Oak Tree Inn - View of the kitchen and desk area from the bed. I took the photo as we were checking out, so it's a bit messy.

Tldr: Go here if you value good breakfast and good WiFi over cushy comfort…read more This is a nice enough hotel, but it's definitely meant for the single traveler. My husband and I came here, thinking it was a local hotel and not a chain, but it is a chain(albeit a dispersed one), specifically meant for railroad/construction employees (This website explains that: https://lodgingenterprises.com). The hotel rooms had a full kitchenette: full-size refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and a two-burner little induction stove top. There was a pot and a pan, a single bowl, a single plate, a single set of silverware (fork, knife, spoon), and a single coffee cup. The bed was set up for one person (two pillow, stacked on top of each other in the middle of the bed, and there were only two bath towels ( the THINNEST towels I've ever experienced in a hotel, but adequate). That being said, it was nice enough. The breakfast was made-to-order (You get vouchers for two eggs, any style, hash browns, choice of sausage, bacon or ham, and choice of toast or pancake, plus coffee or tea). It's definitely better than your average hotel breakfast. And the WiFi was free, and reliable--we watched the latest Game Of Thrones on our laptop, and it didn't buffer at all. The blackout curtains were the best blackout curtains I've ever had in a hotel room, too. The bathtub was deeper than average, which made for a nice soak after a week of camping. The mattress was firm but not uncomfortable (and I have a back injury, so I'm particularly sensitive to that). They do have a AAA rate, but be sure to ask for it at the beginning, or they'll have to redo your reservation completely :) All in all, this hotel was serviceable, but not the local gem we were expecting after reading the existing Yelp reviews.

Weekend stay, 2 days, 3 nights. Got in Friday night and went to eat. Got back and realized the TV,…read morefridge, and microwave did not work. Brought it to the front desk's attention the next morning and was told they would take a look and let me know. They did not take a look. They did not let me know. They must have forgot. I'm assuming it was a bad outlet, thrown breaker, something simple as all the other outlets in the room worked. I was leaning going 2 stars because the gentleman I spoke with at the front desk about the issue that morning was very friendly and pleasant to talk to. However, after a week of reflection, a smiling face doesn't matter much if there's no follow up or follow through on your word. I feel that is a tough, but fair, critique. On a more lighthearted note, was not a fan of the pillows, to put it nicely they were cheap. They also do allow pets which is great if you're traveling with one. If you aren't, and said pet is barking at 11pm when you just want to sleep, and the TV doesn't work to try and drown the Yipper out, (It failed to meet my minimum size requirement to be called a dog), and the pillow is unpleasant. Overall, I didn't sign up to stay at a 5-star, world class resort. No TV? Ok, I'll look at my phone. No fridge? Gas station is right next door for a cold drink... just have to drink it before it gets warm. No microwave? Went out to eat and didn't bring back leftovers. None of the above criticisms were life-altering they were just small inconveniences. Unfortunately during this stay, many minor inconveniences all struck together at once. And I think it would be a safe guess to say, my room was likely the only one with the above issues. Everyone else that weekend was likely just fine. I just had the bad luck to get a bad room. Riverside served it's purpose. It was a roof to snooze under for a few hours a night. Functional amenities included running water, electricity, and A/C. That's all you really need, right? I picked a local business over a chain to be supportive. In this case, however, I wish I went with a standard chain hotel. In 2023, a hotel simply can't have basic amenities such as a TV or mini-fridge not work in a room. Even if they go unused during a stay they have to at least work. As I said above, I likely just had the bad luck of having the one bad room with those problems. I've spent about a little over an hour on this review. This is the first one-star that I have left for a business where I really wanted to make sure I left thoughtful criticism without being disrespectful. Most of the time I am happy to go "full-Karen" and use humor to vent frustrations about an experience unfiltered. I wanted to make sure that despite this being a one-star review that it was not a burial of the business. Hopefully, they can look into some of the above criticisms and make sure all their rooms have everything working properly so the next guests have a better experience than I did. All the best.
