Avoid this place at all costs. The hairdresser working here (and there was only one) was real nasty when I tried to tell her how I wanted my hair cut, as if I had no right telling her. And she was wearing a shower cap, like she just got out of the shower. I had been coming here for 30 years and they used to be really good, but not anymore. A shame. And she took a big chunk out of my hair, because of which I had to go to another hairdresser's in order to get it blended and layered to fix that spot. Also, I overheard this same hairdresser thanking another customer for giving her a tip, saying something to the effect of, "I appreciate that, we have to eat too, you know." I thought that was a pretty low and unprofessional way of thanking someone for a tip. I actually did not feel safe in this place, I was so glad to get out. And there's always dangerous looking young kids hanging out in front on the sidewalk now too, I'm not sure what's up with that. read more

This place butchers you. They will listen to everything you say except for the thing that was most important and that you emphasized the most. It's possible to get a bad haircut because you didn't communicate properly, but that was not the case this time. They could see perfectly well where my natural hairline was, and I told them to start out just taking off an inch, and I told them not to cut so high. So they listened to neither me, nor their own common sense about how it would end up looking. They did a good job on the most unflattering haircut I could have...I am never going back. read more

First of all let me just say this, this location is VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. You walk in expecting the salon to be clean with a nice ambiance that would make you feel comfortable receiving service here, but it did the complete opposite... I felt immediately disgusted after scoping out the environment. The manager Vachelle is very rude to her employees. I walked in a few days ago with my son, because he wanted a different hair cut for back to school. Vachelle was too busy belittling, and bullying a younger girl who worked there in which I thought the younger hair stylist was a complete sweetheart! So I didn't understand what all the commotion was about... I also did not like the fact though that in between cutting hair I did not ONCE see any of Vachelle's employees clean any of her tools off in between clients. There was so much hair on the ground I felt like I was in Petco waiting for my dog to get groomed! One of Vachelle's employees named Brittney also felt the need to call my son's haircut ugly after the fact!!!! I tell you I was infuriated by the end of my son's visit... I will never see myself or my son walk back into a disgusting & vile place like this ever again. So glad my son didn't have any hair bumps or infections. Guess we got lucky! read more

Never again! Starting a new Job Monday so I decided to go to Super Cuts in Squirrel Hill. BIG MISTAKE! Although I have been going here for the past 4 years, I will NEVER go back! Had a Gentlemen cut my hair. Well, maybe it was that. I left the entity with wet hair all over me for he didn't even blow it away from my head and clothes. He used the hot towel though, but all that did was smear cut hair all over my shoulders. I had to go home and take a shower again. Checked in before I arrived and had to wait for about 15min. Since I was getting a haircut after a year (had 10-inch long hair), I was expecting to get some suggestions on which styles would suit me and which wouldn't. I asked Sierra to help me out with it and all she gave me was two women's hairstyle books and a reply - "I don't look at that face in the mirror every day, so you decide". I then asked her to reduce the length by half (should've been around 5 inches after) and she went on to reduce it to less than 2 inches! I came to Supercuts for my haircut after quite some time. I got a pretty good haircut for about $20. I called about 15 mins ahead of time, so I didn't have to wait at all. It took about 10-15 mins to get the full haircut. I'm not sure what people complain about. read more

This is not a barber or a beauty salon, but you pay for what you get. I went today (Monday) without an appointment and I was taken right away. The hair stylist, very politely, asked how I wanted my hair. I said, "this (pointing to my head), but shorter" She competently did a quick job and got me out of there in about 20 minutes. The tab was $17 plus tip; a very good price. My experience today was very good...but: - You will never have the same person cutting your hair twice in a row unless you call ahead and wait up to 3-4 days for that employee to be there. - The "stylists" are defiantly green, fresh out of beauty school. They do a very basic job. I would not want anything more complicated than a haircut. I would be afraid to get anything else. - I have heard and seen the damage they can do to a newbie. I know people who swear up and down that they hate this place. I have even been told by a close friend that he feels was turned down for a job and blames it on his haircut from Supercuts in Sq. Hill. I have heard things like this a lot about this place. But... - It's cheap and fast. The people are nice and you don't need an appointment. For a $17 haircut, it's hard to complain too much. Was weary about going to Supercuts considering it is mostly a male friendly salon, but I left very satisfied. I came in for a trim and Elena did a great job. I asked for the minimal amount off and she did exactly as I asked. The only downside was the 30-40' wait because they do not take appointments, but it went by fast. Overall I had a good experience. You get what you pay for. I needed a bang and hair trim, and asked for my bangs to be shorter but not above the eyebrows. They're way above my eyebrows (like, an inch) and I look like a child actor now, soo... I could've been more stern, but she cut it all off right at the beginning. In the two other cities that I've lived in, I've always been able to get a quick and pretty haircut/ brow wax from supercuts. I consider myself secretly low maintenance, and hate to spend a ton on my long, thick and wavy brown hair because I always figured, "how can you mess this up?" Well, they butchered my eyebrows, which are so easy, and I said so many times, just get all those strays. I like them fuller, I felt like she had shaved them off and penciled them on and that I looked perpetually surprised for a few weeks. And my hair, I know, I know, everyone always says they take off more than you want, but I really felt like the stylist had misheard me and had cut enough off to make a donation to locks of love. I don't know why it gets such low reviews, you're going to Supercuts, you have to have your expectations set correctly. It's not a high end beauty salon and it never pretended to be. I've had my hair cut here many times and I've never been disappointed. I ask to have the ends trimmed and my layers updated and I get exactly that, which is excellent. The stylists and the staff are very kind. The wait can be a bit long, but if you call ahead they let you know when to come in so you don't have to wait! I and my fiance went here on a Tuesday evening. It was easy to get an appointment immediately. I went for a hair wash, a little trim and some layers. My fiance got a standard mens haircut. The prices were 17.95(only haircut) and 20.95(haircut with wash) which are standard rates I usually pay in Maryland too. My haircut was fine and even. However during the hair wash my hair stylist was a bit rough and that made me uncomfortable. I was chided a bit for being stiff and reacting to it. She was not very friendly to me and that kind of killed my mood. My fiance's haircut was a bit too short and they did it really quickly. This supercuts salon is horrible. They are very inconsistent and the staffs are very rude. But what i experienced couple of days ago was completely unexpected behavior from them. I got a haircut from the staff named Brittney. She completed my haircut in 5 minutes, never asked me properly what cut I wanted. She had such a straight face all the time which felt like she is giving me a free hair cut. She did not get rid of the residual hairs after I got the cut. I had pieces of hairs all over my face, head and neck. Just after me, a white lady got a haircut from her and her behavior changed completely. She greeted her with a smile, talked to her nice. So, what can you call her behavior towards me? I tried this place 3 times as it is so close to me, but every time it seems that I am bothering them when I go in there. It is usually cut too short, although today I was so explicit they could not have even tried. But there is always such a rush and I had to shower after work again to get all of the hair off me.
