I had a dear friend buried here today, April 7th 2025. First off, they had already purchased their site a few years ago. When my son in law called them to get things organized, because of his father's passing, the salesman screwed up their reservation and did not include certain things. It was a disaster just to get it handled. The amount of extra charges for things was astronomical. During the service today, we were close to the maintenance shed. We had arrives for about an hour. Constantly there was maintenance vehicles going in and out. I understand that they have a job to do, but damn. The loudest vehicles just stopped in idle close by during prayer. I was going to work here. I'm so glad I turned down the offer. They really need to fix the way they sell their packages and keep the maintenance team away for just an hour. Very unprofessional & only concerned about money. Maricela is absolutely terrible. She turned down a generous donation and was nonchalant about it. That was unnecessarily cruel & evil! She lied about company policies and payment methods. She often "forgot" about my family & we had to fend for ourselves. I don't trust a word that comes out her mouth. She's a pathological liar. She also added a stranger's number to our group chat while requesting personal information. She attempted to cancel my mother's burial because I had another representative help me with the finishing touches. She did not care at all about my family and would take 24-48 hours to respond with excuses & no valuable information. She waited 2 days prior to the burial to tell my family we needed to pay the remaining balance. However, she told us before we signed the contract that we could do a payment plan. She was hoping that we could not afford to pay in full, so she could pocket our deposit. She refused to give us hard copies of any paperwork and she often made decisions on our behalf without even speaking with us or asking for approval. Alan (the regional manager) is incompetent & does not communicate well with his own team. He reached out to another mortuary to cancel our loved one's burial (on behalf of Maricela), even though the remaining balance was paid for. These people have no business working in this industry. They should rename themselves Subpar Hills. What an absolute nightmare! read more

We had an appointment with Sadie to discuss services for our mom who recently passed away. We explained to Sadie that we were in the information gathering stage and she was so helpful, kind, and compassionate. She took us on a tour and discussed the cost of the Chapel and reception area and what it would include. She also discussed the costs of other services we may need such as audio/video presentations and programs, thank you cards etc. The grounds are beautiful and when they open the curtain in the Chapel it overlooks the whole valley and is stunning. Sadie did reserve the date for us without a deposit. We were going to be deciding within a couple of days. I notified Sadie that we would not be needing the use of their facility and she thanked me for letting her know. Never once was there any pressure or hard sell which was appreciated. read more

When we first dealt with Sunset Hills everything was great. 5 star service. This last time we needed to get another larger urn. They said everything will be done the following week. I got Covid and was out for two weeks. I waited another week to make sure I was okay to go back out in the world. I went to pick up my parents cremains. I waited about twenty minutes thinking they might have lost them. They came back and said they did not get the urn. Also they said they could not release them to me because my name wasn't on the paper work. I asked to see the paperwork and flipped the paper over and my name was on the back. They located an urn at another facility and I had to follow them to the other location to pick up the urn and transfer the ashes. It is really frustrating to have to go through all this when a simple follow up would have prevented this from happening. It was a completely different experience from all our previous dealings. My wedding was August 22, 2020 and I couldn't have asked for any place more beautiful and accommodating as Sunset Hills. Adriana, the coordinator, was there for me every step of the way and help my wedding dreams come true. I had so much say in the decorations. My day was unique to me and my husband and everything was prepped by the staff the way we wanted it. Practice the day before was a VERY good idea and just a small part of what the package provides. The whole staff the day of was very respectful and professional. All COVID-19 practices were followed very well by staff and were very appreciated. My husband bought a burial plot years before we married and now we want to sell it as we moved out of state and have no intention of coming back. Where the plot is, is in the military section and we can't sell it to anyone but someone that has served. The Sunset Hills is holding us "in a financial hostage situation" because they won't buy the plot back, but we can't sell it either. The plot is located near where Roy and Dale are buried, so yeah, we are upset. Sunset Hills needs to either open this section up or refund us the money with interest ASAP. Their set up is breathtaking. We went to take a look because of my niece's passing. We didn't know what we were going to do at the time. We were looking at different options. I would say that If I did want to be buried, I would choose this place. It has a beautiful view of the high desert. They have plenty of space for you to choose from, from being close to the mountain to further where they have their fountain. You can choose to start the process now and pick a currently available spot but not quite ready (cheaper) or choose an already nice and green spot. Definitely not something you really think about, but when a loved one passes away, all of this becomes so overwhelming that you don't know what to decide. It gave us a different perspective. I thought I was ready in every way if something were to happen to us, but I realized that I really wasn't, and making the decisions about what you want your family to do with you when you pass should be something that we all should take very seriously. read more

