Moon tide at a nearby park

Clean and a great value hotel with a friendly and helpful staff. Close to a local park with breathtaking views of the ocean. The park has a botanical garden too. We stayed a few times during our drive along the California/Oregon coast.

I would definitely recommend this place! It has great customer service in fact they even called to see if we were still coming, I've never had a hotel/ motel do that. The rooms were nice and clean. They offer coffee and scones at 7:00 in the morning for all the coffee drinkers. If you're a fisherman I would definitely recommend this place or if you're looking for a place in Charleston.

    Mold on the door

This place was definitely not clean. You would think at $70 a night they would at least have clean sheets. There was mold on the front door and other spots of the hotel room the floor definitely had not been swept. Back to the sheets and not being clean they were full of hair. Not a good Experience at all.

A urinal disguised as a boxspring! Or a boxspring disguised as a urinal. Solving that puzzle distracts me from imagining the mattress.

I have no words strong enough to describe this disgusting horror of a place and it's wicked owner. I called and requested "the nicest room they have". Captain Johns is the only motel near the harbor where my friend's slip is. I wanted to surprise him when he came back from fishing with a comfy mattress and a hot shower. Instead I was told my room had been accidentally given away and I could have a queen room at a discount. Too late for anything else do I agreed I have no words to describe what was awaiting me. That's why I took pictures. I can't find where to attach so briefly tons of black mold, what appeared to be a halfhearted attempt to clean blood off the wall, filthiest sink I've ever seen, and the entire Taco Bell chain seemed to have exploded in the never-cleaned microwave. But, oh, the bed. By this time I realized I must not touch the bed. So I took a washcloth to peel back a bit of the bedspread. It revealed a bare boxspring that appeared as someone had used it as a urinal. In a fugue state I stumbled back to the office where the lady seemed shocked that I would have a problem. "It's an old hotel". So I broke out the pictures and shamed her on each one until I was refunded. I understand that there might be nicer parts to this motel, but do not take the chance. They give rooms, even prepaid reserved rooms, to the highest bidder; then with a crocodile smile and a complete disregard for your sanity, health and safety hand you a key to the hooker/tweaker annex. I mistakenly sat on a chair to make a call for rescue. It was vinyl and I thought it would be ok. I have three large red itchy bites now. Serious. Is there an agency that governs these places? BE AFRAID. BE VERY AFRAID.

The motel is in close proximity to the bay, and also in walking distance to many good restaurants.

If you are looking for a clean well run motel with a classic 1950s vibe you have come to the right place. This motel has friendly service and well maintained rooms. Though some of the furniture is outdated and worn it's rooms are still comfortable and serve their basic purpose. This may not excite you, but it's location is what makes this motel really special. It is surrounded by a beautiful harbor featuring inexpensive and delicious restaurants. It is also in close proximity to many whale watching hot spots in the area. It's not extravagant but it's inexpensive rates and great location make it a worth while stop on your vacation.

Stayed 1 night. Room was quiet. The room had a bad odor. Probably fisherman won't mind. Good parking for fishing boat.

It is, in fact, so much better than the second-best motel that I don't even know what the second-best motel I've been to is! Not only is the Itty Bitty Inn now a must-stay for me on my next trip up the Oregon Coast, but it is so great that it has dramatically increased the likelihood that I will be driving back up the Coast soon. I'm still shocked that the Lonely Planet guide didn't mention it. Rick (the owner) is the coolest. The first thing that he did was give my friend and I a rundown of Coos Bay hotspots. Then he showed us to our beautifully decorated and upholstered rooms - we had the two Tiki-themed rooms, each of which had too much detail to even be done justice by a picture. He proceeded to then pour us complementary beers and directed us to the outdoor patio for lounging and decompression after our trip. I felt like the King of France! I now absolutely need to stay in every one of the rooms for at least a night (there are 5 total, each with a different theme). This is no trivial feat, as apparently new complete redesigns are always in the planning stages. I can't wait to see the place next time I'm in town!!!

