I've been a customer for over 10 years. The first 8 years were great, but the past 2 years have been terrible. It seems like the company went through a merger or buyout, and since then the service has gone downhill. I called multiple times about a propane delivery that was promised but never came. The new agents who answer the phone seem so used to complaints that they just say whatever they need to get you off the phone. This is the first time in more than 10 years that I've ever run out of propane, and it happened because of the company's new management structure or whatever changes have been made. Over the course of 2 weeks, I spoke with 4 different agents and asked each of them to have a manager or supervisor call me back. I never received a single call. After being a loyal customer for 13 years, I am extremely disappointed in the way Superior Propane Plus handled a serious and time-sensitive situation. While I was out of state, my home ran completely out of propane. I did not realize the tank was that low, and once notified, I immediately contacted Superior Propane Plus to request an emergency refill. This was not a minor inconvenience--it directly affected two elderly individuals living in my home. My 75-year-old mother, who has health issues, lives in the basement. My 78-year-old mother-in-law, who recently underwent a kidney transplant in March, is recovering here as well and is currently receiving in-home care from occupational therapists, physical therapists, and home health nurses. Heat is not optional in this situation--it is a basic necessity. Despite explaining all of this in detail, I was told that no expedited delivery would be made and that the earliest refill would be 10 to 14 days out. This was said while outside temperatures are in the 30s, and the interior of my home was already dropping into the 50s. What is most troubling is not just the delay, but the complete lack of urgency or concern given the circumstances and my long history as a customer. There was no attempt to prioritize the delivery, no escalation, and no reasonable accommodation offered. After more than a decade of loyalty, I expected significantly better service--especially in a situation involving elderly, medically vulnerable individuals and the loss of heat. This experience has made it clear that customer tenure and safety are not treated as priorities. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Superior Propane Plus. read more

you are all liars. all of you. I have filed a consumer complaint with the Virginia Dept of Agriculture and Consumer Services. I have had enough. You all should be jailed. I waited 2 months for fuel that never came. Then on 3/23/26 a delivery guy showed up at my home and thank goodness I was there as he shared he was at my home to give me some propane. I stopped him as I had a new propane supplier so he put in a ticket to have my empty tank picked up. So 4/23/26 I called back and was told that the woman in charge of tank pickup was using a third party and she could not get to me last week. No one showed no one will show this week. That is why this half asses company will answer to the VDACS. While holding the rep is still telling you to jerp your driveway and path to the tank clear. I told them I will advise my attorney to bill Superior for the use of my land as their personal 90 storage center. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. The rental on my propane tank went from $20 per year to $200 per year. That a 1000% increase with no notice at all! I cancelled my account and told them to come get their tank. It's been I month since I told them that and the tank is still here. I have had this tank since 2003. I should own it by now! Annual rental began at $75 plus tax which made it $84.80. I called in 2023 and said that after 20 years, I should own the tank. They reduced the rent to $20 plus tax. All was fine until I received the bill for 2026 this is for $190 plus tax for a total of $201.40. This is insanity. read more

Even more concerning, today I received my first annual tank rental bill from Superior Plus for $200. For years, our rental cost has been $48. A 300% increase is unreasonable. The bill also stated that our account is "inactive," yet your records clearly show a delivery last month. When I called, I was told that the $200 charge is simply the new rental rate. I'm extremely disappointed by this sudden and drastic price increase. Superior Plus Propane has completely lost their ability to serve their customers across all access of the business (delivery, billing, customer service, etc.) this winter 2025-2026. I have been a customer for over exegetical years and was very satisfied with SPP. this has changed this year. Customer service is no longer a local office but routed to phones around the country. Wait times are over an hour. Representatives are unable or incapable to resolve issue. Employee attitudes lack pride or customer care. Deliveries are not happening and minimal or zero effort is being demonstrated by changing drivers. I am seeing many reviews like mine so this is not a rare but rather common experience of this company not able to run properly. I have little choice other than to seek another provider. read more

