My family and I have been staying at Sunset Oceanfront Lodging during our Bandon visits for decades, and we adore this place! The family that owns it is so kind and the front staff even remembers my brother-in-law. We stay almost exclusively in the Vern Brown Addition, which has GORGEOUS views of the beach. :) It's also super easy for beach access, with stairs leading down directly to the beach. While Vern Brown is not pet friendly, there are other pet friendly rooms available. Last year, we stayed with our pup and it was so cute to arrive with a couple dog biscuits in the room waiting for her! All in all, this place is a home away from home for my family, and we look forward to many continued Bandon visits at Sunset. :) read more

This place is amazing. Friendly staff and beautiful rooms. And the sunsets are amazing and the rocks and downtown. Downtown is such a quaint area with cutest shops you can imagine. With goodies hidden in each one rather it be treats to eat or adorable clothing. And an awesome bait shop that you can get all your fishing needs met and the best fish tacos ever. This was the first time I have ever stayed at a hotel in Bandon, I have family there who were transitioning living arrangements hence the necessity. Bandon is a small town, it is not a glitzy resort type town, rich in Oregon history, hard working folks, it definitely has its place. Sunset Lodging & Hotel exemplifies all of that, the rooms are perfectly adequate, cozy, yes dated, our room (236) provided UNPARALLELED views of the majestic oceanfront views. Access to the beach are yards away. Old Town a brief 5 minute drive, access to highway 101 even less. Parking was perfect at the property. You don't go to Bandon to sit in a hotel room, it's where you sleep and shower, the rest of your time is spent exploring your surroundings. The beds are perfectly comfortable, water pressure in the showers was exceptional, cable tv stations were great. Heater worked wonderfully, no, there was no AC other than the breezes coming through the sliding glass door, I'll take that every single day This is an old school type accommodation, the staff from front desk to housekeeping were wonderful, friendly, knowledgeable. You can't really ask for more, a simple breakfast served from 7:30am to 10:00am, nothing elaborate, no need for it to be with some fantastic eateries a mile away. An indoor pool/spa right off the lobby, lots of area literature and attractions available, super pet friendly. You must take note that moisture is in the air, the weather changes on a dime, from spectacular bright sunny skies to billowing doom and gloom clouds and rain, that's the Oregon coast, no getting away from it. I was really looking forward to writing this review, I would and will stay here again, these are the types of properties that best capture and convey the presence of Bandon.... I stayed in the duplex and I highly recommend that if one is available. I stayed in the smaller one. I understand the big one has a fireplace and full kitchen. Lovely deck to watch the beach, super relaxing. The staff was lovely. The breakfast was just OK, like most free breakfast, but I felt rejuvenated. Great for a peaceful retreat. read more

Stayed in economy room Pros: VIEWS!!! Comfy bed, small fan, dark closure to cover sliding glass door at night. Safe Cons: No air cond, no window to open for breeze except for the sliding glass door entry way which did not want to leave open all night. Maybe if they had a screen door for some kind of protection. Breakfast was not a breakfast. Coffee, OJ, yogurt, cereal, fruit cups and bagels. Very weird set up. The stairs down to the beach are damaged from the King Tides so the are closed off. Will need to walk North to the stairs located at the other part of the hotel. I thought it was worth it. The Station Restaurant is a great place to have breakfast and lunch. read more

Oh my goodness what a place!! We had THE room that was #1 -Clean and beautiful inside! #2 - Views that were epic! Ocean front rooms have no cell service and internet. They say there's internet to do wifi calling didn't work. They had a landline but it wouldn't work so couldn't call in food orders as we had our day and wanted to bring meals back to eat in our room with ocean views. Beds were comfortable. It was a big inconvenience since we had family from New Mexico staying in town and couldn't get to make plans together. Super nice staff but they couldn't fix the problems. read more

We stayed at the Sunset Oceanfront Lodging in Bandon, Oregon, and unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. We had requested a pet friendly room, but the room reeked of urine as soon as we walked in, after spending the night, I went to the office to report the problem. The gentleman at the front desk told me that carpets are only shampooed at the beginning of the season and end of the season. I was honestly shocked at this response. With pets coming and going, the owners should strongly consider removing the carpet and replacing it with linoleum or another easy-to-clean flooring so the rooms can be properly sanitized as needed. What even made it more frustrating was realizing we were charged a pet fee, yet the rooms clearly are not cleaned to a standard that reflects that cost. Sadly, I cannot recommend this hotel. The location maybe wonderful, but the lack of cleanliness and maintenance of their pet rooms is unacceptable. read more

