The Old Steeple has a variety of seasonal gifts, home goods, a few food items, and decor. I agree…read morewith the other reviews that it's more of a gift store than antique shop. I would estimate that only about 10% of the inventory was antiques and many of these were bigger items like dressers. Several of the products I looked at were made by small businesses, such as the soaps and seasoning I bought. We came in December so the store had a lot of Christmas decor while we were there. I'd love to come back during another time of year to see what they have then as well!

I absolutely have to give this place credit for being such a cool shop, but it fell short of my…read moreexpectations. I paid a quick visit after going to Mayer Bros - this place is right down the street crossing Transit road, and is so easy to spot! They've got a small parking lot beside the building. The Olde Steeple itself is absolutely gorgeous - it's an old church built in 1880, and at one point the building had been burned down almost entirely. Extensive renovations eventually brought the Olde Steeple back to life, giving it new purpose by way of becoming a lovely shop, where you can now find some of the cutest home decor, craft items, even teas and coffee! The small barn in the back was donated to the Olde Steeple in 2010, and houses a ton of cool antique furniture pieces. I thought this place would lean more toward being an antique shop, but I didn't find very many antiques here besides what could be found in the barn. (They're listed in Sunday Driver, which is an antique shop directory for NY, so had guessed they would've had more antiques to offer.) I would classify it more as a country store if anything, though one that leans a little more toward the expensive side. I also thought this place would have had more locally made products. They had some awesome homemade jams, but the tea I bought came from SC, and one of the little decor items I bought came from China. The doily I bought also appeared to be mass-produced. I also noticed a lot of 1803 Candles products, which is a company based out of IL. There's nothing wrong with that, of course, but I would have looked more forward to spending what I did if they maybe had some Alpine Made stuff, or maybe some Amish linens and doilies? Maybe I got the wrong idea about what this place was supposed to be. But I will definitely visit again now that I know what sort of things they offer here. Just...don't plan on doing any serious antiquing at this place. Day 22

Shhhhh I could spend hours in this store. Kirkland's has a great selection of pieces for every room in your house. This is a really good-sized store, too, so you are probably going to get what you need in-stock. Once upon a time, Pier 1 was right down the road from me. When they closed their doors for good, I was a bit bummed because I honestly had forgotten about Kirkland's. I don't go out to this side of town very often, but I was looking up home decor places online when I moved and lo and behold, Kirkland's popped up. I was so happy to walk back in their doors! Yes, there's Home Goods, and who doesn't love Home Goods? They've got a great selection, too, but I find the items at Kirkland's to be a step above. The store is arranged more nicely and is less picked-over. Sometimes at HG, you'll see things that are broken or dented in some way. I've never seen that at Kirkland's. Something else - they've often got a coupon or other discount you can use at the register, but I find their prices to be fair as they sell goods that are not cheaply made and rarely damaged. If you're looking for fall decor, Christmas decorations, something for Easter or Thanksgiving or Valentine's Day or summer, they've got you covered each season with fresh decor to make your house feel like a home.

I was on a several months long journey to find a bedroom group for myself. I've visited a few…read morelocal furniture stores and couldn't find what I was looking for. On a whim, I stopped in VCF-Thruway Plaza while I was running errands and was greeted by Barbara. I explained to her that I was not making a purchase that day but was browsing to see if they'd have what I wanted and if it would fit into my room. I definitely appreciated her approach as she brought me to the bedroom section and let me know if I needed her, to grab her. This is the shopping style that suits me. No stalking or high pressure sales. At this location I hit the jackpot twice. It went from finding NOTHING I liked to TWO sets that I loved, the Hazel collection and the Hanover collection. I was truly stumped and couldn't make a decision. I easily located Barbara and explained my dilemma. She asked some probing questions about my style, room size, color scheme and really understood. Barbara didn't make me feel like I needed to make a decision right then, she provided me with measurements of the sets, walked around the store with me with sample colors of the woods to see them in different lighting and understood my vision. No, I didn't make a purchase on my first trip but she provided me with quotes and we exchanged numbers so I could come back and purchase. Barbara texted me about a week and a half later to see if I had made my decision and let me know if I was ready so was she. I returned to the store this past Tuesday to be greeted again by her and we finalized the sale. I wound up with the Hazel group. I definitely appreciated the low pressure and understanding of my needs!

I…read moreeven looked them up on Facebook, and saw a mix of really great handmade furniture, and other knick knacks. I had to go. I had a little spare time while passing by again today, and pulled in. I was immediately greeted by Riley, a good natured Golden Retriever with a tail on non-stop wag mode. Passing through the door, I was also hailed by Dan Curtis, who owns the shop with his wife, Julie. Dan warmly welcomed me right away. For a small, cozy shop in someone's home, it is PACKED full of lovely things; handmade candles, birdhouses, decorative hand painted signs, antiqued furniture, floral arrangements, tea, etc. And even though the sheer amount of goods was a little staggering, there was definitely order to it. I was immediately charmed. While I browsed, Dan chatted with me and another customer perusing the shelves. "95% of the things you see in the shop are made right here by my bride," he informed me. "There's nothing she can't do." Looking around, it was hard not to be impressed. A few minutes later, Julie came out, and like her husband, I found her very gracious and welcoming. She was happy to chat with us. For handmade things, I was surprised to see that the prices really weren't as high as I expected them to be. I picked out three wall accents, and I think I spent less than forty bucks. Not bad. I could have bought more (and wanted to) but my budget wouldn't allow it. This place is awesome, and I love love love supporting a local business, especially one run by such friendly people. I'll definitely be back - they have great gifts! Oh, and a tip - if you can't make it in during normal hours, you can make an appointment. And if you swing by off hours (within reason, obviously) and Dan happens to be in the shop, he'll open it up for you. Yay for a great locally owned shop! (PS. I wish I could give this place another star, for the adorable dog.)
