Absolutely useless. Their website says you can schedule deliveries around your life. And yet I received a delivery on a day when I explicitly stated I could not be there because I would be at the hospital. The website says they'll do a leak test and ensure all of your appliances are hooked up correctly. The rep on the phone is Sure they wouldn't deliver without doing the leak test... But they didn't check my appliances, because they were in my house. Which was locked Because I was at the hospital and not at home. So nothing works. And no one is calling me back. Dealing with Amerigas is agony. They do not follow through on what is agreed upon. It takes 4 days and hours on hold to get in touch with anyone in billing and then all they do is argue even when they are at fault. Most money grabbing company I have ever dealt with! they purchased the previous supplier of my propane that I had been using for the past 24 years. I received a bill for rental on the tank that I had never been charged for before. they told me that I had to use 240 gallons a year to avoid the rental. I only use propane for my logs I can use is 60 gallons a season that has been the standard for the past 24 years, they will not give any consideration for my low use. stay away from them and find a locally owned propane company to deal with. read more

I only use propane as a backup; therefore, they only need to refill my tank (248 gal.) once a year. I first submitted an order for propane on the 12th Jan. 2026, via their website. I didn't get a response, so on the 14th Jan.2026, I called in so they scheduled a window for delivery on 21- 26th 2026. I received an email on the 25th to say that my delivery had not been scheduled; today, it's Jan. 29th, so I called and spoke with the guy. I was on hold for at least 30 minutes. I kept saying hello to see if he was still there. Finally, he came back to say someone will call me, so not acceptable. I have lost all credibility in this company. Obviously, having problems with the staff/drivers. I am sure it's time to move on. read more

Good morning, on Fourth of July I went to the WaWa on laburnum Avenue.. I bought a propane tank from one of the dispensary machines outside.I attached it to my grill. Long story short, the propane tank is defective. so we called a customer service they told me to take it back up to Wawa. Took it back to Wawa. The manager said it has nothing to do with them. so I had to exchange the new one for another new one for another $25. so the only thing left for me to do is to dispute the first $25 charge with American Express. I am hoping that anyone considering AmeriGas as a propane supplier will consider the reviews. I was a customer for approximately 10 years. (A satisfied customer for 8 of those years.) I was on an automated fuel delivery service and a couple years ago, they started to fill the tank monthly whether I needed the gas or not. This greatly inflated the costs due to haz mat fees and fuel recovery charges (not all propane suppliers charge a fuel recovery fee.). As a result, I shopped around and found that AmeriGas was charging 50% more for tank rental, 100% more for delivery and 25% more for propane. I obviously switched. The final insult was AmeriGas over charged me $300.00 to cancel my service ( I was able to reverse an erroneous $100 dispatch fee but not the tank pick up fee and AmeriGas did not repurchase the fuel in the tank.) I do not recommend AmeriGas. read more

