We were quoted $95 for out medium-sized goldendoodle. After completion the groomer attempted to charge us $180, stating that our dog was a "large" dog.
He is not, we checked after, he stands 1ft, 8in at the shoulder, and weighs 35lbs. That is a medium dog. Ww then negotiated down to the "regular" medium rate of $115, which means the initial $95 quote was a lie. I understand a quote is a quote, and not indicative of the final price (edit: so apparently a quote IS final price, an estimate is not, Nevertheles...), but if your standard rate for a medium dog is $20 more than what you are quoting people for medium dogs, that is a bait and switch.
I still left a $20 tip because we appreciated the short-notice and driving up to us, the grooming work was a 6.5-7/10. Looks good, some noticeable errors but nothign glaring.
Also for some reason my dog is now terrified even in the house now; he was scared going in so I can't say the groomer necessarily did something bad, but this is the first time i've gotten anything less than a smiling, jumping, licking, happy fluffball back from a groomer.
Finally he arrived a half hour early, which is better than late I guess, but if not for Corona Virus and being stuck at home, there is a sizeable chance this individual would've either left and claimed we missed him (since we would've been coming back from lunch) or waited and charged us for the time he was waiting (one of his (changing) justifications for charging us double was that it took him twice as long to do the dog) (english is not his first language, so perhaps this was a langauge barrier thing and we wasn't making up excuses, merely miscommunciating)
In fairness this is a mobile groomer, which we greatly appreciated, and we were squeezed in for the next day, but his attitude is absolutely terrible, see attached photo.

Edit: After recieving feedback from the vendor that was basically "up yours" and his continued efforts to remove the screenshots of what he sent me on Google Reviews....
I reiterate, if he had INITIALLY quoted us $185, or even $150 then $185 would've been more acceptable, but then I probably wouldn't have gone with him. Our normal dog groomer charges $125. Also, when you quote someone a price, you dont get to charge double! In fact a quote is legally binding, but given english isn't your first lanugage, i can understand if you MEANT to say estimate.
Still If you go over because of your own inefficiency that is not the employers fault. I dont have to pay extra for your own failure to adequately estimate your own expenses or time - you took 2 hours, so if you state it took you double the time you thought, that means you thought it would only take 1 hour. Every other groomer estimates 3 for him, because he is a doodle.
If you saw my dog and believed he was a "large" you should've said that BEFORE you completed the work. Also attached, a photo of my "Large" dog. He certainly is not "large" by this definition: https://www.petfinder.com/dog-breeds/collections/medium-sized-dog-breeds/ (Google's)
Finally you say he was matted, maybe some minor matts. WE TOLD YOU that we HAD CUT OUT A FEW matts and couldn't find anymore, but to be wary. We were searching high and low, so we certainly didnt miss any big ones, maybe some pea-sized ones, and even then not that many (we'd also just finished checking him for ticks, so you can be sure we would've noticed tiny bumps in his fur! (we actually found and removed 4)) read more