On autofill, they let my tank run out. Do not trust them to monitor your tank. When it gets cold it take a long time on hold to get through to somebody who pretty much tells you to call back when you are out of propane. read more

Currently on hold for 1 hour and 5 minutes. At 5% propane. A week ago had check for gas smell and cleared. Website says unsafe so cannot request delivery using app (not that that works). So on hold. I get it it's been super cold for a long time. That doesn't excuse inaccurate report of conditions and for 3 months I've had to call and request delivery despite their "upgraded" monitoring system. I want to believe they are doing their best I'm just not sure their best is adequate or accurate for the prices charged. I placed an order for propane 9 days before this last storm, and have now been waiting for ONE MONTH!! The second time they tried to blame me because they showed up unannounced on a Sunday morning 7:30 in the middle of a snowstorm. Customer service is the worst. We're on autofill and been calling for 3 weeks to send someone out to refill our tank. No one has showed up. I previously had Quarles in Fredricksburg VA, service was great, I could always get through on the phone in a few minutes and delivery would be about two days later. Superior Propane bought Quarles and things have gone down hill. I called on January 6 for a delivery, was on hold for 1 hour and 58 minutes, no delivery yet. I called this morning and was on hold for 45 minutes. The rep was excellent, apologized for the wait time and said I will get a delivery tomorrow...we'll see. I've been a customer for 5 years and paid $50.04 for tank rental every year. This year, without any explaination, my rental fee for my tank (the smallest one they offer) went up to over $200.00. Called the local office, agent just said it was just change in company policy, nothing she could do, did I want the tank to be picked up. By her attitude this seems to be the conversation she has a lot. Called 'corporate' to get more info, just the same. Sorry- 'new' company policy, do you want us to pick it up? We've been customers for four years. They started off fine, but over time their service has completely collapsed. What we've experienced recently is, without question, the worst customer service I've ever dealt with. We ordered propane almost four weeks ago. At the time of ordering, we were explicitly told it would be delivered within 10 days. That was a lie. We are still waiting. It is currently 15 degrees, we are dealing with below freezing temperatures , and we do not have propane. When we call to ask where our delivery is, we're told there is no schedule, no timeline, and that it will "get there when it gets there." That is not an answer--especially when you're responsible for keeping people's homes heated in winter - and having use of hot water. There is a complete lack of planning, communication, accountability, and basic human concern. No proactive updates. No ownership. No urgency. Just shrugging and excuses while customers are left in dangerous conditions. If you're considering Superior Plus Propane, understand this: when you actually need them, they may not show up--and they won't care. Even though I get propane twice a year, EVERY YEAR, they decided my AUTOMATIC was once a year. The worst propane service I have ever experienced. Have been on autofill for years and have been without propane (and heat, hot water, cooking) for 4 days. Calls to customer service are on hold for over an hour. No straight answers given on when we will receive a delivery. "Truck has been dispatched" has been the response for the last 2 days. Last encounter with customer service resulted in the company hanging up on us when we kept it professional. You can only use weather as an excuse for so long, now it is gross incompetence. Awful. Superior Plus came in and bought out Quarles Propane. We had great service with Quarles for years. Whenever I called the office, I would quickly get a pleasant woman on the phone who was helpful. Whenever we requested a propane delivery, the truck would show up in just a day or a few days. Now, you call Superior Plus and you're on hold for 30 minutes or more, listening to the hold music and the recorded voice telling you to use their website and set up automated delivery. And, when you do request a delivery, it takes at a minimum two weeks for them to get out there, if not longer. Their recorded hold message says to request a delivery when your tank gets to 30%, because they know it's going to take them that long to get to you. Fortunately for us, we own our tank, so I'm going to shop around, because Superior Plus's customer service is terrible. They've ruined what Quarles previously had. read more

One of the worst service providers. Supposedly I am 'high priority' but they refuse to provide a timeline, plan, or even consider when I will get a fill. Temps are down, dropping to the red. I even tried to get a fill nearly a week before inclement weather. So now I pay the most, for the worst service. I think we rent the tank from them... but I am interested in just having them pull it out and get a new tank. For sure people need to raise these issues to the BBB and the Virginia Attorney General (Consumer Protection). read more

