I first discovered SunWest FCU when I purchased a car last March. They gave me a great low rate that was significantly lower than the large finance companies the dealer shopped to get my loan bought. Fast forward to today. I applied for a MasterCard through SunWest to make business purchases and was approved again for a great rate! Blake Thurmond realizing that was out of state and could not come in for a direct signing, put together a DocuSign email so that I could sign the loan agreement electronically. Blake was super helpful, kind, competent and efficient. I can't say enough good things about this credit union. They have made a customer for life! read more

I do not know why this site insists I am in SF, I am not. One star for the local branch employees. Zero stars for the overall banking experience. First opened an account with SunWest several years ago. I am happy with my local branch, nice people work there. But like many here it is when you have to deal with the corporate side of this bank that your experience takes a turn for the worst. In April they up dated their online banking site. Now it is not possible to see anything on your account more than a few months old. I have a few checks out that had not yet cleared and the only way I can check on them is to call the corporate Number. Also I have experienced transactions occurring in the wrong order Exmp: I transfer money from one account to the other on the 2 of the month, and it immediately shows up on my account dated for the 1st. I may not have had the money in the account the day before I did the transfer! Now so far I don't think it's caused me to overdraft, but now I have to wait an extra day to be sure it wont happen. Now this morning I try to go to my online banking and find I have to agree to their new terms and conditions! They say it's to make my account more secure, and insure I am the only one accessing my on line account, however most to the terms and conditions have nothing to do with account security. According to their new terms and conditions they can refuse to pay for my prescriptions! Literally it reads as if they could refuse to pay for any purchase, at anytime for any reason. Terms like "hate speech" can be used to deny payment. I do not want my bank to be politically correct, I want my bank to be financially savvy. I can not, in good conscience, recommend SunWest and I will be taking my money elsewhere ASAP! read more

Signed up for car loan through a dealership. I never received a bill or any information on how to pay and then I start receiving daily calls on my work phone, which I dont really monitor and was not set up as a primary, saying that I'm late on payment. I tried called multiple times and system was down. Replied to an email and to a text and there was no acknowledgement at all. My wife called and tried to get info on how to pay but they wouldn't provide an address to send payment since she wasn't on the loan. She didnt ask for any financial information at all. Not easy to work with...try another company for your auto loan or banking needs. read more

If you want a bank that doesn't give you headaches and can quickly help you with your needs this is not the bank for you. You cannot lock your card if you happen to misplace it, you cannot file your own dispute or fraud claim, if you want to block a merchant who has your bank information you'll have to pay a $32 dollars fee, when you ask for overdraft protection they have two options which they don't clarify before signing you up, they have "insufficient funds" charge of $32 change the words up because its not the $32 dollars fee for overdraft which again is the SAME THING. If you lose your card on the weekend and cannot provide their third party they partner with they are just as useless if you can't provide the card number YOU JUST LOST , they will ask for your name, bank institution and tell you they cannot locate your account. As for the overdraft fee if they made a mistake on their end and don't sign you up for "OVERDRAFT PROTECTION" they will not refund your money back :) credit unions are suppose to be typically better at taking care of their customers, but Sunwest did not get that memo! -Good day :) read more

Worst credit union experience EVER! Beyond frustration, they have COST me $2,000. To get revenge, an ex hacked my insurance login and cancelled my policies without my knowledge. Sunwest waited until 10 days AFTER their "30-day grace" to notify me of non-covered collateral and charged me almost $2,000 for a few weeks of lender-only insurance coverage. I have had to file a complaint with the AZ department of insurance because they simply don't care. Now I need a payoff quote to refinance my vehicle with a different lender and never have to hear the name Sunwest again, and I'm #26 in the queue Go literally ANYWHERE else. read more

