Avoid this place if you want a good cut. I was willing to give it a shot because my usual barber at Camillo's hasn't been able to really give me the new style I want very well. I keep my hair cut short on the sides and a bit longer on top, combed over one side. I can't provide the name of the stylist I saw, but she worked in the chair closest to the front door. She came in when I was already waiting and said two incorrect names before she finally asked those of us waiting and since mine began with the same letter as she kept asking for, she picked me to go to her chair. I wasn't expecting the best cut ever, but I figured since this is a chain, and close to American University, they'd be good at cutting current styles. They are not. The clippers the stylist used felt old and were pulling my hair as she trimmed the side down to a one. I figured she just hadn't oiled them in a while, but when I got home I noticed that they cut all uneven and I had to redo the entire cut myself in the bathroom. It was a painstaking process. Here's the deal: I showed her multiple pics of the cut I wanted and she said no problem. Her blades cut uneven, with some hair as long as a #4 and I wanted a #1 guard. I had to redo all of it to make sure it was even. I asked for a trim on top and she cut the hair to half the length it was. She put a hard part in where it's combed over and the line is crooked and double thick in one part, like she tried to straighten it, but just made it wider. I would have asked for it to be fixed, but 1. I didn't realize how bad it was in the two seconds she let me look in a hand-held mirror and 2. I didn't think she'd be able to fix the couple things I noticed anyways. Seriously, go to Camillo's down by Z-Burger - it's cheaper and the barbers are WAY better. read more

DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU ONLY SPEAK ENGLISH... OR IF YOU JUST WANT A GOOD HAIRCUT... I read the mostly lousy reviews of this place, but also considered that as one person who gave it a good review said - "it depends on the individual hair stylist." And sometimes mean-spirited people write bad reviews because they're just grumps and will say bad things before they'd say something good. So having had prior good experiences with other Supercuts in other states - I went for it anyway. Background: 3 months earlier I had received a really bad cut elsewhere and have been waiting for it to grow out. I went to this Supercuts for the first time. I felt a vibe that I should run, but I got an older woman (40's or 50's), so I think, hey, she's been at this awhile, maybe she's a pro and can figure it out. Here's the problem... I explained to the woman what was wrong with the prior haircut and what I'd like in order to repair it. She all smiles and says "YES. YES. YES." I think she understands... I am so wrong. It took me a little too long to realize that she does not understand a word I'm saying. She only speaks Spanish. All the stylists are speaking Spanish. No one in the shop knew English as their 1st language, and Spanish is all that they use to converse among themselves. In short - THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT I'M ASKING FOR... THEY JUST BARELY GET BY WITH A FEW SENTENCES THAT MAKE ME THINK THEY DO! But the worst thing is that SHE REALLY IS AN AWFUL HAIRCUTTER! All she can do is cut the same amount off all over... following the prior mistakes as it was... only so much worse... as if that were possible! When I tried to explain where things were wrong... she cut more where I pointed... and then she did a jagged "texturizing" cut only on the right side, but not the left side. This happened days ago... I've waited in hopes that washing and time could make it sit right... no... Impossible as it may sound this IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST HAIRCUT EVER. It is so uneven everywhere that I am astounded. Not only did she follow the wrong pattern that was there to begin with... not understanding when I said - "The haircut I have is wrong, please fix it, do not just give me the same thing I have." After she thought she was done and I pointed to the worst trouble part on the left side and explained and showed her how uneven it was, she just smiled brightly said "YES. YES. YES" and cut it more... shorter... as uneven as it had been before, but shorter, and worse. PLEASE BELIEVE THE BAD REVIEWS THIS PLACE HAS RECEIVED! And please add to it the fact that part of why it's bad is that if you speak English - They smile, they say: "YES YES YES" - AND THEY DO NOT UNDERSTAND A WORD YOU ARE SAYING. The patron to my right was American but spoke Spanish to them, guess that's what he had to do. But the woman who cut my hair ALSO was just very darn LOUSY at it. Even if you don't know English - COME ON! How could you cut ANYTHING this horribly? Now I remember how the other stylists looked at me, almost like they were laughing at me, because they knew this woman didn't know what I was saying and they were having a big joke about me. Simple, easy, and fast. I got a trim and it cost $20. Not too bad of a price for DC. Keep in mind it's not a salon, so I didn't expect to go in and get anything fancy done, and I wouldn't necessarily choose a basic hair cutting place to experiment with drastically different and risky hair styles. But this Supercuts is great for a simple trim! I was very satisfied with my experience. read more

I didn't get my hair cut today because they were opened but stated that they were closed when I arrived at 4:20 pm on a Sunday. I called to get the hours (Open until 5) ,then, drove from Takoma Park only to be told that they were not accepting any more customers. They had a couple of people waiting in the lobby. Their closing hours should be adjusted to reflect when they stop taking customers. Will not try again. read more