This is a beautiful place there is not doubt about that. My issue with this place goes back to my mother's services. While her service was beautiful. The headaches that came after were not. We were in constant battle with the office regarding her stone. How we couldn't order the color the stone we wanted and paid for. We had to choose something completely different because of where her resting place was. This WAS NOT IN HER CONTRACT. Although we were given a refund for her marker this took months. Her stone was suppose to be rushed and it still took almost a year to get. There have been many discussions with the office about her decor and personal items at her site. They would always get moved or broken. I have kept complaints to a minimum and gave this company benefit of the doubt. This all change when I walked up to see my moms and ALL of her decorations were gone! As I soon realized all the other decorations at the cemetery have had been removed. When asked about this whom ever I spoke to had no empathy no respect for what I was asking and simply stated you have to drive to the dirt road past the parking lot there you will find the items you'll have to dig for your items and take them. There in a dirt field were ALL the decorations from peoples resting place! I was in shock! No notice, no respect, just there waiting for families to come pick through piles and try to find their loved ones belongings. Complaint won't help me but leaving a bad review on how poorly they handled this situation will hopefully help. They have signs about masks every where but no notice of decorations and personal affects being taken down and no longer allowed. read more

Went through a very recent horrible experience with the funeral arranger we were assigned, at Sunset Hills Memorial, Apple Valley. My advice here, it's important to request for one who is most professional & experienced, don't let them assign you one, ask beforehand. Some at Sunset Memorial, not all funeral arrangers there, have NO business in this field. Ours made it real clear at the very beginning, (but too late to change) it was about the commission she was earning. There was no compassion, or humility in admitting/apologizing for multiple mistakes. Instead, when requesting a change of funeral arranger, she let me know that they "would NOT get the account"! She even blamed me, for her sending Transfer of Body document, to wrong e-mail address, rather than apologizing for not asking for correct spelling (albeit for a very common name Siri even knows how to spell). Her reply to that was, "THAT WAS NOT MY FAULT, THAT WAS YOUR FAULT FOR NOT SPELLING OUT..." !!! My heart fell, mourning a loved one, in this case, my beloved father, and being talked to like that from our funeral arranger. This was the person, that was going to handle our beloved's burial arrangements. Felt awful. All her mistakes were a "no-brainer", should not have happened. She laid blame on others, when she could very well have done a quick review before sending documents & draft of memorial cards, ect. over to me, especially after multiple times of my fathers first name being wrong. Then, after I did part of what should have been her job, track down where to locate doctor for signature of Death Certificate, after she let a (agonizing as we wanted to put our loved one to rest) entire week go by, I begged her, to please e-mail so Death Certificate could be signed by doctor. Her reply was that she had other families. She went 8 business days past Calif. State law requirement of up to 8 days after death to get the doctor's signature. State of California HEALTH AND SAFETY CODE Section 102775102775 It was horrible & so very depressing to go through, especially under the circumstances. Her lack of skills, definitely delayed our loved one from being laid to rest, a good week longer. Then, there were discrepancies of when she said documents were signed, (Death certificate, & cremation), to when they actually were, later than when she implied. Better Business Bureau complaint reveals bonus pay offered for more plots sold, complaint did not reveal name of manager at that time, instead used, "Mr. ********", but manager in answer to complaint, had no charity in privacy, but revealed publicly name of who complaint involved!! Google & Yelp reviews also reiterate what we went through, "incompetent, unprofessional, inconsiderate", ect. Also, expect to pay current price difference, even if you paid in full years ago, In our case, the current fee was approx. $700 more, & pre-planning did not avoid going through some of the paper work again. Another instance where our funeral arranger did not seem to know what she was doing, and she had no preparation for our meeting. Reason for 2 not 1 Star: But there ARE a few there I was able to meet, and I am hugely grateful for their professionalism & compassion, all the more after having gone through what I did. (Funeral arranger, Shad, offered a complete opposite of negative experience, he was professional, consoling & right at the beginning offered & did make a easy correction of one of her mistakes that involved a very sensitive document. He was wonderful, wish he was our assigned funeral arranger. Then, Kathy, park manager, was there for time of Inurnment of our loved one's ashes. My family & I were deeply grateful & moved by her compassion, how honorably she held our loved one's Urn, her humility & kindness, so thankful & relieved she was the one to assist & be there at the burial. Meant so very much. We couldn't help but ponder & speak so favorably of her, on our way home after our loved one's burial. It's fine employees like Shad & Kathy, that negative reviews for Sunset Memorial, should not be a reflection for all employees there. The funeral director, whoever is in charge there, REALLY OWES the good funeral arrangers & other good employees there, and ESPECIALLY their customers, THE SHEER DECENCY to weed out the bad ones. My father passed in 2018 and my mother passed this past November. Sunset Hills handled arrangements for both. Both experiences were excellent. We were treated with empathy and they helped us work through the entire process. They have always been professional and communicated with my family well. I want to acknowledge Justin that helped with my mother's arrangements. He went above and beyond to make sure that are needs were being met. He was so kind and even helped take pictures at my parents internment. I should add the property is beautiful, peaceful and the view of the desert valley is spectacular. read more