This is my second review. I got an email saying the first was not accepted because flagged... I needed assistance with my account and Serina Shaw was able to guide me through the process. She was listened patiently and clarified what each issues was in order to get them resolved. Her customer service is exemplary. After assistance with the issues I needed fixed, she suggested some products that would maximize my earnings. She provided several suggestions and explained in detail. After the frustrations of previous companies customer service, which just wasn't, I didn't expect much from this encounter. after I receive my last direct deposit I will no longer use the card or bank. I already have an alternate bank set up that I will be doing business with. I've been looking at my direct deposit sit in the pending status for 2 days. I have bills that are due and this is 3rd time this has happened. It makes no sense to let me see my money but have no access to it. I was advised I wouldn't have to wait on my money when I started, I called customer service yesterday and I was told that wasn't true And I have to wait. If I could give Stephanie 10 stars I would. My 92-year-old invalid mother called me, very distraught. Someone had gained fraudulent access to her checking account. I've never heard so so panicked. I'm a signatory on her account, so I went to the credit union office. I myself was rather agitated with a high level of anxiety. in a bit of a panicked voice, I explained the problem to Stephanie. She calmly said, "I can take care of it. Just sit over here and I will take care of it." She then spent an enormous amount of time with me filling out all the dispute forms, closing the account, opening a new one, etc. She really put me at ease. I was a first time car buyer (loan) they ran my credit and afterwards told me I never bought a car before from a dealer, if they had asked I would have told them... results they do a hard hit on my credit and tell me they won't loan to me. Stephanie is outstanding! I recently signed up and she patiently explained all the different options and features. She's very knowledgeable, patient, and professional. Having a bankruptcy 10 years ago, I thought I'd have to apply for a secured credit card, but she saw my credit report and suggested I apply for a regular credit card. I applied and was approved! I'm now on my way to re-building my credit, thanks to her. There was one glitch in the process, and she got it resolved immediately, and gave me advice on how to improve my checksys report. I was worried had been to the branch a week earlier for a personal loan unfortunately declined, however this is due to my poor credit. Today I went in to make a deposit and got in line - socially distanced - and almost immediately a man came in right behind me and got very close to me so I turned around to ask him to step back and he is not wearing a mask! I just left this bank to do a Sharebranch Deposit. I think the teller could learn to listen to instructions from a customer. When a customer says to deposit into the "checking account" it cannot be any more clear. If the teller is unsure because it is an out of state account, one would use common sense and ask to verify the correct account. I believe this is the basics of customer service. Beyond rude and less than helpful. My dad had an account through sunwest and I was listed as the payable upon death and also as the executor of his estate. I came in once I got the death certificate, their paperwork showing me as the beneficiary. Well, They refused me access to his account, accused me of fraud and the teller asked the manager if she should call the cops on me. After about 20 minutes they decided that they were holding the money for social security and I would not be getting it. Then they locked me out of being able to view the account. I've been a member of Sunwest Federal Credit Union for over 5 years. I find both the bank tellers and managers to be personable as well as knowledgeable and professional. They go out of their way to assist me whether it's making a deposit or withdrawal or walking me to the door if I'm waiting for a ride near closing. They let me sit inside. I also find when I call in their customer service representatives are extremely helpful. I spoke to one today - Jennine, didn't have the answer immediately put me on a short hold and provided all the answers. Very important point, I am not a large depositor. In fact, this is where I was able to rebuild my credit scores using their MasterCard. If you want personal service, short wait in the lobby it never has more than two or three people in line. In today's world of technology, automation, and online banking- on line everything, real customer service is a rare find. After a rough divorce with my credit affected, getting loans has been stressful to say the least. In spite of my excellent credit history the divorce issue pops up in one way or another every time. I refinanced a car with Sun West in the past and they were great. I was able to purchase a new vehicle recently but the interest rate was high. I made several payments and decided to try a refinance with Sun West again as they have special offers and can lower interest rate significantly. I went to the Peoria branch. Gladys handled my application with professionalism and kindness, she submitted the paperwork for my divorce and we waited. Again pops up a divorce surprise and my refinance was denied. I called Gladys and she submitted additional paperwork for review by the finance manager. I called again in a few days and spoke with the branch manager, Lori as Gladys was off for the day. She listened with empathy and gave me my loan officers contact number. She advised me of points to make for my loan to be reconsidered. They both ensured all the necessary documents and information got to the right people. When I called back several times they knew who I was and were beyond nice to me. My loan officer was Ophelia who was also amazing. I called several times and every time she treated me with respect and empathy and listened to my story. She went directly to the finance manager and told my story. Even though I was persistent and frustrated every single person was nice to me. Thanks to these 3 ladies willingness to listen, understand, and advocate for me my refinance was approved!!! They didn't have to do anything extra they could have just left it at declined but they went above and beyond for me. The personalization and customer service were beyond anything I have experienced in so long, maybe even ever! When I went to the branch to complete my paperwork, every one there seemed to know me and greeted me with a smile and called me by my name. Lori came over and said hi and congratulations. My husband and I have been members of SunWest Credit Union for years. We've been customers of other banks but SunWest is the BEST BANK we have ever done business with. When I call with a problem they recognize my name and do whatever is in their power to help me straighten out issues that have affected our accounts. Their customer service is terrific! It is just so easy to do banking with this institution. I just spoke with a teller by the name of Stephanie. She normally works as a teller but is currently helping in the call center due to the Covid-19 pandemic. I gave her all the information she needed to help me with my mega problems.