Getting actual help is all but impossible. They don't read the delivery tickets and consistently deliver to the in-ground HOUSE tank instead of the SHOP tanks 20 feet in front of them. Have a small LPG leak now in the above-ground tank they just filled, and getting someone to come look at and fix it so I don't lose 97 gallons of propane again has been difficult. read more

They will be happy to install tanks for you but when it's time for a refill, you will be running out. They dont seem to care how low you get or if you run out. Im not sure who to recommend. They have let my underground tank go empty twice. Last time, they came to fill it. They slipped a bill under my door and ran away. They didn't check to see if it is working. Well, I still don't have heat on the coldest day of the year. Forget about the emergency line. You have to be on fire or dead for them to consider it an emergency. This has been the absolute WORST experience. It has taken almost two weeks to get an order filled! And, when we try to call to check on the status I was on hold an hour on each of the three occasions. The third time I was told my delivery date had been removed. And, no one bothered to communicate the change. When I asked for a manager I was hung up on and when I called back, I was told it would be 5-7 business days before I would get a call. All of their stores are no longer open to the public and no one from "dispatch " is available to speak to a customer! There is NO customer service and there is NO accountability!! I've been a Quarles customer since 2008. In that time, their customer service has been exceptional. I never had to call to request deliveries as their system for refilling our propane tank was effective. However, since Superior Plus took over, things have gotten way worse with customer service and deliveries. I've had to call to request delivery when I noticed our tank was under 5 percent full. Case in point. The second time, which was yesterday, my tank went completely empty. No heat. No hot water. No cooking. I called at 3pm and explained that our tank was empty and they stated that my delivery was already scheduled for that day and it should be in the next 1-3 hours. 4 hours later, no delivery. I called again and the office was closed and it connected me to the emergency line. They stated that all trucks were grounded "due to weather" (even though it snowed the day prior, it all melted that day and roads were clear) and there would be no more deliveries. After I had called them 4 hours earlier and explained the situation and being told that I would get a delivery so we would have heat and hot water. So now we spend the night in a cold house and cold showers in the morning. Clearly things have gone south. Reading reviews on Google, Yelp, and BBB, I'm clearly not alone in this. Average of 1 star reviews on every one of these forums says a lot. This is completely unacceptable and am looking at other companies that have more competent customer service. read more

This corporation purchased our once gr a at little Propane company by the name of Freeman Gas. Horrible customer service. We were completely out of gas. Yes, we'd had a storm, but all streets were clear here in Rutherfordton. 75 years old, can't bathe, cook, do dishes, nada. They said they had to be ok'd to go out from the Marion office which was a higher elevation and of course it was colder there and snow wasn't melting. It was as if their drivers aren't bright enough to determine whether a road or a driveway was safe to traverse. We called another local company. Horrible company. Their payment system is a joke. If you are on their budget plan, you have to make payments year round to "fund" your account and if you dont want to pay for heat in july, they will pester you with calls. If you get taken off the budget plan, you must pay the entire balance in full or get late fees added and they will not deliver until balance is payed- but of course they dont mention this. Terrible system for those who generally make partial payments monthly. Do yourself a favor and get an electric furnace instead. read more

Over two days I've waited for Customer Service to actually answer the phone. Each day I stopped after waiting 1.5 hours of being on hold. The invoice had a "Recurring Charge" of $49.00. No explanation of what the charge is for, just a flat out charge for $49.00. Since it's recurring, then it'll happen again. Would strongly suggest that you double check your invoice. They say a ticket is open for delivery. Tuesday I was told we were getting fuel that day.No fuel. When I called today I asked for the corporate phone number and was told there wasn't one! I asked to speak to a manager and was told a written request had to be submitted to speak to one! Another woman at Superior told me they don't deliver after 5pm and that someone has to be home. Unable to get deliveries and nobody is available via telephone unless you are willing to wait on hold for an hour or more.