First of all, a caveat: I didn't get my hair cut here. But given the poor customer service I experienced (before I walked out), I feel compelled to write a review. I walked in, and seeing that no one was sitting down waiting, I decided to wait for a stylist to free up. (There was one cutting a customer's hair. The rest were in the back?) There was no receptionist, and the stylist didn't greet me as I came in. I had to say hello to her first. Strike one... After waiting for 5-10 minutes, another customer came in and sat down. Then, two or so workers came out of the back. (Does everyone take a break at the same time?) One of them asked which waiting customer arrived first. I raised my hand, but so did the other customer, who began to head toward the stylist chair. Confused, I said, "Um, I think I'm next," but was told (a bit curtly, but perhaps that is understandable) by the customer that he was ahead of me on the waiting list. I was never told there was a waiting list! Thus the embarrassing misunderstanding between us customers. Strike two... Strike three: One of the workers used a rude voice to show another worker how to work the computer. Strike four: $19 for this sort of customer service? I walked out, and will now try the Tenleytown barber/salon down Wisconsin Ave. that has received good reviews. So disappointed in Supercuts Tenleytown! If I could give zero stars I would. Today was awful. To start, I sat there for 45 minutes waiting and there weren't even that many people in there. Then when it was finally my turn, I gave the woman who was cutting my hair specific instructions to TRIM my hair and even provided a photo of myself with the haircut I wanted. She messed it up beyond recognition and the only way I could look normal was to buzz my hair off. It seems like the ONLY thing these f***ing people can do. It is my first time visiting this branch of Supercuts. Generally, I believe that there are still some good quality of hairstylists in Supercuts despite the mediocre reviews. Yet, frankly I did not feel confident with the outcome I would expect to have after reading those consistently negative reviews about this place. Eventually, I decided to put a gamble for this one-time trial. Unfortunately, the outcome was very disappointing. First, there is absolutely no customer service at this haircut place at all (strictly speaking, I would not even call it a salon). When I first walked in, the front desk was empty and no one actually took the initiative to greet me. Well, don't get me wrong -- I do not expect any royal greeting; it can just be a simple greeting and see what service I am here for (i.e. straight cut, perm, color, etc.). No -- absolutely nothing. Rather, I noticed a sign-in sheet to place myself in order. Since then, I realized that I stepped into the wrong door for haircut service. The hairdressers were solely into their own world. I agree upon one of the reviewers that the hairdressers do not really understand what customers truly ask for; they simply nodded to pretend that they understand. I think that language barrier results in the lack of communication with customers. There should at least be one manager who coordinates the customer flow in English. I did not feel comfortable and valued as a customer when I was just being called out as a 'numero X'. The most 'memorable' thing did not happen until I actually sat on the chair. It was the very first time that I was being SPINNED around within the chair for a haircut throughout all the haircut experience in my entire life!! It was true -- I was literally being spinned around during the whole process while the hairdresser stood at the same spot! She must have been tired of stepping onto the other side for the side trim. Moreover, I felt like my hair was cut like the lawn being mowed. Don't even mention about elegance of treating your hair as if it was their own. My last word for those who may want to save your wallet over the pricey salon. I would NOT recommend this haircut place at all (again, its quality is not even close to being called a salon). Even if you were students and you were really tight financially, think twice before gambling your hair at this place. read more

Not sure what all the nagativity is all about, as I have been coming here for years. Hey, my wife sometimes gets a lousy haircut and pays 3x more than Supercuts. People are friendly, store is clean, and I have NEVER heard a loud television, I'm not even sure there is one in the store. And now you can call ahead and get you rname on the waiting list. The girl that answered the phone was giggling and laughing with someone else and was really unprofessional and then proceeded to tell me that there is only one stylist capable of cutting curly hair and he wouldn't be in until Tuesday. I want to write about my good experience to counter some of the negative ones here. i do think people are more likely to write if they're unhappy. I was a tourist to DC from the dry West Coast. The humidity turned my hair, which needed a cut but had been camouflaged with hot rollers, into a messy, frizzy ball. I didn't want to pay normal DC prices so found this Supercuts. It's the only one in DC limits but luckily was just a block from the Metro. I love this haircut! The stylist listened attentively, showed me what she was doing and how much she was taking off at every step. She was personable without being overly talkative (a Chatty Cathy once cut my bangs to the roots). I noticed as customers arrived they greeted the stylists, which leads me to believe they get a lot of repeat customers here. If I lived in DC, I'd definitely use this SuperCuts again! Rude ladies! I wait for 50 minutes... they call my name but after I get up and ready to sit down they give my seat away to someone else they say was 'ahead' of me. I then wait another 10 minutes and they call another person instead of me (I'm assuming I got deleted from the computer list after the first call) and they tell me the lady "called in and is ahead of me"... well I sure remember the phone ringing so I had been there much longer!! I smelt favoritism... so I left. Not a very welcoming place... they size you up before hand. Plus I went to this place a month ago and they butchered my bangs... Yikes. I went here for 3-4 haircuts over the course of several months and I was never a fan of this place, but had no choice while I was a poor college student. It depends on the person you get, how good their tools are, and what type of mood they're in. One time I walked in and the woman behind the counter was carrying on a loud phone conversation with her teenage daughter about having boys in her room and having a full-blown mother - daughter fight in the middle of the floor. This isn't the classiest place, but that is just not good business practice to do that in front of customers. Do that on your own time so I don't have to listen. Another time, I requested razored ends and she used a literal salon razor attached to her brush and I could hear my hair getting murdered by this woman. Two other times I had a decent cut- she was careful, talked about products with me, and was just very pleasant. If you are desperate for a trim and are low on cash then go here, but don't go for the heck of it. Wait a few weeks and save your money for a professional salon. read more

