I went to pay with an older bill (money) and was told multiple times they CANNOT except legal US tender. Knowing this country's history and case in point it's Federal Reserve Notes (USD) is a key function of the customer service representatives job. (Especially the manager) He specifically told me he has the right to refuse the bill. I walk across the way to the tobacco shop where he gladly exchange the currency for me. Know your job and educating yourself on the little things would have a lasting impact on the community in which you serve. DO NOT USE ORDER PICK UP from here, they'll make you sit out side for 30min even tho their sign says 15 min wait time. Even if they send you a text or email that your order is ready, don't believe them. I waited 30 min for my order pick up to be brought out to me, come to find out that my order wasn't ready for pick up, it took 30 min because they started picking my order when I got there and checked in. The good: You can find GINORMOUS bulk items of many items things here like canned goods and chips. Some of the bulk items are the biggest I've ever seen (like their can of pickled jalapeños). They have a good selection of ready- to-buy balloons as well as aluminum balloons that you can request they inflate. They had super cute ones like astronaut and space-themed ones. This isn't my go-to grocery store but it's definitely a good option for parties, fundraisers, and bulk supplies. The bad: I couldn't find Tylenol here. The interesting: Supposedly, the Smart & Final Extra stores are larger than the Smart & Final stores but I haven't been to too many to confirm if this is true. The store started in SoCal. read more

On several occasions now, I purchase a product "on sale" just to find out I was charged full price after checking out. I have advised the staff each time that their checkout computers are not reflective of posted prices to no avail. It's then too much trouble to return the item and disrupt the checkout line so you end up feeling screwed! Not a good business strategy in the long run. read more

Came in today after a workout to pick up a few things and went to check out. i put my hand basket on the counter and waited my turn as im coming closer i hear the associate say something to me with and attitude and all i hear "are these your things??" like um yes...?! so i didn't respond. she proceeds to take my things out the basket slamming them saying "usually you take things out put them here and the basket goes at the bottom" ummm i didn't ask you work here NOT ME! and then asks if i want a bag??? you so lucky i have an actual career and don't depend on a cashier job to pay my bills cause she woulda got cussed out.. her name was Shannon, about 5'7 in her 40s. read more

I really love this store. It's the biggest Smart and Final in the area (not sure of the new one that opened up the street) and they have a great selection. Other Smart and Final stores are much smaller and limited in what they carry. I ALWAYS find what I'm looking for, here. Besides the fresh fruit and veggies, their meat selection tends to always be fresh, as well. I've bought all kinds of meats to cook for meals and everything was perfect. I feel like Smart & Final is like a mid level Costco or Sam's Club, but without the membership. They do carry some bulk items, but there are times when I do need to go to Sam's, but for a quick trip, I go here. Their rotisserie chicken is bomb, plus they're bigger than the grocery store chickens (not mutant big, but big nonetheless) and priced better at around $6, whereas the grocery store chickens are almost $10 and they are really little and pathetic. They come out at 9am and you have to make sure you get them by 4 or 5 at the latest, because they often run out. If you are having a party, this is not only a place to find a variety of food items, but also find party and serving trays, party supplies like plastic utensils, to-go containers in many sizes, cups, serving utensils, and even tablecloths. They have a nice wine selection, a large selection of beers and ciders and they also have fresh flowers and plants. Service is always on point, too. The employees are genuinely nice. I haven't come across anyone who was rude and they tend to remember you if you visit often. read more

I love this store because it's a short distance from my house and has pretty much everything I need. I have been coming to this store for a good 12 years. My complaint is they never have enough checkers. They would do better by installing Self Checkout tellers. And the last complaint, their Managers, their Managers are the most sour puss face, lousy attitude people I have ever met. They ruin the atmosphere of the store. read more

