Our hostess gave us the choice of coming up to the house for breakfast or bringing down a basket in the morning. Since we were on our honeymoon and didn't really want to be bothered, we opted for the basket. I thought it was going to be bagels or store bought muffins or something like that. Nope! She made homemade breakfast sandwiches, fresh fruit, and homemade muffins. Everything was wrapped up to keep it nice and warm. When she delivered it, she rang the doorbell (to let us know when food was there) then walked away. No bother, no fuss. The only thing I was not crazy about was that I wish the jets on the hot tub would have been more powerful. But it easily fit us both and was comfortable, so it's not much of a complaint. We will definitely be back for an anniversary.

This is a family campground, clean, well maintained and beautifully situated on the river. However, it is on a river and with that comes rocks, mud, potential flooding, wildlife, insects, and some hardy partiers. There will be spiders in your cabin, the carpet is not clean, the furniture is old, lines are not plush, and pillows are flat. But toilets flush, water from the spigot will run clear after a few minutes and the mud usually dries up pretty quickly. This campground has quiet hours and isn't crazy full of drunks, like others in the area. But it is a take out spot for paddlers, so you will be entertained by floaters at the end of their day of drinking. Typically a nice rocky beach exists and you can hang at the river. Now if it's been raining a lot the beach may be gone. This is rare. Indian Springs is an ideal place to stay to float. At your appointed time you and all your coolers get to go on a crazy ride on an old school bus where you'll be given your raft, canoe or kayak for the day. Then you simply paddle down a cool, clear, fairly shallow river until you return to your campground for a hot shower. Even hot meals are served on the weekends (breakfast and suppers). Let's talk about the term "resort." It is used very loosely in this part of MO. The five stars is not for fancy luxury. It's for practicality. In your cabin, You can expect electricity, clean linens, dorm sized fridge, running water, air conditioning, beds and a few chairs and a table on a sort of screened porch. Fire circles, trash cans and some playground equipment are available outside. Pack the kids' bikes, a pet if you're willing to pay the pet fee/fine and your own beer. While ice is available, no cold beer is sold at the store. Horseshoe pits and shoes are available for free. Our family finds this campground awesome for our needs. We have a large group (60-70 people of all ages--this year we ranged from 4 to 80 years old. We rent cabins all close to each other, some choose the extra tiny motel rooms, while some families camp (not recommended for tent camping as too prone to flooding/standing water). We make large group meals--imagine packing crockpots, roasters, fish fryers, etc. There is a small swimming pool--but I believe the owners have had it with replacing the liner so it is going to be turned into a lillypad pond. We will miss it. But we've already put down our deposit for next year!

The Bridge before entering the road to the cabin is finished and cause no delays. The gravel road to the cabins is easy to drive through. Checking in was a breeze since we did not have to stop or wait for someone to let us in the cabin. Your key is a code provided to you for your convenience. We stayed in the Meadows cabin (closest to the creek), which was a perfect size for the family and (pet friendly-$25 fee). (1 king size bed, 2 full size beds, 1st bathroom with Jacuzzi-hair dryer, 2nd bathroom with tub and shower head) The cabin was very clean, good mattresses, stocked with towels and extra linens. Kitchen was stocked with daily essential supplies such as cooking & baking pots, utensils, paper supplies, and the oven even works. The cabin also has board games, iron/board, and cleaning supplies. There a 42" inch t.v. with satellite dish service. The chimney works great and keeps you warm and makes the cabin feel homie. There is a fire pit area plus seating right outside the cabin, grill (charcoal, fire wood available to purchase for $5 each). The front porch is long and has eating table and plenty of seating. About a 5-7 minute walk from the Meadows cabin there is a creek that is absolutely fabulous. The water level is perfect for kids including for toddlers. There is plenty for kids to explore and enjoy the nature experience. Recommend to bring some folding chairs and beach towel especially if you have little ones. If you like astronomy it is gorgeous at night looking up at the stars. The owners have a heard of cows that are very friendly located when you enter the road to the cabins. My 9 year old absolutely loved them. For your convenience and maximize your experience there is NO internet in the cabin, but if you need to connect you can walk near the Lodge cabin/garage area and hopefully you can get some juice. When you start driving into Steelville town you will start getting reception in some areas. Definitely complete connection in Cuba town. There is a Dollar General store (9am-10pm hours) in Steelville town (15 min drive from the cabin) for your convenience and stocked with a lot of merchandise including some shelf groceries. There was a small convenient store in Cherryville main road, however I was not able to go in there since they close at 5 pm. Exploring Meramec Springs Park is a must see. GPS driving time was approximately 30 mins. Take a camera the scenery is gorgeous! If you love fishing this is the place for you. Lots of trout, but recommend to go at early hours to increase your chances of a good catch. The entrance fee was $5 per car. The fishing license was $ 20 for one day. Park personnel do go around checking for your license, therefore it is recommended to attach the fishing license on you where it can be seen visibly (ask for a safety pin when you purchase the license). The Meramec Springs Park Museum is also a good place to stop. It is very educational and kids can enjoy their exhibits (wear a mask). Restrooms in the museum have 3-4 stalls and very clean. Fair Winds Cabin Resort was an awesome experience. Would definitely go back. My 9 year old loved everything about it. The owners are very easy going and friendly.
