I dont know where to start! Maybe with the sadness that there is no zero stars to review this business! I was returning customer and there were issues before but I know how stuff can go wrong so I didn't complain. But in the last piece I made with them there was a mistake on labeling the template mainly miscommunication between me and the owner Andy. I tried to ask for a new piece for a discount as he charged me really high price for the first one. His reply was "I dont care I dont give a shit" although he is partially responsible for the mistake. Not to mention calling so many times throughout weekdays or passing by the shop to do the business and no one would be there! If ever there was a business that deserved 0 stars. We ordered a black countertop and backsplash for a small wet bar in our house. The existing countertop and backsplash sat under a mirror that ran from the backsplash to the ceiling. We asked if the backsplash could be cut to a custom height so it would sit under the same mirror. Not a problem they said. "We'll get it measured up when they do the template, we do this all the time." When I received the quote, the backsplash was listed as 3 1/2 inches, so I immediately called and confirmed it would be cut to size. Again, they assured me this was not an issue, just how the quote comes out of the computer. They would measure it when they did the template. Sounded good to me. I signed the quote and we're on our way. Andy (the business owner/operator) comes out to do the template. He looks at the old laminate countertop. The new countertop would be higher because of the thickness. He measures some things, makes some notes. Again, things are looking good. Installation day comes and the backsplash is cut to 2 5/8 inches. The guys get the counter installed but the backsplash won't fit. The backsplash won't fint in the gap left between the mirror and the counter. And here's where things take a bad turn. The installers say they have to call the shop. A few minutes later I get a voicemail. Andy had called and is now claiming that we asked for a standard 3 1/2 in backsplash, it's right there on our quote. He says they don't do custom sizes. He mentions in the voicemail the only thing we can do is take the mirror down off the wall. I call back and speak with him. I recount the conversation regarding the custom sized backsplash, the one where they said it's not a problem, what's written on the quote is just standard, they can work with our setup. But here he is, telling me "what's on the quote is what's on the quote". I ask why then, if this is what I ordered, is the backsplash cut to very close to the right height, and not the standard 3 1/2 inches that is listed. He starts again saying they don't do custom, I'll just have to take down the mirror. I can't believe this. He's trying to go back on his word and is obviously lying because they did cut the backsplash to size, they just got it wrong. I repeat myself about the size delivered versus what's on the quote. Finally, after an incredibly tense and uncomfortable conversation, he relents. He says to me he'll never cut a custom backsplash height again for us. I don't think he realizes that I'd rather put cardboard on my counters then work with someone so fraudulent ever again. I mention to his installers that I think they're going to cut it to fit. I mention I'm not expecting it to be perfect, obviously we'll have to calk the gaps given that this mirror can't be perfectly level with the new counter. They give me a look like this sort of thing happens more often than not. The counter is installed. Everything is okay other than the very sloppy calking job that I had to wipe away and redo myself. But I think there are a couple of lessons here. First, even if someone says something like "that's just what comes out, we'll do what you're asking", get it in writing. Get everything in writing and that should be obvious. My mistake. The second lesson is that there are lots of options when it comes to counters in this area. Don't try to save money because they have a remnant that fits your needs and they can install in 3 weeks instead of 12 weeks like some other shops. Work with an honest person. He initially gave me a rough estimate and then after reviewing our situation he said that we really didn't need to do anything at this time. I respect and appreciate his honesty. We visited Sunset Granite in the middle of a weekday. As others have said, the customer service is non-existent. Although two women were behind the desk, neither said hello and neither stood up to greet us. No one walked us around, so we looked around the showroom by ourselves in silence. It was quite awkward. No other customers were there at the time. On our own, found a quartz that we liked, so we asked for a quote. We were told it would be emailed. Four days later, still no quote, so I called and asked for it again. Finally, it was sent and the price was reasonable, so we decided to move forward with them. I left messages for the woman who sent it, and... crickets. Five days later and she still hasn't called back, so we hired another company. All the positive reviews about their work don't mean much if customers can't get past the poorly-staffed admin department. read more

I came in here after going to a few other local countertop places. When I walked in, the 2 women working didn't acknowledge me. I had to initiate the conversation..seriously? I was looking at samples knowing pretty much what I wanted but I still had a few questions. They seemed annoyed that I needed some questions answered about warranties and quality of the stone. When shopping for counters I expect more than one word answers. I had my measurements ready for an estimate and once again it seemed like I was inconveniencing them by wanting to get an estimate. And I still don't have my estimate! The other 3 businesses worked up my estimates within an hour. If they want my thousands of dollars they sure don't act like it. Very unprofessional and I will not ever recommend this company to any of my friends. Maybe their installs are great but the front end service is a joke. read more

