Came here bc I heard this place was a bit of a hidden gem and I have to say I agree. In the league of bodegas, this place stands out in a few ways - first off, it is within the Hispanic neighborhood of Elmhurst and the ownership reflects this as well as the homemade products in the fridge and the case of Latin pastries including concha's which yes you can put your bodega sandwich on
I opted for the chopped cheese on chocolate concha which was quite tasty, though as someone who didn't grow up with chopped cheeses despite being from NYC I don't think I need to have it again (or any chopped cheese really) but it was really cool to get it on the concha.
The homemade agua fresca (lime cucumber) was refreshingly delicious and their homemade guacamole was delicious too! I didn't opt for their homemade chips, wish I did.
All in all, a quintessentially New York place that I hope lives forever. Yes I did buy myself a bottle of salsa verde to bring home at the same time while waiting for my food. Places like this are the beauty of what makes NYC, and queens specifically, like no other place in the world. read more