I used Amerigas for over 20 years. The prices were getting ridiculous as well as tank rental, a fee for locking in gas prices, and not delivering when you are on auto delivery. It was very hard to stop the service. I had to deal with a couple people. Never had that problem when I needed to pay a bill! What really PO'd me was I was supposed to get a credit. I just paid the tank rental 3 maybe 4 months ago. Also my tank was full. I paid over $200 for the gas in the tank. They said I would get credited for the gas that was in the tank. I'm sure their policy on the tank rental is "oh lady you are just screwed" But when I got the credit for the gas in the tank it was only $56! Really??? Not only are prices getting out of hand, and they give you a fee for everything they can think of! But they steal from you when returning your credit! I would never refer Amerigas to anyone! They are thieves!! I don't think I'm going to use any gas company in the future. I'd rather go without than give my hard earned money to a thief. Oh and they are making money hand over fist. The people they use for customer service are not in our country so good luck understanding them. I'm sure they pay them pennies to do their job. Amerigas is very dishonest!! Let me start by saying, if you can convert to power, always do so! It's worth the pay, trust me! There's nothing worse than being stuck with a company because changing over from 1 propane company to another takes minimum 1-2 months, don't be stuck like me!!! As a 25 year long customer, I'm going to say I HATE this company. My hot water heater went out so for awhile there I didn't need to refill my propane. Once I was ready to again, it took them TWO MONTHS to get their heads out of their asses to finally come inspect my property, that was already set up with Amerigas for over 20 years now. They informed me that I couldn't get refilled because THEY had installed my tank 2 decades prior too close to my water heater AND a/c so I couldn't get refilled until I paid out of my pocket to fix THEIR mistake. (Funny it wasn't a problem to refill me the year prior with the same setup.) After I jump through hoops of getting a plumber out here to repipe my home, I call customer service and discuss the $350 in tank fees they've been charging me for a tank I couldn't use due to their negligence. They told me they remove all charges and credit me for this year. That would bring my balance to 0 with a $120 or so credit. They sent over a man to relocate my tank. I had already let customer service know that I outsourced and did it myself as I wouldn't be paying THEM to fix their mistake. And yet they still sent over the repairman on my delivery date rather than the man to refill my tank. Guys, after 71 calls, 2 months, I finally got my tank filled. But guess what, the $350 in charges and $120 credit? Nope, my bill is not upwards of $700 for this rape-y service. They will never see a dollar from me, ruin my credit- I don't care. What kind of customer service is this? The office people have NO IDEA what they're doing and that's being too polite cause the incompetence is legit. I've given this company ample opportunity to make right by me. TWO months with no propane AFTER I had already told them numerous times that the problem THEY installed was fixed. THREE times they sent out the wrong tech. I have children- THEY DO NOT CARE! They even tried to schedule me out TWO weeks AFTER the repeated attempts to get filled. Amerigas has been the WORST company I have EVER done business with in my life. My 100 year old grandmother ran out of propane during a snow storm due to their negligence and ability to send a truck with the proper amount to fill the tank. she has been without heat now for over a week with temperatures in the single digits. I have called them more than 10 times and they promise to send someone out and we wait ALL day for no one to show then we call to let them know that the technician did not show up and they act like they never had an order. We are being told now that it could be another 10 days before they can help her! She is 100 years old and blind with NO heat! My Father passed away and I contacted Amerigas to see what I needed to do to close his account. They said they needed his death certificate which I emailed to them. I called them to find out what the delay was and was told it wasn't received and to email it again and that sales would call me within seven days. They individual on the phone said I should call back if I don't hear back from them. I looked on BBB and yelp and found out they don't allow people to come into the office. It seems unfair to place the burden on the customer to wait when they have a location that can view my documentation in real time and resolve this matter. read more

If I could give them 0 stars, it would still be more than they deserve. I have NEVER written a review, much less a negative one, about a company. I believe in resolving it privately but I am left with no other option. I have had issues in the past with AmeriGas and was hopeful this year would be an improvement as I heard they were doing an overhaul on their company/customer service. The tip of the Iceberg was today. Our minimal tank rental amount (to avoid the tank rental fee) has been anywhere from 250-400gal. I call every year to be sure it hasn't changed again and make sure I'm informed. Today they told me that it is now 1,000 gallons/year. DOUBLE our tank capacity. After voicing my concern, confusion, and frustration, I asked what the tank rental fee would be. I was told they would "calculate it" based off of usage, pricing etc. On top of all of that, they also changed their policy and you are no longer able to buy the tank when you decide to leave the company. So they keep the tank, while the customer pays ALL associated labor costs to have it excavated & removed from the property. Only to then have to buy one from another company and pay to start up service. More simply put, they constantly change the rules on minimum annual amount requirements and charge whatever they want as a penalty (again, with no notice or estimate available) and essentially have now handcuffed their customers to the company unless they are willing to pay their price and meet their demands. Sounds more like a criminal than a company if you ask me. read more

Have been trying to get my tank refilled for about 3 weeks. I first went into their online service and noted that my tank was at 30%. I received an email that a refill would be requested. After a week I called and was assured that a refill would be scheduled. Went on vacation and came home. No refill. Called again and was told that an emergency refill would be requested and I would be refilled in 48 hours. Since it was a Thursday afternoon I gave them until Monday afternoon to refill my tank. Guess what.... No refill. I again called Amerigas and was told that it should be by the end of the day or tomorrow. Horrible customer service. Time to look for anoter propane service read more

