I would definitely recommend this place! It has great customer service in fact they even called to see if we were still coming, I've never had a hotel/ motel do that. The rooms were nice and clean. They offer coffee and scones at 7:00 in the morning for all the coffee drinkers. If you're a fisherman I would definitely recommend this place or if you're looking for a place in Charleston.

This place was definitely not clean. You would think at $70 a night they would at least have clean sheets. There was mold on the front door and other spots of the hotel room the floor definitely had not been swept. Back to the sheets and not being clean they were full of hair. Not a good Experience at all.

A urinal disguised as a boxspring! Or a boxspring disguised as a urinal. Solving that puzzle distracts me from imagining the mattress.

I have no words strong enough to describe this disgusting horror of a place and it's wicked owner. I called and requested "the nicest room they have". Captain Johns is the only motel near the harbor where my friend's slip is. I wanted to surprise him when he came back from fishing with a comfy mattress and a hot shower. Instead I was told my room had been accidentally given away and I could have a queen room at a discount. Too late for anything else do I agreed I have no words to describe what was awaiting me. That's why I took pictures. I can't find where to attach so briefly tons of black mold, what appeared to be a halfhearted attempt to clean blood off the wall, filthiest sink I've ever seen, and the entire Taco Bell chain seemed to have exploded in the never-cleaned microwave. But, oh, the bed. By this time I realized I must not touch the bed. So I took a washcloth to peel back a bit of the bedspread. It revealed a bare boxspring that appeared as someone had used it as a urinal. In a fugue state I stumbled back to the office where the lady seemed shocked that I would have a problem. "It's an old hotel". So I broke out the pictures and shamed her on each one until I was refunded. I understand that there might be nicer parts to this motel, but do not take the chance. They give rooms, even prepaid reserved rooms, to the highest bidder; then with a crocodile smile and a complete disregard for your sanity, health and safety hand you a key to the hooker/tweaker annex. I mistakenly sat on a chair to make a call for rescue. It was vinyl and I thought it would be ok. I have three large red itchy bites now. Serious. Is there an agency that governs these places? BE AFRAID. BE VERY AFRAID.

The motel is in close proximity to the bay, and also in walking distance to many good restaurants.

If you are looking for a clean well run motel with a classic 1950s vibe you have come to the right place. This motel has friendly service and well maintained rooms. Though some of the furniture is outdated and worn it's rooms are still comfortable and serve their basic purpose. This may not excite you, but it's location is what makes this motel really special. It is surrounded by a beautiful harbor featuring inexpensive and delicious restaurants. It is also in close proximity to many whale watching hot spots in the area. It's not extravagant but it's inexpensive rates and great location make it a worth while stop on your vacation.

yeah capt johns has its drawbacks but if you want a place on the water for crabbing and cooking your crab you cannot beat it, I used to be the front desk person there and I have to say that the rooms are always clean and a good price, yes it is dated in its look but I am one of these people that I am not staying in a motel for it amenities but a good place to rest my head from all the sites I am seeing wherever I am at, I am a no frills girl and as long as I have a clean room with clean sheets and towels and bathroom then I am good to go! They also have a room that is set up like an apt with a living room and kitchen and a separate bedroom, good place to stay if you have kids but remember there is no swimming pool or play area but you they can ride their bikes in the large parking lot.

Stayed 1 night. Room was quiet. The room had a bad odor. Probably fisherman won't mind. Good parking for fishing boat.

It is, in fact, so much better than the second-best motel that I don't even know what the second-best motel I've been to is! Not only is the Itty Bitty Inn now a must-stay for me on my next trip up the Oregon Coast, but it is so great that it has dramatically increased the likelihood that I will be driving back up the Coast soon. I'm still shocked that the Lonely Planet guide didn't mention it. Rick (the owner) is the coolest. The first thing that he did was give my friend and I a rundown of Coos Bay hotspots. Then he showed us to our beautifully decorated and upholstered rooms - we had the two Tiki-themed rooms, each of which had too much detail to even be done justice by a picture. He proceeded to then pour us complementary beers and directed us to the outdoor patio for lounging and decompression after our trip. I felt like the King of France! I now absolutely need to stay in every one of the rooms for at least a night (there are 5 total, each with a different theme). This is no trivial feat, as apparently new complete redesigns are always in the planning stages. I can't wait to see the place next time I'm in town!!!