They were suppose to do a livestream of my nephews funeral. It was written on the paperwork. Only they didn't do it even after they were reminded about it that morning. Because they didn't tell the family they weren't doing it, we had no opportunity to video it ourselves. Family and friends who were out of town/state missed out and we lost all the memories of the event. When we called to find out what happened, we have been given the run around. Run don't walk from this place, Our Mother Passed on in June of 2016, they messed up the Service, and it now May of 2017 and her headstone has not been set. All we get is the round a round from them and unanswered phone calls! I and my wife own a plot here and we plan on selling it and finding some place better then this mess. Update 5-16-2017 Several weeks ago My Wife and I where at Sunset Hill to make my Fathers final arrangements we worked with Eduardo Huerta, He is the new Dir. of Mortuary and Cemetery Services, it seem the old Director came into money and had a " take this job and shove It" moment. In leaving he left not only my Mothers Headstone undone but several other families hanging. Mr Huerta promised Me my Moms headstone would be set by June 2, 2017 not only did he deliver as promised He got it done in time for Mothers Day making my Dad very happy. After working with Mr. Huerta along with Ms. Bonello and Mr. Kevin Gately I feel that Sunset Hills is back on track and will only get better with time, so I am changing my rating to 5 stars. read more

It should be known that when you lose a loved one, so very dear to your heart, that you are addressed with dignity, sympathy and compassion by the person that is preparing to lay the loved one to rest. I cannot say enough about Meghan Arensdorff in how she had taken care of me during this time. I was constantly emailing, calling/texting her, setting up appointments to meet with her to go over all of the points of my husband's Celebration of Life. Making changes to our final resting location and asking so many questions. It was my heartfelt feeling that all she could do for me was not enough. She pretty much held my hand through it all with dignity, sympathy and compassion each time we were in contact. My friend is laid to rest at this beautiful place , There's a beautiful Horse that lives in a stable there so I bring carrots to feed him . They Use the natural rockscape of the park as well as artificial rocks and grass, estate gardens and mausoleums have been designed which allow the families to own the most unique cemetery property available today. It's a beautiful small cemetery, but it's so isolated. On the other hand, if you are looking for something smaller and private, this works.

Staff do not call back promptly, you have to practically continue to call them & leave messages. Megan said she made one attempts to call my almost 80 year old mother when the death certificates came in. But here HER records showed one attempt made( in writing). She claimed several calls were made but none never attempted my number. I have spoken with Megan and Jennifer several times and my number is in the file! When I called cause i thought it was taking to long, she reply to me via a four word text! Well let's just say I WILL NOT BE USING THEIR SERVICES & WILL tell everyone I know not to!!I I won't even get into the unnecessary charges they charged. Which we paid in full, before my dads services due to Covid-19, was delayed. Once they received payment it was hard for my mom or I to hear back from Megan or anyone for any assistance. It's been 4 months since my mother passed away and she still doesn't have a grave marker. They keep asking my sister, who is the executor of our mom's will, for more money. She was told that there was a mistake made on the marker and they needed more money, which my sister has paid, and still no marker. She has called and left messages but doesn't get a return call. She emailed, but that was returned as well. They should be ashamed for hitting up grieving people for more money and need to step up and do the right thing. It's unacceptable to gauge the grieving people who've lost their loved ones. read more

What an amazing wedding venue, for such a reasonable price. You wont need a lot of decorations for this venue because it is so beautiful on its own. They allow you to arrive at the venue early in the morning, and drop everything off the night before. This is so rare to find such an all inclusive and accommodating venue like Sunset Hills. We had a ceremony on the lake and a sunset reception on the terrace. It was beautiful and we received so many compliments on the food, venue, and also to our coordinator Adriana. Adriana is a professional wedding coordinator and ensured that the day went off without a hitch, she was running around making sure everything looked perfect and dealt with a very windy day with ease. As a bride, Adriana was a life saver! She ensured my wedding day was stress free. The team that this venue comes with makes the experience that much better, they are the best. My best friend was married at this venue this past weekend. Telling people that I was going to a wedding at a cemetery was a little off putting for some and I definitely got funny reactions. However, this venue couldn't have been more beautiful and honestly, you don't even really notice its a cemetery once you're there for a wedding. Personally, I think all of the pretty flowers at the grave sites when you first drive in, made it even more beautiful. I was part of the bridal party so we had to be there the day before for a rehearsal which went very well. From the gorgeous lake, to the picturesque views and surroundings, the ceremony outside was wonderful. The reception in the upstairs patio area was perfect! The bathrooms and wedding party dressing rooms were clean and beautiful. All I heard from other guests was how pretty it all was. Honestly, I have zero complaints other than I wish it were closer to where I live so I can get married there too! The wedding coordinator, Adriana, was so nice and helpful, she definitely made the whole experience a lot easier and made it flow nicely. I don't know what the bride would have done without her! Lastly, I'm not sure on exact pricing but from what I know after talking with the bride, of all the places she looked at she said this location was reasonably priced as well. So if you live in the area or are willing to drive a bit farther, this venue is a perfect location for a wedding! read more

All of the staff was kind and comforting from the time we initially walked in the door until we said our last goodbyes. Stunning view, stunningly incompetent staff. It took months to get my dads headstone placed and additional months to have his Air Force service medallion affixed. When I asked why the long wait, I was told that they require the headstone company to affix it so that IF THEY CRACK THE HEADSTONE it is their liability.