Nothing but a bunch of LIARS! Reported that I was out of propane and put on an EMERGENCY delivery. Was told I would get a delivery that day. That never happened. Call the next day and 2 days after that only to be told, it would be there in the afternoon. Finally got to talk to someone who took the time to check out what the problem was. He informed me there was NO EMERGENCY delivery in my area and my tank would not be filled until 7 days after I made the first call. I have been a customer since 1971, through all the name changes and other crap, they have tried to stick me with. Who out there has paper work from 1971? Have been a customer for 30 years and have used their tank. We're put on auto refill 2 years ago. Last year 2020, almost ran out of gas and had to make numerous calls to finally get a fill. Started several weeks ago this year since they had NOT auto refilled again. Have called for past 6 days and have been promised an Emergency refill each day since I was below 20%, now below 10%. Again promised today, but as anticipated no delivery. Will change as soon as possible. read more

Good morning.  We are writing because we have been battling since Friday evening with Amerigas In Virginia on Brook Road. The tech came out and unlocked our tank and when he went to get his pressure gauge it was broken. He then called someone to come out and check our tank and he told us the person would be here in a few hours. No one came and we called back on Friday and was told by a lady that someone would be out sat morning. Again no one came. We called this Monday morning and also did a chat over the Amerigas website and were unsuccessful to get someone to come out and turn the gas on. We spoke to a supervisor and they said soonest we could get was Thursday May 19. We have never had a problem with them til now. I asked the supervisor if I could speak to his supervisor and he said THEY do not take calls and I would be on hold the whole day. I'm sending this to you because the elderly and people who only live on social security should not have to be treated like this. They have no money to rent a hotel room for hot showers or go out and buy food cause they can not cook. They did say they would put an execelleration on the account for someone to come out but that it would likely be Thursday May 19th scheduled to turn tank on even tho that is not our fault that the tech Friday May 13th tool was broke!!!!!! Made appt over a month ago for service today since we were off work and would be here. Called this AM to confirm. They couldn't give any idea of a time so we cancelled all plans. Finally get a call at 2 this afternoon stating there had been an "emergency" and tech's truck broke down. BS!! We live so far out and he probably saw he couldn't get here by end of day and tried to reschedule for tomorrow. If you want to pay me for time off from work then sure - I'll waste another day. If I could give this company negative stars I would. I found out they had been overcharging me for home propane for over a year. They overcharged me over 1000.00. They also overcharged a friend of mine even more. When I called them on it, they said, "oh, well we will refund you". What if I had not caught it? How many folks have they overcharged? Then When I told them I was switching my supplier they said I could not, I had to use them because the tank buried in my yard was there's. Really? Not so much. I had it ripped out of my yard and a new supplier put in his tank. I put the Amerigas tank, undamaged, in my driveway for them to pick up. I picked 1 star, but if I had it my way, they would get 0 star. Very unprofessional and dishonest. Had a recent propane delivery on 11/5/20. Upon the service person arriving, he advised that he needed to do a leak check. No mention of additional cost or anything. Before he left, I discovered the fireplace did not ignite. Advised the worker, requested him to light the pilot. He stated it was just air in the line. He did not light it. As of today (12/1/20), I have a full propane tank, and the fireplace not able to light. I called the office 5Xs plus, spoke to several people. The last operator was very generous. I shared my concern, and she shared it was going to be a $141.00 fir them to come out because it's an at will call. She also shared the worker who was at my home stated he lite my pilot. He lied. She took the report, stated her supervisor was going to contact me. No one has called me back since. The phone wait to speak to some one is over 96 minutes wait. If I could give a 0 star review, I would. They came for an unscheduled safety inspection and locked off my tank without any notification since we were not home. I called to schedule an inspection so they could hook the tank back up. It's in the upper 30s, lower 40s at night and its cold in our house. I called over 10+ times within a month to schedule an inspection and continually was told someone would call me and they never did. We stopped by the local office where the manager refused to talk to us and then told us they couldn't schedule all month because their scheduling service was down? Hm, how do you pay employees when you can't schedule appointments? Worst service I have ever seen in my life and they didn't even apologize. So after being a loyal customer for nearly 20 years I am no longer doing business with AmeriGas. A few months ago I paid them $379 to refill my tank. Today I receive a bill for $129 for tank rental. Since I did not receive a "full" tank refill, I owe them rent for the tank. I called and told them to come get their tank, at which time the rep (PJ. Charity) told me, not only do I still owe the $129 rental fee, but I also owe them $59 to come get their tank. Really!?! Customer service at its best. read more