This store is always so clean and the staff is extremely pleasant to deal with. The shelves are always fully stocked and clean, which is nice. It's also a negative for me, as I never stick to my original shopping list and start filling my cart with other stuff. The staff members seem to be patrolling the aisles ready to assist guests, whether it's reaching something high on the shelf or looking for something. This location is more than adequate for your shopping needs - bottom line, big selection and fair prices. I have children, consequently we have used the bathroom facilities, which are super clean. I always consider this a telltale sign if a business really cares - they do! When it comes to all food departments (meats, produce, etc.) you will find fresh quality and a good selection of options. If it matters, they also have a vast selection of liquor, be it hard alcohol or wine. Easy parking, super clean bathrooms, great selection, what else could you want? The staff is all local and very friendly. I also like the local nuances, each check out isle is named after a major street in San Pedro. I was appalled today at the behavior of your cashier (Amanda). Amanda decided to yell out to the entire line... Your cards decline for insufficient funds!!! In the nastiest way possible! I had gone over my amount by 44 cents! I had plenty of money including two other cards I could have used, a ViSA and an AMEX. This really bothered me because I realized that she had done this countless time to other customers who made be struggling just to shop at Smart and Final... She doesn't know what my story is; I could be a displaced worker or someone who is disabled or both... I looked Amanda straight in the eye and told her loudly, "So you like to embarrass people?" Then she whispered, "Oh I'm sorry..." Cindy the service manager was assisting us with the transaction and overheard everything... Even the people in the line were embarrassed for us by her behavior. Shame on you Smart and Final for allowing this cashier to disrespect your loyal customers... If she was my employee, I would terminate her on the spot... God doesn't like ugly! The only positive was Cindy was able to help us get the transaction processed. It took a few minutes longer and we had to use two cards. Cindy was definitely a life saver... With the demise of Albertson's slash Haggen, this has become my new default go-to grocery store. Parking is OK. They do a pretty good job on most things. Nice produce. Dairy is good- decent prices on the organic milk that I splurge on for my kids. Frozen is good, like the chicken wings. There's usually one decent beer on special. Seafood is a little weak, too much farm-raised Chinese talapia...no way! They stumble a bit more gourmet items like specialty cheeses. For that, you still have TJ's across the street. Lines aren't too bad. Staff is pleasant. Decent bathrooms. Overall chill. And of course, if you ever decide to become a janitor or open a small restaurant, they still have tons of cleaning supplies, paper goods and to-go packages. read more

Love the redeaux!!! Ever since they've remodeled the store, it seems as though both the quality and quantity of product selection has improved dramatically. It also seems as though they somehow were able to increase floorspace. The store is clean, laid out well and employees are helpful. If, (and it's a big if...), I were to be a pansy ass and gripe about anything, the area around the meat section is colder than a well diggers ass!!! I can't walk by that area for an extended period of time without feeling like George Costanza getting out of a pool in a Seinfeld episode, (if you know what I mean)... This location is fairly large. They have a good selection on items and the prices are great for some things. Most items are bulk, but not all. The produce section is excellent and the fruits and veggies are always fresh. I love how clean and neat this store is. read more

I cannot express how humiliating my current experience was. I am a loyal customer to this store, it is well WAS my go to since it's so close to home. My husband and I went to buy water, waited on the outside line about 15 minutes to enter just like everybody else. We got our stuff, and as we were making our way to wait in line to pay, there was an employee who was just staring at my husband in a very unease way. My husband went ahead and asked if there was an issue. Maybe we were standing on the wrong line, or maybe not following a certain procedure, or I don't know there is new regulations now due to the Covid-19 but no, he said there was no problem and "if you don't want to be here just leave" exact words. I told my husband not mind it and we went ahead and continued to wait in line to pay. I really don't know why he would treat regular customers like that, and the rude way he said it too. Of course I didn't want to be there, I wanted to be home, safe away from people but I had to buy water and other essentials. The man continued to stare and his body language was hostile. (Also, he was in no uniform and no name tag) he was standing next to another man in black but he had a name tag; the other man also approached and seemed to want to diffuse the awkward situation. We went ahead and were called to pay. As we are almost done with our transaction we see two cops approaching us. This was such a shock to us. Cops? Really? I have read protocol and regulations on markets and it mentioned a 4 question rule. Read the following article from Forbes by Janice Gassam "1. Has this person broken the law in any way? (This often requires a thorough understanding of the local, state, and federal laws.) 2. If a suspected crime has been or is being committed, is there concrete evidence? (Video footage, multiple witnesses, etc.) 3. Was an organizational policy or procedure violated? (Employees should have a detailed understanding of company policies and procedures.) 4. Is this person a disruption to customers or some aspect of the organization? Why and how? Before calling the police, employees should be able to answer "yes" to at least one of these questions. Employees should first attempt to get the individual to leave the establishment. If the individual does not want to leave, reassess the situation and ask the questions above. But calling law enforcement is obviously not a viable solution if someone is being asked to leave based on stereotypes and bias. To avoid racial profiling, it is best to have very objective and quantifiable markers to measure policies, procedures, and protocol within the organization. Vague and ambiguous policies can open the door to issues down the line" This is just one example of the many I found online. My husband is the nicest person ever, he never has any issues and everyone that meets him loves him. He actually just had helped a cute senior lady, she was struggling to put a case of water under her cart. Yet my husband still got racial profiled and we were both humiliated and treated badly. I don't understand why people have to be like this? I understand everyone's stress level is at its peek right now during these hard times but there is no room in time or history or countries were racism is approved in way shape or form. The cashier was as confused as we were, all the employees were looking at us and the customers, I'm sure they thought we stole something or had committed some type of crime. We have never been in any situation like this, I cannot express in words how belittled we felt on that moment. It's crazy to me how can someone just have the heart to judge another person just by the color of their skin, clothing, etc. My husband was just asking a simple question, and in return he gets the cops? Why? Because he is Hispanic? And where is the customer service? I can guarantee if we were shopping wearing our uniforms (like we usually do since we would always go shop after work) they would not have dare to call the cops or even treat us in a disrespectful way. I'm sorry for all the people that are also victims of racial profile, stereotypes, it is unconstitutional and no one should stay quite. We will take legal action, and hope this guy (which I have the name of already but do not want to give it out on here) gets what he deserves for being an inhumane racist. I believe this is a very overlooked Supermarket. They have a really wonderful selection of produce and organic items. I think most people think of Smart & Final has a restaurant supply store but that couldn't be further from the truth. This is a terrific supermarket in any measure. Used to love S&F and have done almost all of my shopping with them for years but lately I'm not happy at all. For about a year now, particularly the last 6 months, they are doing a terrible job of stock control. Basics like HE detergent, fabric softener etc are continuously out of stock. Haven't been able to buy my French Roast coffee beans for the last 2 months from this location or any of the nearby locations either. Today they were completely out of any variety of dark roast coffee. Meats on sale have been greatly reduced in variety. Often out of stock on basic cuts such as brisket. I could go on and on.... Such a shame to see this downhill spiral. When I ask the staff, they blame it on a warehouse issue. Saying they keep submitting orders but don't receive the products that were ordered. Regretfully I just purchased a Costco membership. Hate the huge stores but at least they have the selection read more

