So quiet and relaxing. We stayed on the first floor with a great view of the lake. The furnishings aren't fussy, but you'll have everything you need. We were a bit close to the dining area and thus were worried about noise, but it was perfectly quiet. We'll definitely stay here again. Paid $120 for one night, which was well worth it.

Most of the guests and wedding party stayed at the hotel and everyone found their accommodations clean and comfortable. We had a guest reception on Friday and the wedding dinner Saturday night. We ate on the lawn and it was awesome. The food was great, the service flawless and the waitstaff fun and friendly. Later, there was dancing on the massive front porch followed by a late night snack to cap the evening. The entire weekend was a pleasant and enjoyable experience. I can't say enough about the atmosphere, the friendliness of the staff and the overall accommodating attitude of everyone we dealt with.

Most summers, we went to the usual places. sometimes good experiences sometimes not, but when there are few spots in town, you deal with it. That is never the case here. Always friendly faces, pleasant staff and quality ingredients, goods, & service. Whether you go to the farmers market, stop by the new honeymoon house, or try our the restaurant. You won't be sorry. We live in Chicago, so we're used to the farm to table prices, and that is what you should expect here too. Recently, Matt introduced himself after recognizing us from our frequent stops, which really makes you feel good to spend your money with a business like that. If you have never been to Washington Island, it is a real treat. It is totally different from the hustle and bustle that city live requires. I don't remember ever staying anywhere else besides Gibson's since we have been coming up here. Herb and his family have always been extremely nice to my family in welcoming us into their home. Essentially, that is what Gibson's is. There home. The resort used to be an old loggers house. About 20 rooms fill the top of the house, all complete with the exactly what you need for your stay - a bed and a dresser. No bathroom you say? Correct! That's what the outdoors are for.. Just kidding. There is a bathroom, but it is located towards the end of the hall. There is a men's washroom and a women's washroom, complete with a stand up shower and sink (and toilet). If you are looking for the following: *Luxury *Air conditioned splendor *Suites or executive style beds *Continental Breakfast You will not find those here. What you will find is peace, quiet and one of the most beautiful views of Lake Michigan you have ever seen, at an affordable price. As well as the rooms, Gibson's offers several cabins to rent as well, however, if you are looking to book a cabin, you better know you need one about a year and a half in advance because that's how far out the bookings are! If you just want to enjoy the beauty of Washington Island without breaking your bank, Gibson's is the way to go. It's old fashioned, it's beat up, but it feels like home.

But you are not going to Washington Island to be fancy; stay at home to wear your Channel and frolic in satin sheets. You are warned. The double room is rather on the small side but has a bed, a sofa, a few lamps, a TV/DVD set and an attached bathroom. The bed is TINY and squeaky - so be prepared for a bed night of sleep or just send your significant other on the sofa in the middle of the night (works best for couples over 2 years). But what sold me on the place is the free bikes available to all guests. There are plenty of them, and you can even used tandems if it strikes your fancy (I tried and didn't like it AT ALL but who knows?!?). Very nice to go all around the island. Don't miss it. Several grills, chaise chairs and a fire pit and also there for your comfort. Take advantage of it. A solid option on the other side of the Death's Door.
