A little pricey, but it is a small chain. They carry most of the popular items the big chains carry. Their paper bags need handles.

If it isn't impeccably clean, clear, and free of any off flavors, the meal is over before it starts. For at least the past four years, La Perla Tapatía has never missed the mark. Every fall and winter weekend--and even on a few summer mornings--it's my destination for a bowl that consistently delivers. The broth is remarkably clean yet deeply savory, allowing the slow-cooked flavor of the tripe and spices to shine without feeling heavy or greasy. Finished with crisp white onion, fragrant cilantro, and accompanied by warm, hand-rolled corn tortillas, it's the kind of meal that reminds you why menudo has earned its place as a beloved tradition. The heart of this experience, however, is the señora behind it all. She prepares, cooks, and serves every bowl with the unmistakable touch of home cooking. Her care is evident in every bite, and if she ever leaves La Perla Tapatía, I suspect my loyalty will leave with her. She is the soul of the kitchen, and her cooking is the reason I return time and again. The setting is exactly what you would expect from a neighborhood Mexican bodega--unpretentious, welcoming, and stocked with the everyday ingredients and staples of Mexican cuisine. It's not polished or trendy, nor should it be. The authenticity of the food is what matters, and on that front, La Perla Tapatía continues to excel.

A-1 is an Italian market with an Italian deli counter that just does Italian and other sandwiches right. The guy with the mustache working the meat counter has been there for years. I haven't been back in many years but other than higher prices and moving the cashier to the other side of the aisle, it was like walking into a time warp. My steak sandwich was huge and the meat was as tender as I remember. So glad a friend mentioned he saw someone on social media who gave A-1 a glowing review that led us to grabbing sandwiches and hanging out at Averill Park to catch up on things. The staff was friendly and helpful. The only negative might be the parking which is street only. We got lucky and it wasn't very busy this is not always the case. There isn't anyplace to eat in the market but there is a park across the street. They do have some shady characters hanging around at times so you might want to find a different location to eat your food if you're not taking it home.

This place has been here for a a while, a friend claims it's changed ownership, but I'm unsure if that's a fact. Either way, you're sure to find what you need and a few things you don't but you'll pick them up anyway because, well, Italy! On this visit, I procured some deli delights: soppressata, provolone, hot Italian sausage, caprese salad with pine nuts (nice touch) and marinated olives. A few cans of tomatoes, and some chocolate wafer cookies. I considered spumoni, but I didn't have a way to keep it cold for the drive home. Note to self: plan for cold storage next time! Service was swift and friendly. An offer to help with the bags out to the car. They don't have a parking lot, so street parking is it. Wear your patience hat because when it's busy, parking is a challenging. I'd say the only thing missing is a true Italian bakery. That's the one feature that puts a dent in my wallet...well, that and canned tomatoes. Why are canned tomatoes so darn expensive?? That DOP designation seems to add extra $$$. Overall, this place is a good option for shopping Italian products, albeit a bit out of the way for me so I'll likely only stop here when I'm in town.

I ended up getting the 4 piece fried chicken and roast beef sandwich. The potatoes were really good. I liked the seasoning. The skin was crispy. The insides were tender. The chicken had some crunch and was moist. Good sized sandwich. However, it was a little sweet. Service was very friendly and helpful. Dining is available inside. I went there on a Sunday around 15:00 and was able to find parking about a block away. One thing about the potatoes is that they are quite filling. I finished the potato sample plus a couple of more nuggets and only had enough room to finish the drum stick and wing. I took the rest home.

One thing I love is how many great items they have on the menu, and yes... they even have a lobster tank! You don't see that everywhere. With so many options, I honestly can't wait to come back and try everything else. If you're in San Pedro, Slavko's is definitely a must-try. Great food, great vibes, and worth every visit.

It's a small shop as well where you can pick up some Italian groceries, definitely want to pick up some products next time we make pasta as it looks very authentic. The ingredients were so fresh, the pesto was rich, the mozzarella was flavorful. My husband got the Godfather (medium size), big serving, great balance of flavors. Will definitely be back!

No acknowledgment of the 15% tip I just gave him. Why aren't the employees in this deli happy? It wasn't overly busy. The A/C was working fine. I've worked in far worse conditions at their age. The sandwich was very good. Ingredients were fresh. Bread was perfect. But the employees seem sad.