No table for eating & only 1 chair for sitting. The bed was the smallest queen, ever. No bedside tables for water, eyeglasses, phone, etc. Wood paneling made it feel outdated & tiny pictures seemed almost pointless wall decorations. The TV was tiny, very few outlets if you need to charge electronics. Absolutely spectacular views from many of the rooms. Our room (#417) was clean and well-appointed. WiFi was good and strong. The fireplace with supplied duraflame logs was a nice touch. Water pressure was good, and the mattresses were medium-soft. I liked them, but those who prefer a firm mattress might not be as comfortable. Beach access is a joke. If you even have a slight mobility issue, forgetaboutit. It's a five story stair walk-up and down- to get to the beach, so the 'oceanfront' description is a bit misleading. read more

The older rooms in this hotel should be condemned! This place didn't appear to be up to code. Musty, windows that don't open, no A/C, ramps to the 2nd floor that are not ADA compliant. No upgrades to the older rooms since the mid to late 60's. This hotel is inexpensive for a reason! read more

Do not stay here!!! My sister and I were going to stay three nights in the economy room and there was BLACK MOLD on the ceiling in the bathroom!!! We told management and they only offered a more expensive room (which we had to pay the difference in price for for the next two nights) and a $25 discount on our night's stay. This place has so much potential however it needs an extreme upgrade. My husband and I stayed on part of the property that's on the beach front. The sunset was absolutely beautiful. The beach front rooms should not have carpet especially since ppl go to the beach and bring the sand into the rooms with their pets as well. I know some hotels are accepting pets because of making more money however they are NOT making upkeep with the rooms due to the pets and they should have pet only rooms. One guest had two huge dogs that scared me and another guest had 3 dogs, with 2 adults in a very small room. Our room was also very musty. I gave this lodge 2 stars because of the beautiful sunset views and the extreme closeness to the beach other wise 1 star. It get so hot in the room and there's NO ventilation. You can't open the sliding door cuz there's no screen. They need to do better! read more

Stayed here for two nights. Such a cute location with the beach just being a short walk from our room. Our first impression was very interesting... The front door to our room is a sliding glass door which everyone walks past. The only curtain you get is a black out curtain so if you want to be stared at by people walking about it's perfect for you! The rooms are hot even when it's super cold outside and if you want ventilation all you get is a sliding glass door with no screen so keeping it open for anyone to walk in is your only option. The view is beautiful though! THE WORST PART! If you are staying here for more than one night and you want to keep your leftovers cold you better bring an ice chest big enough. There is NO fridge. So in total no fridge, windows, or privacy (without sacrifice of any light and view of the ocean). I will say you get what you pay for when staying here. Also plan ahead when staying here because everything food related closes at 8pm. read more

We have enjoyed Sunset for years but something has changed for the worse. Upon our arrival last week the clerk was rude and unaccommodating. Our room was disgustingly small and outdated with exposed wiring, stained furniture, and when requesting room service we were told that required filling out a form and we never did receive room service. The ramp leading to our 2nd story room can't possibly be an approved ramp given it's so steep it looks like it was used to build the great pyramids. Breakfast was limited to coffee, fruit cups, bagels, and packets of oatmeal. Sadly we will not return. read more

Including many along the Pacific coast, Based on those experiences we thought this room was overpriced by 30% or more. This place had a million dollar view of the raging ocean and rick formations, making it look like Middle Earth. But there were issues. First the heater sounds like a hair dryer that goes on and off all night. Second, the linen was awful. Pillows like q tips with a nasty blanket that felt like the thickness of a Kleenex. Why can't there be great linen? It's the most important component to a great nights sleep. Check in guy was nice, but at these prices the rooms and services should be much nicer! read more

This is one of my favorite rooms ever - it is so cute and vintage - it's a great bargain. Walk across the quiet street and get a view that is worthy of its own tourist destination designation. We stayed in rustic doubles - Bathroom looks like it was from the mid century and very well kept up. There are tiny wood windows next to sliders and in bathroom to get cross ventilation. Not sure how you can downgrade a hotel for no fridge or microwave if they don't advertise a fridge and a microwave. Try to imagine what it was like before you had everything at your fingertips and take a walk to the ice machine. Tons of fluffy towels and toiletries, beds clean. You want to see what a real one or two star motel go stay in Quality Inn Grants Pass. Highly recommend!! read more