It wasn't as big as I expected, but they had all of the slot machines I enjoy playing, so I was happy with the selection. I also appreciated how clean everything was. I constantly saw employees wiping down the machines, and the ventilation system does a good job of keeping the casino from feeling overly smoky, even though smoking is allowed. On the downside, the non-smoking room still smelled like cigarette smoke, which was disappointing. The slot machines also seemed pretty tight during my visit. I wasn't impressed with the rewards program either. New members only receive $5 in free play after signing up for a player's card and spending $10 first, which seems a bit backwards. It would be nice if the free play was available immediately as a welcome incentive. Despite those drawbacks, the clean casino, great machine selection, and waterfront location made for an enjoyable visit.

We enjoyed the 24/7 coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Each room has a small refrigerator and single cup Cuisinart coffee maker in the room. There is a communal microwave in the lobby to heat up food as well as a small pay snack counter for quick bites. They have an indoor pool (which was a little too cool for me, but I do believe it is heated). A small gym with bathrooms and filtered water machine. (Sadly the hot tub is covered up and not available) There are no elevators in this two story property. But it looks like every room has a balcony on the second floor and patio on the first floor on the water view side. They also have a "motel"style wing which the doors are entered through the parking lot. These rooms, I was told were "Pet friendly" rooms and have no carpet on the floors. We were in room 126 on the ground floor. The room was comfortable. Large flat screen TV, comfy sitting chair with a small desk top tray, mini fridge and dresser. Bathroom was stocked with pump shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. Also where the vanity was, there was a small open style closet and shelving which was great! Additionally there was an ironing board and iron and a hair dryer. The lighting situation is terrible. It would be nice if they had a switch to the lights in the room and not have to rely on finding where the switch is on the lamps. And the mattresses were not the best. I was told they were all new mattresses when they did the remodel. Not sure if it was just our room or if all the mattresses in the hotel were like this, but it really was the only big issue I had. I didn't have terrible sleeps but they are worth noting because they are not supportive mattresses at all! I made my reservations with an off site reservastionist and the guy really messed up a lot of information on my reservation. The big one being that there was an elevator. The GM, Amber, was amazing and honored the reservation price and was able to get me a room downstairs and had been a pleasant sight every day since we had arrived. Outside we enjoyed the 2 chairs and small table on our small patio that overlooked the water. Overall I'd give this place a 4.5 star rating. Beds really being my only complaint. The staff became family and were all so friendly! We will be back! Special shout-out to Amber and Chris who really took time to make us feel welcomed and share their local favorites with us.

After being on hold for several minutes, I finally hung up. The background ("hold") music was loud, and the automated message which kept repeating more often than necessary (in my opinion), was very annoying. I called a few hours later, and again I was put on hold several times without being asked. And again, after several minutes, I hung up. After we checked in, we proceeded to our room. The odor was stale. Musty. The toilet wouldn't flush. It was because the water was turned off. One of the lights in the bathroom wasn't working. The light over the tub area. The only way to get proper light is to turn the heat lamp on. But it's summertime, so we'd rather have a dim bathroom over a hot bathroom. Not a great choice. The mini-fridge wouldn't close properly because the seal wasn't properly sealing the fridge. The ice tray portion was frozen (full of ice) ~ probably because the fridge wasn't sealed. It needs to be defrosted. The interior of the microwave was dirty. The phone wasn't working. The only thing nice is the room is large. However the room is outdated. 1980s. Garish. It has popcorn ceilings. I felt like I was in an 80s movie. And not a good one. By far, this hotel is among the worst hotel accommodations I can recall. And I've visited third world countries, such as Mexico and the Philippines. I booked the hotel through hotels.com and submitted my review to them as well. I believe I'm entitled to a partial refund, because the overall ratings of this hotel on hotels.com did not reflect my experience. The hotel stated that the free breakfast was very simple. A breakfast sandwich. The poor customer service, coupled with an inferior hotel room, resulted in a one star rating. This is the lowest rating I've given for anything on yelp. My typical rating is 4 to 5 stars. Rarely lower, because I choose places that have good reviews. I spoke to Chris (front desk) and he explained that the reason I was on hold for several minutes, several times, was that he has been the only person on duty all afternoon. His priority are those standing in line, over manning the phones. Which explains an even earlier call I made to the hotel, when the phone kept ringing, with no one answering. The manager and hotel owner need to be aware of these deficiencies. They should correct them. Knowledge is power. Perception is key. Communication is essential. I hope management and the hotel owner correct these deficiencies.
