once the process began, Peter walked us through a potential design of the pool. We tweaked a few minor things, moving the hot tub/spa, to a different area. Peter was more than open to the change, eager to work to the project that WE wanted. His staff helped us pick out some great stone and tiles and pebble tech (interior flooring and siding) for the pool. The contractor, Jim, then executed the plan to perfection. During the process, Superior Pools was always there to answer questions promptly and address any minor changes that needed to be made along the way in terms of leveling our backyard. They were always courteous and helpful and the pool, which we broke ground on in late December, was finished by April -- in plenty of time for the warm weather -- despite a very rainy winter and spring. We are so thrilled with the beautiful oasis that Superior Pools and Spa created and the workmanship is second to none. We could not be any happier with the work. Before we hired Superior Pools, I interviewed about four local pool companies and probably called another three that didn't return calls. We were really impressed by everything we saw -- Superior's work looked simply stunning -- and their prices were very reasonable. We signed a contract and paid a deposit on a pool and spa on October 31, 2020, and had been told to plan for a February/March installation date. It's now May 17, 2021, and we still don't have any update from the owner (Peter), despite calling, texting and emailing every week (sometimes five times a week) since early February 2021. We really liked the salesperson (Forrest) who we first worked with but he no longer covers the Raleigh market and we've been told that Peter is our only point of contact now. I know the pandemic is causing all kinds of delays so I called Latham Pools (the manufacturer) directly and was told that their longest production delay has been 32 weeks but most of their pools/spas have been on a 16-week deliver timeline. Superior has had our money for 28 weeks so if they ordered our pool and spa when they said they would, we should have had some update from them by now. We haven't even received the "free/complementary 3D design" that they advertise and that we need for our Architectural Review Board. We have filed a complaint with the BBB, asking for some communication. At this point, I would not recommend them. read more

If you value your money, go with another company. They made huge mistakes with the install of my pool, and didn't meet anywhere close to the deadline. They had to landscape my yard 3 times before the grade didn't run rain water directly into the pool. They also crushed the drain pipe they installed, which caused the drainage to fail when it rained, thus dumping mud into my pools. For weeks. Took them over 2 months to clean it and resolve. Hit 13 trees with a piece of equipment several times causing them to have to be professionally cut down. Owner doesn't care. Now that it is finished, I have been waiting over 10 weeks to get repairs done on my decking that is covered within my warranty. No one will call me back. No one cares. Seriously, go somewhere else. read more

We had Superior Pool & Spa come out to look at and estimate the renovation of a large Pebble Tec pool at a house we purchased in Davidson. They came out and shared some ideas, but didn't follow up. I've chased and chased Superior Pools over the past 2 weeks, literally calling seven (7) times on seven different days, talking to the reception each time and she took my name and number, verified and pulled up the house on the computer and said Craig or Eric would call me back. No one ever did at any time, until the 7th message. Craig called me and said he would talk to Eric and get back with me. That was last week and I never heard from anyone. So I called the office and left a message at the office and called Craig on his cell yesterday morning. No one called me back again. So I called again today and someone called back while I was another line, but left no voice mail. So I called the office again and the receptionist who apologized very professionally with each and every call, gave me the managers e-mail and said to try and communicate that way. Really? I sent a note and have been persistent because my wife indicated she felt like Superior seemed to know what you were doing the best. So I kept trying and told them there would not be a 9th attempt. I got an e-mail saying to call back. That's it. I sent a reply e-mail saying, I've decided to give the job to LKN Pool & Spa, where Bob the owner called me back with an hour of leaving him a message today and committed to getting the Pebble Tec chip out and reinstall new Pebble Tec with Landon Pool Plastering, change out and add whatever lights, pumps, salt water systems, etc. they have to in order to get the pool updated and running by September 1st. I'm not sure where the ball was dropped at Superior Pool & Spa. I'll just chalk it up to a little temporary dysfunction, a bad service rep or an indifferent manager, which I understand happens in the trades. I just don't like it when it happens to me. Especially after all the effort I put into working with them. My advice is to call someone else. read more

DO NOT use these pool contractors...Superior pools installed a basic freeform pool and concrete deck behind our new construction home. We had multiple issues (incorrect depth, improperly installed skimmer, an overflow spout that was set too low - they tried to repair this by putting a wine cork in the hole so there was no drainage, and several more issues) that were eventually resolved while we still had the final payment left to pay. Within a couple months after our final payment was made we started to have issue with the concrete sinking. We were told multiple times that they were sending someone out for repair. They have agreed there is an issue but have not repaired, it's been over a year. We will have to get an attorney involved as they obviously do not stand behind there work. read more

Superior pools and spas have given me the worst service I've ever had. I've had them come out a few times to clean my pools. First time wasn't so good so I figured I'd give them another try. Every time they leave I go out and check my pool, still dirty. Doesn't even look like they did anything. I've tried getting in contact with them. It's like they don't know how to answer the phone. I had another company come out and they told me my pools chlorine was a level 9!! It should be no more than 4. I've talked to Craig a couple times and he seems like he doesn't know what he is talking about. Don't waste your time and money on this company. Never been so disappointed. read more

We contacted Superior Pools to come out and give us a quote on a new pool. The owner arrived and had to borrow a measuring tape from us to get the area of the back yard to come up with a plan. He said he would be back with us within a week with some ideas. That was over a month ago. Very poor business when you will not follow up on what you promise or even provide a quote.