They were nice, so I will at least give them that. I realize it's Supercuts and not the salon, but my whole reason for going is because I just want a trim and most Supercuts or Hair Cuttery's can handle simple instructions. Notice I said, most. When I want my hair to grow out I don't see why I should pay $50 + for a salon to cut my hair, not to mention, they want to do hair artistry and so a simple trim bores them and so they get adventurous and typically cut off more than what I want. Other Supercuts are usually point and click and have no problem doing a simple 1-2 inch trim. I honestly don't know if this woman didn't speak English as well as she pretended or if she wasn't listening, or didn't care. The thing is my friend went before me and she gave her the IDENTICAL haircut even though we both requested a different, and very simple trim. She asked me how I wanted the trim. I said 2 inches all the way around. Do not cut the back the same length as the front. Not exactly rocket science. My hair WAS already professionally styled and every other person I'd gone to for a trim did a simple paint-by-numbers and just cut an inch off the style that was already in place. I felt skeptical when I heard all of the stylists bantering back and forth in Spanish. This happens at the nail salon but nails are simple and easy to rectify a bad job. The woman proceeded to cut my hair ALL the same length. She might as well have used a ruler. She even combed it over my face and cut it all the way across. I haven't had someone do that to me since I was a child and thought it was weird, but thought that it was the front and sides of my hair, so I didn't say anything...not to mention, I couldn't really see. I now look like Hanson or a 5-year-old. That must be her signature cut 'cause she gave the same to my friend. So, aside from my hair being one length, that also means she had to cut 3-4 inches off of the back, ANOTHER thing I instructed her not to do. Seriously, even if I pull my hair into a ponytail I look like a dressage pony. Now I have to wait 4 months-plus for it to GROW out so I can get someone who knows how to do an adult haircut to shape it. Meanwhile, I went from having a sexy haircut to looking like I'm about to sing, 'MmmBop.' read more

So my usual stylist is in Gaithersburg and I can only make it up there on thursdays. I only needed my bangs trimmed so I figured it couldn't be that bad. I was wrong. First of all, when I called earlier in the day, I asked if it was better to call ahead or just walk in. The guy said just walk in. So when I get there I sign in but notice that people keep walking in that they keep taking before me. A man who was waiting noticed this and was told it was because they called ahead. I'm finally seated and the girl snags my hair and my earring twice. She cuts my bangs but doesn't use the blowdryer and is content to send me on my way. I ask her if I could use the dryer she says yes. My bangs are choppy and uneven. I was so mad I didn't even ask her to fix it. You get what you pay for. I will gladly pay 3x the amount than ever come back here. First and last time. read more

Came in at 1:15 p.m. and didn't get a haircut until 2:05 p.m. Ridiculous. The hairstylist didn't say anything while cutting my hair and didn't even apologize for the wait. Before the haircut, I overheard the older gentleman in a black vest talking to the hairstylist saying she was taking customers in the wrong order. She is so incompetent, which wasted my Sunday afternoon, but at least the gentleman could do his job. He's the only reason this post is getting one star. Another hairstylist also took someone who just game in without any appointment and she didn't even write her name down. The older gentleman explained to her that was wrong so at least there's that. But the whole time the hairstylists were speaking Spanish to each other, probably talking crap about everyone else. After the haircut, I didn't tip. Hell no, she didn't deserve one. The 10-minute haircut was not worth the long wait nor the $20 price. Bottom line: never going there ever again. Learn how to do your job the right way. read more

I was tired of paying so much money for a haircut or simple color, so I checked out Supercuts in Tenleytown. The stylists are very talented and super nice. It has a great neighborhood feel. No appointments necessary which is great when you are running around on the weekends and don't want to committ weeks in advance. If you call them first, they'll put you on a list, so the wait is easy. I'd give it 4 stars, but the owner really needs to do some work on the place. Parts of the ceiling are falling down and it is in desperate need of a paint job and a good cleaning. Not the fault of the lovely people who work there. Also, there are CAMERAS everywhere. Why?? It's not a bank. Why does the owner play the role of big brother? It makes me uncomfortable, but I try to ignore it because the stylsts are worth the visit. read more

I usually go to a Supercuts in NYC when I'm there on visiting family. They always do a good job for the price. However, I really needed a cut so I went to this one in Tenley. It was terrible. While the stylist did get the length right, she did the rest badly. I could tell when she was cutting it she didn't know how to do proper layers. The back is bluntly cut and has chunks that don't work into the layers. The salon was also kind of dirty. When I looked at the back of my head and pointed out it looked lopsided, she said "That's because you are moving your head." I have had a similar cut for a decade. I know what it's supposed to look like and a hair cut should not only look good when your head is frozen in place. Don't go there. read more
