I went here with one of my besties for a mani-pedi date. As I walked into Sunshine we were greeted by a welcoming staff and serenaded by the classical music playing. The place is a reasonable size, you could think of taking a group of 5-7 girlfriends here for a mani-pedi date and feel like you had the place to yourself because of the intimate nature of the place. I was seated in one of those lounge chairs for my manicure. At first, my attendant did a good job and I had no complaints or qualms until I began my manicure. It is customary to ask your customer how you would like you nails, square or round etc, but she began doing my nails rounded when I wanted them square. Then when it came time to pay I was unable to give her a 20% tip like I over heard other customers were giving, but I knew what I could afford. The tab had already come up to $37 for the mani-pedi. I saw her whole demeanor change and when she began to finish up my nails she did a choppy job. I mean, I am on a budget and to think , I did not have to give her a tip at all. The top off her bad customer service she did not give me the complimentary message while my nails were drying. I took a mental note of all of this and decided I would not go here again! Caution: When you choose your color, be sure to ask what the price is for that particular choice because some nail polishes cost substantially more than others (and I don't mean "gel" polishes which, of course, cost much more). I mean there are some polishes that are stored in the same shelves as any other nail polishes and they cost up to 50% more than regular nail polishes and there is no signage to that effect---so it's best to ask what the prices are. When I get my nails and toes done, I'm really particular about the process. Was I greeted properly or yelled at? Is the ambiance clean and calming or hectic and stressful? Is it packed or is there just enough of a stream of clients coming in and out. I was super thrilled with my experience at Sunshine Nails. After going to a few places, this was the only place open late on a Sunday night. The nail technician was very accommodating and specific. She scrubbed my feet (which I love), while I leaned back and enjoyed my massage. I always pay attention to how they file, how they push back my cuticles and just overall experience. Because the service is so good, it will cost you upwards of $40-$50 to get your nails and toes done, but it's worth it. I will definitely return. read more

Wonderful This is a terrific place to get a manicure, pedicure, and massage. Every person that works there is very polite, and very skilled. For me, it's in the sweet spot of pampering v. cost, which makes it a terrific value in my eyes. It's a very soothing atmosphere, and moderately priced. It's not an over the top luxury spa, nor is it a bare bones experience. However, they offer every service you could conceivably want, priced fairly for the level of skill, quality of products used, and service delivered. Came here on Memorial Day Monday to meet up with a friend visiting (I hadn't seen her in 2 years). She mentioned that this was the place Catherine Zeta-Jones comes to get her nails done. Sold, I'm there. Note that this the first time I have ever gotten a pedicure in the US (the other time being in Shanghai) so I didn't really know what to expect. I thought the whole foot/leg treatment was great and 5 days later my toes are still singing happy with nail color. A pedicure is $31! Is that how much they are in NYC? I then opted for a 10 minute chair massage for $13. I hadn't gotten a massage in over 2 years and boy did I need one. I was a fan of the hot towel, and even after the timer rang, they tacked on a few more minutes just to give me a thorough massage. read more

As far as nail salons go, New York seems to be all quantity, no quality. After moving to the UWS, I tried a couple places. One was cheap, but they had me in and out with a mani/pedi in 30 minutes. One had me waiting between pedi and mani for 25 minutes, even after I told them I was under time constraints. Another was a pretty lux experience, but left me with no grocery money. Than I found Sunshine. Hello, smiling people opening the door for me! Hello, clean salon and functioning massage chairs. Hello, moderate prices! Hello, hello! I've been coming here for months now and they're great. They take credit card and - this is important - they let you tip on the card! No cash necessary. My only issue is that they display their polish on a table in the center of the room, and it can be hard to gauge true color when you have to look down at the top rather than when the bitty bottles are on a rack against a wall. Other than that, service has been great. I'm here at least every couple weeks. Appointment not necessary but if you're going during peak hours (midday Saturday/Sunday) you may want to consider it. read more

It is quiet and calming, spotlessly clean and through some miracle doesnt wreak of nail polish. $25 for a great Pedi and $13 for a mani are well worth it for the quality. I was SO excited to find this salon in my neighborhood. I went in for a gel manicure before a trip, and the next day noticed my left hand had no shine. A day later, the polish on my left hand completely changed color, and the pink turned into a brownish purple. I went back to the salon a week later when I returned to town to show them. Clearly a mistake was made and the technician left something off of my left hand or missed a step. I was going in for another manicure anyway, and wanted to show them the issue. They were EXTREMELY rude. All I wanted was some sort of gesture and acknowledgement of their mistake. I said that last week had been my first time in as I was new to the neighborhood, and had been excited to make this my regular salon. Their lack of customer service has lost my business. Maybe it was the manicurist, but unfortunately prices for a basic mani/pedi was overpriced and not really worth going. I have it chance expecting a great job and coat, but it was less than average. The basic mani & pedi done at the end was over $50 incl. tip. No extra services or treatments or the such. Basically- There are plenty of other salons in the neighborhood for much less cost and better service. Perhaps this place and their other services such as waxing or massages are great, so please consider this review for your basic mani/pedi. read more