We used Ameri Gas from 2009-2021 for propane. They were just OK at best when it came to keeping our tank full. We moved in Sep of this year and the new owners had their own tank and didn't want Ameri Gas so we contacted Ameri Gas to remove the tank and close our account. The tank was full of propane and NO credit back to us in addition we were billed another 219.00 to come remove the tank. I recommend you shop around. We will never use or recommend Ameri Gas. read more

This company is trying hard to become the Verizon of the propane market. I've had them for two years. Signed up for the "never run out guarantee" well for the second year in a row, I'm out of gas. Of course it's the weekend and they're closed. Call Monday, well we're awfully busy but we'll have someone call to let you know when we can come out. No call but they do fill the tank three days later. However since no one was home, they locked the tank. Now I have a full tank of gas, but can't use it. So I call up asking when someone can unlock my tank. That will be 35 days from now. So when winter is half over, I should have the problem resolved. I'll be switching companies real soon. read more

It is with much frustration that I write this review for my family. My daughter and son-in-law are on automatic delivery. They began to smell fumes. They called Amerigas and found out that their tank was nearly empty and that they did not get the delivery on Monday. We called and explained this address is automatic delivery for 500 gallons of propane. My daughter called to inquire about delivery and we were told that a truck would be be there asap. We waited and nothing so, we continued to call. My daughter has a baby who was sick so moving him from his home was not an option we wanted nor did we want to worry about the house freezing up. I called and asked to speak to a supervisor. She confirmed it was their mistake and if the house were to receive any damage they would be liable. In the meantime I contacted another company and they said with Amerigas permission they would come and fill the tank immediatley. Amerigas said they could not allow another company come and they owned the tank, however at 5:00 pm, there was still no delivery. We called again and the supervisor said someone would call us and it would be delivered and it was escalated to emergency status. Well it is 8:17 pm and the fumes are stronger as the tank is so low, so they are waking their sick baby to come stay at our home. This has caused so much stress and anxiety and this should not have happened. As a matter of fact this is not the first time. Last year 8 months pregnant and my daughter had to leave her home for the same reason. I am no longer going to be help hostage by amerigas. This is not safe, and leaving a home with no heat is unheard of. CEO of Amerigas I ask what you would do? Sick baby, no heat, and not the owners mistake. You should be so ashamed that you do not take care of your loyal customers and that unnecessary harm be caused on to them. read more

Have been a customer for 18 years, they have changed to a call center that keeps telling me they have put an priority refill since my tanks are empty ( I am an auto refill customer). Keep telling me it will be done in 24 to 48 hours. Been 10 days, 3 calls, no one can help except to say the order is pending. DO AWAY WITH THE CALL CENTER. I can't say enough bad things about this company. They change the rules without notifying their customers. Their customer service is limited at best. The last couple reps I have talked with have been difficult to understand. In addition to that, the one yesterday was borderline rude. We are stuck with a 500 gallon tank the builder installed 20 years ago. Initially the minimum annual requirement was 250 gallons to have the rental fee waived. That was reasonable. Then it was increased without notice to 400 gallons. This year we were billed for the tank rental because they now expect us to use 1000 gallons a year. Again, there was no notice of the new requirement. Not that it would matter since our household does not have a need of 1000 gallons per year so we won't be able to have the rental fee waived. They can clearly see the history of our usage and know this. We have asked to buy our tank which was an option in the past. Now we're being told that we can't buy our tank. I welcome ideas on how to stop doing business with this awful company. read more
