The store was clean, well stocked, neat and wow, were the aisles wide compared to my local stores. Also, this was the first Aldi I have been in that has self checkout. Since we only purchased one item, that was definitely appreciated! I'm glad to know that I don't have to rely on just Walmart when I'm in U.P., and especially in Iron Mountain. Whew! 26/2025

I knew exactly why she asked this, she didnt want to help me because if i was using my card i could have gone in the self checkout. She then asked the man behind me if he was using card or cash and he said card. SHE THEN REPLIES... "well the self checkouts are open" as he has a full cart of groceries. The man was very upset with her and they argued and she made it very awkward for me. I love aldi but I hope I dont see this older woman when I go there next. Her excuse was "well im new". This is not the way to treat customers. If they come up to your line, dont tell them to go somewhere else. RUDE

The staff is always very friendly, tolerant of unending stream of out-of-towners, and ready to help you find what you need. The only downfall is the high prices, but that's true of every small, northwoods grocery I've ever been to. There's simply not enough volume to offer low prices, but since I'm on vacation I don't worry too much about it. To give you an idea of price point, it's about $3 for a gallon of water, nearly $5 for a bag of M&Ms, and a few bucks for a loaf of bread. Ouch.

Good selection of produce (bigger section of the store than i remembered last). I was surprised to see Kefir offered in the dairy section, and of course, like all things in the Northwoods-- they had a large beer selection-- but mainly of national brands (not so many that were local or small breweries). Great place to pick up the essentials and not-so-essentials. It also looks like if you ask someone there who orders the items there-- you might be able to work through them to get something specific... especially since something like Kefir was there!

I didn't tell you that I think cashiers should smile and be friendly, though that's MY opinion. Their deli and bakery are just trash now. It's sad how it's gone downhill and they are headquartered in Medford- there are farms everywhere. They could be trucking in some fabulous Amish made breads, local produce and meats. Why they don't, I have no idea. But I go out of my way to avoid this store now, ESPECIALLY if I see Connie at the cash register.

As a long time consumer of organic products and staunch supporter of mom and pop businesses, Grass…read moreRoots gets two stars for being a mom and pop. The minus three stars is due to: 1) ABSURDLY high prices (much higher than Wholefoods "because it's remote" so I was told) 2) tiny and cramped with a very biased selection 3) in an invconvenient location a few miles out of town 4) spreading propaganda about certain products based on personal preference and higher profit margin on lower quality or less beneficial products In short, a greedy, self-serving mom and pop that does not care about its customers. Know what you want and why or possibly be subjected to misinformation, and call before you go because what you want may need to be ordered. They also sometimes close early (typical in Eagle River). Another case of professionalism and decent customer care tossed under the bus. You'll find better prices and selection, more help and less bias at Golden Harvest in Rhinelander. The money spent for gas is easily recovered in price differences between the two stores. Grassroots has at least established the need for an organic grocer and product provider in the Eagle River area, however it needs a bit of competition for better grounding in reality.
