My mom had gone here for rehab. I was never so disappointed in a facility in my life. Not only was…read moreshe worse when she checked herself out, then when she went in. While she was there she was not eating and sleeping for two days. If I was not there to push them to do anything, the testing would not have been done to find out that she had Ilias. Thank goodness it was discovered in time. She was put on an antibiotic, otherwise it could've been pretty serious. Then a few days later, she got Covid and pneumonia and had to go back into the hospital. When she returned there from the hospital she was pretty much put in a room, and really did not get much care. She would ask to get her depends changed and end up sitting in her dirty depends for two hours before anyone would even come and do anything. She had no energy, and could not walk or stand on her own. At this point, she had been going through everything she was going through for eight weeks. She needed help to go to the bathroom. The staff member just pushed the wheelchair to the door and told her to go ahead. My mom asked for a boost and the girl said I'm not hurting my back to help you and left her there. So she could not go to the bathroom. Thank God, I surprised my mom and showed up for a visit that day, because I live out of state. I ended up having to help her to the bathroom and when we got back near her bed, she fell. That same staff member came in and said why didn't you ask for help. That's when I went off on her. She told me she was given the wrong information about my mom's abilities and said that she was giving her tough love. I'm sorry that is not tough love that is abuse. It is Unacceptable to treat, elderly people the way that some of the staff members there treated her. I noticed when I was there with her that she got treated a little bit better. Funny how that works. I used to do that kind of work and I know you don't get paid that much. But if you hate your job that much then go do something else. Because people should not get treated the way that my mom was treated in this facility. Don't get me wrong. There were a few really awesome people that work there. But the majority of them should not be working in that type of facility. I would not send my worst enemy there for care.

Rhonda, who oversees the apartment residents is amazing. Also Tina in housekeeping always is willing to go the extra mile. They understand how to work with the elderly. My uncle also had a stint in the rehab unit, which is excellent as well. Now, unfortunately, he is in hospice on the nursing home wing...but the entire staff is outstanding. The atmosphere is warm and homelike. Unlike the skilled nursing facility that my mother-in-law is in Illinois which is sterile and sad, Glendale has something going on for their residents all the time...there are multiple areas for activities and chatting. The connections between the staff and the residents is authentic and loving. They have a tough job...but 99% of them seem as though this is not a job---but a calling. Whether I'm talking to the Director or to the nurses or housekeeping staff...they all do everything they can to make the residents feel loved. I appreciate how insightful they are and how they are empowered to make suggestions and share ideas on how to make life better for each person. They even let me bring my dog in to visit---allowing him to sleep with my Uncle and visit the other residents. Can't say enough good things. And...even better, is that they are one of the less expensive options. If you are struggling with where to take your loved one---Glendale Gardens is the place to go!

My father was a resident in the Maple Wood Alzheimer's Special Care facility for the last five…read moremonths of his life. This facility was absolutely wonderful for him! He had previously spent a few weeks in a different high quality nursing home, but he did terribly there due to his desire to constantly be on the move and becoming overstimulated by the noise and activity. He actually was expelled from that facility due to his restlessness and interference with other residents - such as going into their rooms and bothering them. Since all of the patients in Maple Wood suffer from similar cognitive limitations, his behavior was not as disturbing to the other residents and he enjoyed the quieter environment. He loved to walk the hallways and could stop and sit in readily available and comfortable seating. [By regulation, chairs are not allowed in the hallways of most nursing homes.] The staff were WONDERFUL. They obviously cared for dad and did their best to keep him nicely dressed and groomed - which was not easy due to his resistance to "help" and his penchant for "borrowing" other peoples belongings. The food was also wonderful, which resulted in his gaining weight (he had been anorexic) shortly after moving in. When dad began his terminal decline, the administration and staff gave us the opportunity of involving hospice and he passed away peacefully in his room with family members at his side. I never fully relaxed prior to dad's living at Maple Wood. I always had concern in the back of my mind that he would get himself into some sort of trouble and would either harm himself (accidently) or that I or my sister would have to drop everything and run to his rescue. Once dad had moved to Maple Wood, I was able to fully relax when I was away from him, as I knew he was safe and being cared for better than I could!