We enjoyed the 24/7 coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Each room has a small refrigerator and single cup Cuisinart coffee maker in the room. There is a communal microwave in the lobby to heat up food as well as a small pay snack counter for quick bites. They have an indoor pool (which was a little too cool for me, but I do believe it is heated). A small gym with bathrooms and filtered water machine. (Sadly the hot tub is covered up and not available) There are no elevators in this two story property. But it looks like every room has a balcony on the second floor and patio on the first floor on the water view side. They also have a "motel"style wing which the doors are entered through the parking lot. These rooms, I was told were "Pet friendly" rooms and have no carpet on the floors. We were in room 126 on the ground floor. The room was comfortable. Large flat screen TV, comfy sitting chair with a small desk top tray, mini fridge and dresser. Bathroom was stocked with pump shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. Also where the vanity was, there was a small open style closet and shelving which was great! Additionally there was an ironing board and iron and a hair dryer. The lighting situation is terrible. It would be nice if they had a switch to the lights in the room and not have to rely on finding where the switch is on the lamps. And the mattresses were not the best. I was told they were all new mattresses when they did the remodel. Not sure if it was just our room or if all the mattresses in the hotel were like this, but it really was the only big issue I had. I didn't have terrible sleeps but they are worth noting because they are not supportive mattresses at all! I made my reservations with an off site reservastionist and the guy really messed up a lot of information on my reservation. The big one being that there was an elevator. The GM, Amber, was amazing and honored the reservation price and was able to get me a room downstairs and had been a pleasant sight every day since we had arrived. Outside we enjoyed the 2 chairs and small table on our small patio that overlooked the water. Overall I'd give this place a 4.5 star rating. Beds really being my only complaint. The staff became family and were all so friendly! We will be back! Special shout-out to Amber and Chris who really took time to make us feel welcomed and share their local favorites with us.

Our Priceline Pre-paid price for 2 nights was $169. Pictures attached pretty much describe our dinky room. 1. Our beautiful view of the bay from the bathroom. Unfortunately the fan didn't work so our exquisite views were horribly limited. 2. A mirror over the sink designed for short people. The mirror is functional as it does reflect just fine. You just have to bend over. 3. A circa... perhaps1972 gorgeous vintage chair most likely refurbished with gorilla tape...perhaps in 1994? I now realize I could have paid a bit more and reserved that luxurious "queen room with sea view" and even gotten a bit more space to walk around the bed. Check-in went smooth. I walked in the small lobby looking for a bell but there is none. Within a minute a dude walked in and gave me an actual metal key. The dude is also the housekeeper and seemed to be out of breath. But he was a nice guy. There was some gagging and coughing from someone next door. Other than that, the main noise was from cars and trucks along highway 101. Thankfully, there were no drunken fights, screams, known drug deals or cops called during our 2-night stay. So why the 2 stars when honestly nothing really went wrong? I suppose I expected a bit more. No...not more like Days Inn or Travel Lodge quality. But a bit more like maybe consider the clientele doesn't value that vintage 1970s taped up chair? The room smell was just...creepy. Like a bad smell where no spray is going to work. Actually, that is why our room doors were open when we arrived LOL. Or maybe consider re-setting the bathroom mirror so anyone over 5'7 doesn't have to bend over? Oh yeah...when you sit on the toilet it reminds me of sitting on my chair in 1st grade. My guess is that this is a vintage toilet from the late 60s. Entertainment: You could probably take a hike up to the top of the McCullough Bridge and watch a ship pass under the bridge or maybe the Coos Bay Railroad swing span bridge that rotates 90 degrees to allow 3 trains-a-week train traffic over the bay. Grub: Hilltop House is nice, but I haven't dinned there since the 80s so take caution. Moms Kitchen is a better bet for breakfast or lunch. Be prepared to wait... It is a roadside inn and IMHO the owners are missing a bet by not advertising it as such. The only thing missing is a parking lot full of classic cars. (I tried to help by bringing my 40 year old Porsche.) And the view... OMG, the view. The room rates? Let's just say that they were extremely affordable and that there's an espresso kiosk right over there. We WILL be back!