This is a wonderful Smart and Final. Everybody who works here is always very friendly and very helpful. I noticed that this is the store they chose to train the new people that were going on today 25th Street location. They have a great selection of produce as well as both products. They've also recently popped up on the organic selections. You can find all the organic and healthy choices under their good and well signs that they have scattered throughout the store. Shop here very often, they're always in stock on sale items (which is so rare for most grocery stores!!) The produce is SO cheap and always looks really fresh! They have a great selection of meat, you seriously can't get a lower price anywhere! I barely shop at other grocery stores because they have such a great selection of small items and large items (for parties). Customer service is great! Cashiers are really fast and efficient. This location is a great one! I was in real need of using the bathroom before shopping so I went straight to the back. Wow, this store has possibly the cleanest bathroom I have seen in a grocery store. For whatever reason when an establishment has a a clean bathroom, it gives me the impression that they handle their merchandise with care and with high sanitary standards. I am very turned off by businesses that have filthy bathrooms. Anyway. they usual Smart & Final stuff. Great prices, great selection of ethnic foods, tons of liquor...etc and, great prices. Came here a week ago after work because I needed to stock up on alcohol for my weekend getaway and man did they ruin it...I bought a bottle of Remy Martin 1738 for 65 dollars and when I got to my hotel room and start drinking I come to find out it was a bottle of fiji water...I was soooooo mad I called to let them know and the girl that answered was soooooo rude and got very hostile..why was she sooo rude did she switch the bottle out??? Anywho I called back to speak to Blanca or jaime but they kept giving me the run around so I took the loss and swore never to shop at smart and final and make sure I tell people what a horrible grocery store it is...maybe they should pay their employees more so they don't have to steal alcohol...at least replace with cheap alcohol ding bats...only reason for the one star is that the cashier was nice. read more

There are some items that are cheaper at Target or Food 4 Less, but after trying Smart & Final, I go there at least once a month to stock up. Overall I'm glad there's a smart and final right next door to my house, but the problem location is always big lines and when you see literally almost a dozen people working there and there's only one or two cashiers with a line of people you would think the cashiers will take a look at the line of frustrated people and call for more help but unfortunately that doesn't happen all the time most of the time that it. I will admit - I was sad to see Albertsons go as it was my grocery store of choice. I didn't like Haggans either so I was skeptical at first of Smart & Final. I had never been in one that wasn't strictly large quantities and restaurant needs but HOLY MOLY was I happily surprised when I gave it a shot. I love this store. It's ALWAYS clean. Never packed. The people are always smiling and willing to chat if you have the time. This is my new grocery store hands down and I am always sending people there too. Don't leave too, Smart & Final!