They in so many words called my husband a drug addict to an accidental overdose of cough medicine. And my husband who has been diagnosed with mild dementia made an honest mistake. This incident occurred while I was still in the hospital recovering from surgery. Thank God for my caring neighbor & landlord who were there while I was in the hospital and heard him fall & found him laying on the floor and called 911 & got an ambulance for him to the hospital; as we don't have any family here in Missouri. This organization is completely unprofessional, uncaring, & unsympathetic! So to anyone who needs these types of services I HIGHLY recommend looking elsewhere! The Administrator who does not have a medical degree, who is only a nurse and who in my opinion doesn't have the right qualifications to hold this administrative position. She should be totally ashamed due to their pathetic attempt to pretend to actually care & then adding insult to injury to tell me on my husband's discharge date that they no longer would accept him. Way to go Terrace Home Health & Hospice showing your complete lack of care and compassion for people in need! One last note, NEVER EVER USE THIS ORGANIZATION AS THEY WILL LET YOU DOWN!!! Trust me fellow Springfield, MO families there are other places who actually care & are not judgemental & condescending! A Mercy social worker in very short order found an amazingly caring organization who showed up on my doorstep the very day after my husband's discharge Kudos to all the wonderful caring people who helped my husband to get the care he urgently needed. Thank you Mercy Hospital to a wonderful social worker who helped me out in a very disconcerting situation & now am getting the care I desperately needed for my husband. Thank you Mercy to your home health providers who are amazing & kind!

MIL accepted even though she has dementia, is a fall risk and an escape artist. She is NOt in memory care. Had to ask for a bed bath after 5 days in and still was not given until next evening after more requests! Family hired sitters 24/7. Pretty much a mess but very typical of how administrators run their facilities. Speaking of administrators: do your job! Get out of your office and check on the staff and the residents. Make sure your nurses and med tech are not on their phones!! I have seen this problem all over that building. The building is a nightmare to navigate. No room number guides on hallways. You just stumble around until you find someone to ask for help. And that's a big if. Also, the main door is some distance from the parking area. Elderly who are disabled have to walk quite far. There should be handicapped parking much closer to the front door. Would not recommend this place.

My cousin asked that they correct their records and they did not. Some of the med techs would come in and only give me some of my meds. I would ask where the missing meds were and more than once they would ask me what was missing. I told them to check their records. They should know what I take. There is a part of your record called a *medication record.* Awesome for finding out what meds you are supposed to take. One med they pushed me to take and because of the side effects I told them I was NOT going to take until I talked to my doctor. When the facility MD came to my room he told me that the hospital ordered it. I have since seen my PCP and he said it was never ordered by any of the hospital staff. I am diabetic and there was no correlation 60% of the time regarding the timing of my insulin and the timing of meals. One day the nurse came in to check my blood sugar after my meal and asked did I eat my lunch because my sugar was so low. I had. Small portions and gross but I did eat it. One evening they brought in a high carb meal. I said I wouldn't eat it and asked them to bring me something else. They said they would and they didn't. I asked that they find someone to explain why I was not going to eat that night or tell me the nearest restaurant and I would take a cab for a decent meal. They did at that point bring me 2 cold boiled eggs and 2-4 oz containers of full sugar yogurt. A grand total of 260 calories. I told them Lean Cuisine doesn't even make meals that small. I had a friend bring me in 2 boxes of shelf stable milk after that because you have to eat protein in order to gain your strength back. Check with Google. I thought everyone knew that. I told one of my visitors that I thought this was 3rd world rehab and started to consider leaving there with or without medical approval. Oh but wait - maybe them making patients miserable is how they get them rehabbed. At the hospital I was only able to get up with assistance. Roll through the doors at Spring Valley and instantly became independent. Simply amazing!! One night I called using the "call button" and waited 1& 1/2 hours with no answer. I picked up my phone and called in in order to get some service. Was told they were short staffed. They told me they had 1 shower for the facility. Nope. I guess I'll go home dirty. I talked to the Director of Nursing, a Nurse Practitioner from the facility, a Nurse Practitioner from my insurance company, and the doctor (who claimed that the hospital ordered a medication that they had not) and no one seemed even slightly concerned. As someone else wrote "I would give them zero stars if I could." Please - unless you are going to stay with your loved one - do NOT agree to moving them there.
