The berries were small, sour, and pickings were slim in the kids' field. My husband finished off a flat in the larger field, where the berries were much bigger, sweeter, and more plentiful. We drove forty minutes to spend twice the amount of time searching for tiny, sub-par berries in an overgrown field. And they charged us the same price for the crapy berries as they did the good berries. I will not return to Ostanek's farm. And I would not recommend anyone with children go here, especially if you want quality berries.

I had been once before, but my in-laws were visiting from England and we just had to take them here. They agreed that it was the classic, small town, American market. We all loved our visit. It's quite big inside and very open/spacious to move around. Beyond their famous cherry pies, jams, and butters, you'll find their fresh produce, local cheeses (yumm), and a unique selection of artisan goods (I'm obsessed). Also if you're an apple lover, you'll have come to the right place. They were sampling their fresh picked options, and we of course left with a big bag to take home. Also, all things fall-esque like cider donuts, pumpkin pancake mix, and unique fudge. Oh anddd they have this great little outdoor section for kiddos, equip with a swing set, big sandbox, handful of rideable bikes/cars, and a cute little rope maze in the woods. My son loved exploring. The owner Mark Carlson was extremely friendly, knowledgeable about his fresh fruit and vegetable products and knew much history of the area. There were jams and sauces, Fresh from the farm tomatoes and so much to look at and shop for.....I purchased some oddly shaped long tomatoes, and some dried cherries to bring back home. I chatted about our 9/11 experiences BUT while I was 'trapped' in London, UK during September 11th 2001. The market store was moved from a close by location in sections and rebuilt and lovingly restored and rebuilt by the Carlson family. They are currently adding in other parts of the business as they grow...including a possible historical setting scene of what the former historical "migrant picker's shack used to look like back in the day. Their orchard market is open Mid May through October. They have Pick Your Own Cherries and a funny Cherry Picking RULES sign inside the market store, most important rule, DO NOT CLIMB THE CHERRY TREES! This place has a medium sized graveled parking lot, easy parking and handicapped friendly ramp to enter the store. The booking experience on their website was straightforward and the deposit went towards my purchase the day of the experience. Parking and check-in were very easy, as was the walk to the flower field. The family that runs One Eighty Petals is incredibly knowledgeable and kind and the setting was very idyllic. We got an overview of the flowers available to pick before being provided vessels and clippers. I was able to fill a large bucket of flowers for about $55, which produced seven vases (of various sizes) worth of flowers. They had smaller U-Pick quantities and ready-made bouquets available, as well. This was truly a magical experience and I highly recommend it to tourists and locals alike!

A must see on Washington Island!…read more I'm biased, because I LOVE the color purple. But come on....neatly arranged, shapely clumps of flowers laid out in a giant field? It's a beautiful (and fragrant) sight! There were so many butterflies and bees visiting all the flowers at our visit, that I took probably too much time trying to take the perfect photograph. There is a gazebo and benches amongst the lavender plants if you choose to relax out there, otherwise, there is a patio just outside the shop to relax on and enjoy your purchases. The shop is a cozy place with lavender EVERYTHING! Books, oils, sachets, perfume, soap, dried flower bunches, small dishes, pressed flowers, candles, jewelry..... There is a small counter area where you can purchase food and beverages, most of it lavender infused. I picked up a few caramels, and my husband bought me a lavender wine slushie. I am by no means a wine drinker, but this thing was delicious! The ladies inside the shop are very friendly and knowledgeable, and can give you recommendations on which kind of lavender plants to purchase when you get home (I don't think they sell plants there). The grounds are small, with a gazebo and a few photo spots, but surprisingly, there was little lavender scent in the air. Bathrooms are only accessible after paying admission. The gift shop and coffee counter were cute, but overall, the $5 entry felt underwhelming compared to other lavender fields in other states and countries.

They have all things cherry including the famous chopped cherry jam, and also have many other varieties of jams, and other canned products. They make everything in house which is amazing. We also love their pies and on this visit got a frozen unbaked cherry pie to bake at the house we were renting. It was packed full of cherries and so delicious! The crust was flaky, tender and perfect. It is definitely worth the trip to the far end of Door County!
