Though I was pleased with the style the first time, all of my edges broke off when I took them out. I went back another time for a different hairstyle, giving her the benefit of the doubt. I made sure to tell her about my edges, in which she looked as though SHE was offended that MY hair broke off. Vivian was rude and inattentive both times that she styled my hair. Even though I showed her photos of my desired style, she did her own thing. She insisted on putting more hair in, and by the end of the experience, the faux locs looked unnatural and bulky. She used 7 packs of hair and my hair is thin. I had to rush out of the appointment once she was complete, so I didn't have time to go back and forth with them about how much I was un-pleased. Once I got home, I realized how horrible my hair was. So, I reached out to Layla, the owner. She avoided my texts, calls, voicemails--she sent me straight to voicemail. Prior to this, she was always quick to respond to me. Finally, I had my friend call her from a different number and she picked up!!! Once, she realized what she had done, she immediately returned my call, after I sent her a message on Whatsapp (which showed me she was online.) Unacceptable. Two days later, Layla fixed my hair the way I desired. She had to cut out a lot of crotchet out and re-twist the faux locs that Vivian messed up. They spoke nasty about me in french, until at the end of the appointment, I started responding back to them in french. They were trying to hustle more money out of me. They looked ashamed of themselves and they should have been. Their bathroom is horrendous and overall the space is shabby and unclean. They are extremely unprofessional and have poor customer service. Do yourself a favor, pay a little more and go somewhere that actually honors your business.

I also did not think to ask, which I regret--especially given that this is an expensive, high-end salon. From the start, I had concerns. During the shampoo, water was sprayed into my ear. The stylist did not have a tool cart and instead removed clips and unholstered scissors directly from a drawer, which felt unprofessional. When I showed her a reference photo, she appeared confused. At that point, I should have left. As the cut began, it became clear she was very inexperienced. To avoid further issues, I asked her to simply trim the hair straight across and remove about an inch. Even this basic trim took an unusually long time. When she finished, she called another stylist over to check her work, which confirmed my concerns. At checkout, I was charged $55. When I questioned the price for a student-level stylist, I was told she was a "junior stylist." I paid the bill, left a tip, and left feeling extremely disappointed with both the experience and the lack of transparency.

My niece recommended this salon that my deceased sister (her mother) always used. I'm giving two stars out of respect for my sister who I truely loved and miss so much. Also on the upside the staff was friendly. But here's the thing... when I called them and asked for a price on a hair cut, I spoke to Cheryl. She said it would be $24 and that Beverly had a 1:30 appointment available. When I arrived I was greeted in a friendly manner and escorted to the wash station where Beverly proceeded to wash my hair. She asked me about my cut.. what I wanted done. I told her I wanted it trimmed.. not too much taken off, angled around my face, some long layers and a long side swept bang. I took off my glasses so that she could do my cut but was then unable to see what she wants doing. I said numorous times to her "your not cutting too much off are you" and she responded by telling me "No". She also suggested that I should color my hair because it would make me look younger. I was quite upset when I put my glasses back on and saw what she'd done. She did NOT angle around my face. I had longish bangs but definitely not a long side swept bag. And I've not worn my hair this short since I was a young child! When I told her it was way too short she explained that she cut off as much as she did because I had so much damage from years of coloring my hair. She then proceeded to pick up pieces of my hair from the floor and stretching them untill they broke to demonstrate to me just how brittle they were. Then she blow dried my hair, all the while telling me how much younger this made me look.. Well what was I to do? Can't exactly put the hair back in my head after it's been cut off. I followed her to the register and she said "that will be $36". I said "when I called I was told $24". She responded by telling me that that was the price for the cut but there was a charge for the wash and blow out (neither of which I requested). She said she thought my hair looked like it need to be washed (I'd washed it the previous day) and she thought I might like to see how it looked styled. She added that they usually charge more when they have to cut off more but she didn't charge me extra for that.. REALLY??!!! I left and cried the whole way home. I sent a message to the girl who usually cuts my hair and she asked me to send her a picture. I did and she responded by saying "wow.. your going to need a recut because it's so uneven!" I have my oldest son's wedding renewal next week and my youngest son's wedding next month. I'd planned on wearing my hair up but now its far too short. If I try to pull it back with an elastic band it doesn't stay in because it's that short! I've considered extentions but understand that's quite expensive, Bottom line is if you want to go somewhere where they'll not only listen but do what you as I this is NOT the place. Oh ..and last summer when I again couldn't catch up with my regular stylist I went once to Great Clips in Parksburg, PA and once to Pulse Beauty Academy (where students practice on your hair).. and both times got much better cuts.

This is the kind of place where everybody knows not only your name, but your family members' names and any important life events going on with you. They take such good care of their clients and care so much about you not only being happy with your hair, but also in your life. They are very sincere in that respect. My hair stylist, Rita, has celebrated graduations and my wedding with me and has been a shoulder of support when things weren't so great. I had some issues with how the past management ran the place and as far as ambiance, I didn't love how it looked a little dated and under cared for. A lot of people recommended What's On Top. After checking a few salon web pages this salon just stuck out to me. I called for an appointment the gentleman who answered the was very polite and helpful. He asked a few questions as to what I was looking for and set me up with the owner Karen. The salon is very nice and clean. Is not a big salon I believe they only had three chairs but very welcoming and comfortable. Karen the owner is so nice and friendly. She makes you feel right at home. Actually all of the employees are very friendly. Karen asked me what I wanted and I showed her a couple of pictures from Pinterest for hair color and style. She brings out a couple of color samples and what she suggested would look nice together. Even the hair cut I wasn't 100% sure exactly what I wanted but she was so helpful. All I can say when Karen was done I loved my hair she did such a wonderful job. I have gotten so many compliments on my hair. I will definitely be going back to What's On Top. I highly recommend this salon.