Where the hell do I start .. I've had someone go in ahead of me first even though I was suppose to be first but then got seated . I wanted gel as I have been there before she literally left me soaking for 16 mins as they helped the gentleman in front of me . To continue this terrible customer service, the male manicurist snapped "I know" when I told him the nail polish he'd put on isn't even. Even after putting on a second coat, my nails are still uneven. The cuticles weren't trimmed well either. Wish I'd had as good an experience as some other reviewers. Here's my experience: Things started out well: Didn't have to wait, good selection of colors & polish brands. But another woman came in while I was waiting to be directed to a chair and they sat her down before me. Not a huge deal but they didn't seem concerned with making sure I had the same level of service as the woman who might look like she would leave a bigger tip. Maybe it was just confusion, who can say. Then the manicurist seemed pissed that the polish I was getting taken off had sparkles in it. Understandably it is more difficult, but that is why I'm going to pay someone $30 to fix up my feet. And removing stubborn polish is a part of the job. Then I was only given the "wraps" (paraffin treatment I assume) on my heels, while other ladies getting the exact same service got it on their legs as well. Also my manicurist did not ask how I would like my nails cut (short, round, square) so I had to cut them down the next day. Finally I noticed when I went to cut down my nails that the polish was just slightly uneven at the tips- the color made it to just part the front edge of the toe nail. Don't really care if that spot is painted or not, but it would be best if it could be consistent. Next time I'll just go to Pinky's down the street. Massage was nice. read more

I walked in on a Saturday morning and was greeted with a pleasant and professional staff with classical music playing in the background. I had an amazing one hour massage ($79 including tax) with Lee and then followed by a manicure/pedicure. Initially I was not going to do my nails because they were more expensive than I am accustomed to paying ($35). However, my massage was so stellar I thought I would try nails. Everything is incredibly hygienic with disposal basin liners to disposal foot loofah. The foot and calf massage were excellent. In reference to the earlier post, if you are going to have someone provide you with a service, be prepared to tip. If not, stay at home and do it yourself. Or go to columbus and 72nd where mani/pedis cost $20 ;but you feel like you're in a zoo its so chaotic. Highly recommend this place. read more

This place has changed hands and very quickly lost its charm. They now have massage chairs but a MUCH shorter complimentary massage. The prices have gone up and the punch cards are being discarded (I lost six punches!) for a new point-based system that will give a 4% discount as opposed to 10%. They no longer use disposable liners so they lose points for being highly hygienic, too. The previous owner cared a great deal for his customers experience; the new ones care about money and growing the business and it shows. The entire vibe and atmosphere has changed for the worst. My friends and I are SO disappointed and are looking for a new nail salon. read more

This place, like all nail salons on UWS, is mediocre. It's hit or miss, depending on who's doing your pedicure. I got a really good pedicure and a really bad one. Some people can do massage, some don't. it's clean. They are polite. It's ok. Not better, not worse than any other place on UWS. The only advantage (for you, not for them) is that they are located on 75th Street, not on Columbus avenue and it's never full. So. It's up to you, this place is "A-OK". read more

I had a manicure. Atmosphere: Nice. Soothing, classical music, no bright lights Cleanliness: The re-use of nail files between clients without cleaning or sterilization was off-putting (perhaps they keep a clean set for Zeta-Jones?). Removal of previous nail polish: This is not a category I anticipated adding. However, this was not done completely. I pointed out the left overs. Still not done completely. I waited till the last possible minute (right before base coat) and asked for some cotton and acetone (my previous was a dark purple and I wanted a lighter color). Seeing me wiping my nails, the owner came by and was able to remove the leftover nail polish. Cuticle care: Pretty good Nail shaping: I asked for a natural shape (same as my nails were when I walked in) and ended up with square with rounded edges, but the nails were all same shape/length. Nail color: Applied well, pretty even, no smudges. Lasted 3 days (my usual is 5). Nice bonus: A mini back rub while you dry Payment: Credit cards accepted even for just a mani, and can put the tip on it. Overall: I would go back if in desperate straits, but the nail file reuse is unsavory and hard to overlook. read more

44 dollars for a mani pedi without polish where she made me bleed by cutting my cuticles too deeply. Three of the employees were involved in a dispute, throwing shade at each other, giggling and making comments in two languages. Not gonna lie, this was semi entertaining until I started getting cut up then got the bill. After that it was just downright unprofessional. I love that they stay open late. My girl was nice but they try to be slick & over charge you. I was too tired to argue but they threw in 2 extra dollars on the mani then another 3 for "tax". Which did not add up. She also charged me $15 for for what she originally quoted a $12 massage. It was really petty. I also had to insist that she use a fresh nail file. I have such mixed feelings about this place. The staff is friendly and kind and everything seemed very clean. I think their regular pedicure is as good as the upgraded "spa pedicure" at many other salons. However, I recently had a very bad experience. I went in and asked for a gel manicure and a regular pedicure. The pedicure went fine, but the trouble started with the manicure. First of all, Michael cut my nails VERY short, which is a shame because they were grown out beautifully and I was getting the manicure specifically for an event - they now look like the nails of a 14 year old boy (shorter than the tip of the finger), even though I asked to keep them just past the tip. Then, the gel. He didn't know how long to set the UV lights for, so he guessed and guessed very wrong. By the end the polish was goopy, sticky, and already peeling up at the edges. I didn't have time for them to redo it, and so I told them I would come back the next day. I had already been there for two hours, which to me is ridiculous for the services I got. All in all, if you go to a good technician here you're going to have a good experience. However, for the prices I don't think it should be that hit-or-miss. I would recommend you try another spot. read more

I have to say for the price they charge for a pedicure my experience wasn't anything stellar. 34.00 with tax for a pedicure is really expensive and they did no better of a job then places I go to that charge 25.00 for pedicure and manicure. No extra massage nothing. Not worth it. read more
