**DEEPLY UPSETTING GROOMING EXPERIENCE NOT RECOMMENDED FOR A KEESHOND. I brought my two Keeshonds to Beau Chien expecting professional, breed appropriate grooming (especially when I was told by Alex he had experience grooming Keeshonds). Unfortunately, this turned into the worst grooming experience me and my two dogs ever had! Keeshonds are a double-coated dog breed and proper grooming requires preserving the coat (especially their signature mane). My female's mane was completely chopped off, drastically changing her appearance and coat structure. She barely resembled a Keeshond and looked more like a Polar Bear. My male's grooming was very concerning to me! About a week and a half (after their grooming appointment at Beau Chien) I took them to get their hair brushed from a groomer who had pointed out to me how thin my males mane was and showed me multiple bald patches on his neck where his hair had clearly been pulled out rather than gently brushed. or properly de-matted. Seeing those areas where his hair was gone had extremely upset me. Prior to their grooming at Beau Chien I had taken them to their regular groomers in Bethel. However, my groomer was fully booked and would not be able to groom them for another month. She came out to see the both of my dogs as she always did and checked their coats (a regular thing she does). I left there and went home. A week later I had taken them to Beau Chien. After this experience at Beau Chien I went back to my regular groomer to show her the chop job they each had. My groomer was in shock (as I had been when I saw my female) when she saw how the female's mane was completely chopped off as well as all her fur too. It looked like she was groomed by EDWARD SCISSOR HANDS! My groomer told me that both my Keeshonds were no where near severely matted and that there was absolutely no need to drastically chop off their hair female's mane and a huge majority of her fur and same with my male. She said that an experienced and patient groomer (familiar with the breed) would have safely brushed through her mane and not have chopped it all off which I agree with her a 100%! When I contacted the owner to discuss what had happened to my two dogs, I was told "It was the Humane thing to do" We are not there to euthanize my dog, we were there for them to get groomed!! I was in shock the owner said that to me! Humane grooming should never result in unnecessary coat removal or bald patches on my dog's throat. This experience left me feeling that there was a lack of breed specific knowledge, poor handling of double-coated dogs. NO WILLINGNESS to ACKNOWLEDGE CLIENT CONCERNS AFTERWARDS. We love Beau Chien! My 2 rescue chows came to us with beautiful, but VERY long coats, and mats behind their ears. One even had mats under her front legs too. After a quick meet and greet, an appointment was scheduled. The staff were SO GREAT with my girls. It was an extensive job they had, I asked for a very short cut, due to the mats, and it being the height of summer. The staff delivered, above and beyond all my expectations. Went in there this morning out of convenience for the first time. Dragged my 6 week old baby out of desperation as I needed my dogs nails clipped but when I got there at 10 am and the place was empty I asked if I needed and app or if they could just clip his nails I was told that the person that was there was alone and couldn't help me and asked me to come back 11/2 later. We have received awesome service both times we have gone to Beau Chien. The lady (who I believe is the owner) is friendly, kind, and fast. Took both of our dogs to be groomed and they were done in 3 hours and didn't act traumatized by being there like other places. We recently took my basset hound to get her nails trimmed and the same kind lady fit us in as a walk in and was able to trim and buff all nails in less than 5 minutes (something that usually takes me an hour for 1 paw)! Beau Chien is wonderful! I have a 14 year-old Lab who had never been to a groomer before a few months ago, and has old age issues with his joints.