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Everything about this place! My husband and I arrived around 12 pm I'm sure way too early for check-in but they didn't even blink an eye. They got us checked in with a smile and gave us tips about where to eat, great customer service! Unfortunately, the battery in our car decided it was a good time to die after a two-hour drive. We went back into the office and the awesome Lady behind the desk was up and grabbing her keys to help us with a charge. Above and beyond, thanks again! When we were done buying a new battery we went to our room it was clean, had wood floors, and was tastefully decorated and very modern. But the very best thing about this room is the view!! Stunning! And just a few stairs from the gorgeous, clean beach! My husband and I made a pact to come back once a year. It's that good!! And the room we stayed in was totally upgraded. I have no idea why there is anything under 4 stars from other patrons unless they are the competition. read more

First the good. The room was clean. The views and proximity to the ocean were awesome. The bed was comfortable for sleeping. Check in guy was super cordial and informative. They have decent grass to walk your dogs. The bad. The wing of rooms we stayed in faced the ocean. Which would have been great if you could actually hear it. The rooms have sliding doors for entry. There are no screens. There are no windows in the rooms. The afternoon sun hits those doors and the rooms become ovens. Absolute ovens. There are no fans available. When we complained to staff, we were just met with "it's been family owned for 100 years"! So what's a person to do? We had to buy a fan and LEAVE OUR HOTEL ROOM DOOR OPEN! Wide open where anyone walking by could look in or come in if they chose. Pic attached of how we had to block the door for our dog. There were no less than four people staying there doing the same. You should not have to risk your safety just to have a comfortable room temperature. If my husband had not been with me (And I often travel alone) there would be no way I could have done that. So when I mentioned the beds were comfortable, that was to sleep. You can't even sit up in bed and read or watch TV because there are florescent light above the bed encased in some wooden decorative thing. I'm only 5'7" and my head would hit it if I sat up. On the website it advertises a self serve breakfast at the nearby restaurant. It was grab and go from the lobby. Two hard boiled eggs, a granola bar, and a whole grain bagel. Every. Day. Coffee, juice. The rustic wood look takes it a bit far. Our bathroom vanity if you could call it that was literally plywood. Was it a vanity once? Who knows. The tissue holder was pitted and rusted, which I know is hard to avoid so close to the ocean, but just get rid of it and put out a box of tissues. I've also a pic attached the only other opening in the room. This weird 3"x 18" 'window' that you open a wood door too, but it's so heavily downward louvered you can't barely even see light through it much less get a breeze or air through it. Plus it hit the top of the sliding door valance so won't even open all the way. I would never stay here again read more

The first thing when we arrived in our room was the view. That's five stars all day, every day. However the three star rating is because of the lack of comfort in our room. We stayed in the king sized suite. The room consist of bed, this dresser combo mini frig/microwave/TV, and two nightstands and a table with three hard chairs. The floors are vinyl plank throughout, which made the room feel cold. Oh and two plastic chairs outside on the deck. There was no desk for phone or soft chair or loveseat to lounge on. The room just wasn't comfortable to hang out in. Since the weather was windy and rainy on our full day in Bandon, sitting out on the deck wasn't an a option, so it really would of been nice to have that couch or loveseat to lounge on. The decor is minimal and really not charming at all. We travel in this area every few years and will most likely find another place with more room amenities the next time we are in town. read more

It's a very reasonable price for the walking distance to the beach. The host is also very sweet. That being said, we stayed in one of the economy rooms and the walls were very thin. You could hear every person walking by, and we were next to a sitting area where two men decided to have a rousing chat at 6am. Not the hotels fault, but the thin walls allowed every word into our room. There was also a mystery water spot near our bathroom that never dried. That was admittedly strange. Haha. It's the beach tho so everything is kinda moist. We would stay here again but I would consider upgrading and asking not to be right next to the little seating area. read more

I am a hotel snob. I'm always looking for the newest prettiest rooms at a hotel with tons of amenities. But Covid has made amenities pointless. So I decided to try this quaint little rustic, unassuming hotel because of it's beachfront location despite my dislike of the room interior pics. But when I got there, I found a hotel that felt like home. The area was tucked away and safe, the hotel staff were friendly and welcoming, they took good Covid precautions, the bed was so incredibly comfy, the rooms had a little mini "porthole" of sorts hidden away behind a wood cover that you could choose to open to hear the waves if you wanted, and my god you cannot beat that Ocean view and access. I will stay here everytime I ever come back to the Oregon coast!! read more

It's an okay place. The rooms are clean and you can't beat the location. You are right on the water with beautiful rocks. While the rooms are clean, they are in need of MAJOR updating. We stayed in the economy room and it seemed like it hasn't been remodeled since the building was built in 1970's. I was very disappointed. We have been coming here for 18 years, specifically to stay here at the Vern Brown Addition. Today we check in and see the rooms have been sterilized to some kind of pop modern bland. First thing we noticed is the carpet has been removed and replaced with freezing cold linoleum. Then you turn on the lights and it feels like you're in a sterilization chamber of incredibly bright white laboratory lights. I go to light the fire in the fireplace and guess what?! They pulled those as well and replaced it with those hideous Costco fake light show displays that pretends to be a fire while blowing hot air. The rustic warmth of this place has been destroyed and made cold. Even the upholstered furniture has been removed and there is nothing comfortable to sit on other than an overly soft bed. I even went out to the store and purchased an incandescent light bulb for the lamp to reduce the lab rat atmosphere. The patio that overlooks the beach has also been upgraded with a vinyl railing and an incredibly slippery slate stone tile. I'm sure it lasts longer than wood, but it is so slippery when wet it is dangerous. I am so saddened by this horrible 'upgrade'. We came to Bandon many times over the years primarily to stay in the Vern Brown addition and have many fond memories of being here. This room used to have fabric covered furniture, a working fireplace and a warm inviting feel that encouraged you to stick around and enjoy the comfort. Now this place is just some cold uninviting room that offers nothing more than a place to shower, sleep and pee. Couple of kitchen chairs and patio chairs and one end table. No more dresser or drawers for clothing, I guess your suitcase will do. Just make sure to bring slippers as this floor is freakin cold. I even had to drag one of the plastic patio chairs over by the bed to use as an end table. Can't even balance a cup of coffee on the chair, has to sit on the cold floor. ...add to all that, the new beds are way too soft. Like trying to sleep on a marshmallow. Kept waking up very uncomfortable every hour or so. For us, there is nothing left here but the view and unfortunately, after 18 years, we will not be coming back to this establishment. God I can't believe how cold this floor is without any carpet. Tempted to just check out early tomorrow and go home. read more

We visited during the minus tides and strawberry supermoon in mid June and stayed Tu-Fri. To me this is hands down the best view you can stay at without renting a house in that you can see views of Face Rock, Wizard Hat Rock, Elephant Rock from the Vern Brown Addition rooms. There are stairs to take right here to look out your balcony if the sunrise, sunset, moonset are worthy of your walk on the beach or chill on your private lil balcony or read in bed with the door open so you have the views but without being cold or rained on depending on the weather. There's a grab and go simple breakfast in the morning, and coffee and tea bar during lobby hours. A telescope pointed in the lobby gives you a closeup of the birds on the sea stacks and there's lots of printed info here about Circles in the Sand, tidepools, lighthouses, and more. We didn't bring our bathing suits but wish we did to relax in the hot tub after our hikes. Beds were comfy and the rooms quiet from other guests for us, and we appreciated having the fridge and microwave to reheat leftovers from Lord Bennett's across the street. We did not get a fireplace room though those are available and have a small kitchenette I believe. Tip: get takeout and a bottle of wine to go for your room for better dinner views then the restaurant, if you want to dine in make reservations as the restaurant is busy. Walkable to Face Rock Viewpoint (convenient when the lookout parking lot gets full) to Coquille Point, parking is easy here. Appreciated they had a broom and dustpan in the room so we could keep sweeping the inevitable sand we brought in. read more

The location is amazing! The views are terrific. The staff was very welcoming and helpful....but We stayed in the main lodge and then the rustic section. The property is very tired. The main lodge renovated in 2017 needs a serious facelift. The rates are reasonable. The rooms with King as very large but VERY dated. This property could be a jewel. The Rustic section is quite a bit cheaper. If it's space you are after - pay the extra. If not get the rustic. They are have such a stellar location one would hope they would listen up.