I found this business on Angie's List, where I bought a "big deal" for one complete granite counter installed with sinks, and I ended up getting two. They completed both bathroom countertops for me with good results. One minor issue, I had to choose from remnant slabs to get the "big deal" pricing, which was not even in the fine print. But I had to downgrade my review to 3 from a previous 5 star rating... They sold the granite slab I reserved. This broke the verbal commitment to hold the material. That was the other half of my project! I very distictly remember that I offered to pre-pay for the slab until I was ready and Andy declined to take the payment, and even when Andy called again to confirm I wanted it, I emphatically said "Yes", but he failed to mention of any one month policy. It is frustrating to have half a bathroom remodeled in River Bordeaux, a nice but hard to find granite slab. The project is still not done and I've wasted many months trying to find match to this material. read more

They arrived on time and got the job done without any mess. I am really happy with Andy's work for a few reasons. One is that his price is competitive and he's willing to work with you. Second he did not mark up the material as much as the big boys. Third, he was able to do the job in a quick time frame. For those of you that want to go this route and not wait 2-3 weeks for the installers to show, I would recommend going with Sunset. I enjoyed working with a small business even though I understand how busy and swamped a small business can get. Keep this in mind when working with most small business. I just had the folks at sunset install granite countertops with an Undermount sink in my kitchen. The price was very reasonable. The installers arrived on time and were very professional and did a great job. They cleaned up after themselves, lay down tarps on the floor so they didn't make a mess, and got the job done in a minimum of time. I would absolutely recommend using these folks if you're planning on doing a kitchen remodel. I am very pleased with the end results. It's also a local company, family-owned, and I like to do business with local businesses when I can. I was in a few times to go through the remnant yard. The first initial visit was good. The two ladies in the office were very helpful showed me a few things and asked me to come back with dimensions so they could help me find a remnant that would fit for my project. The second visit the business owner Andy walked into the office without a mask!!!!! He did eventually mask up and offer to help me find what I was looking for. We went through the yard I did find a piece that would work for me. When we went back into the office low and behold another employee walking into the office I believe to clock out did not have a mask on. I did give Andy my dimensions and here it is 2 weeks later and he never got back to me. I was really hesitant on using them after seeing 2 employees without face masks or any protective coverings. If they are coming into our home to install I wonder if masks would have been used or not.... After waiting for so long I ended up going with a different company in Aloha. Owner Andy doesn't know how to run a business gives an estimate and then increases the price continuously. He fails to email the estimates or emails to the incorrect email and when he increases the price blames it on you since you didn't review the estimate but we never knew we would receive one. I love my new quartz countertops,they are beautiful, and the installation was done quickly and well. But... There were several things about our experience with Sunset Granite that could have been improved upon. They are not great about communication, failing to return calls or emails.They never called to give us advance notice of installation, so that we could get cupboards emptied and schedule installation of appliances. If my husband hadn't called to check after a long silence, our appliances would have been delayed. In addition, they cut the back-splash for a stove with rear controls, even though we provided them with photos and installation specs for our new stove with front controls right from the beginning. They did come out to install the correct piece the next day. The biggest concern was that they sent someone out to connect our sink and disposal that they SAID was a plumber, but was not, and the whole thing was botched, crooked, and leaking. We were able to get a refund for the plumbing and take care of it ourselves, but shame on them for not using a licensed plumber. I would consider using them again, but would definitely be more assertive as far as communication. read more

We were really excited to support a local company which is why we hired Sunset Granite. I wish we would've stuck with the big companies because it would've been completed to our satisfaction. The countertop install was done incorrectly (not lifted high enough) and with no attempt to correct it by the owners. The glue used on the seams was done incorrectly, as well as the glue/install of our sink. When I mentioned our awful experience to a friend, he mentioned they had a bad experience with their countertops also...what do ya know? --also used Sunset Granite. Okay, so their 'showroom' and remnant yard leave a little to be desired. We had trouble finding the office, walking all around the massive property looking for it. It was a Saturday and it appeared no one was there, although their hours posted online clearly said they were open. We did finally find the office (it turned out the office was marked, but not obviously so). We told the woman in the office what we were looking for: A remnant for our master bath vanity. After some time measuring every possible granite remnant option in their yard (the slab granite in the yard wasn't well organized and it was difficult to see many of them stacked behind others), we finally found one that would work. It was only 4 days later they came out to measure and they were professional and efficient. They took one of our sinks in order to make the cutouts in their workshop. About 5 days later they called to schedule the installation and were flexible when I had to move it out a few days. Installation took no more than 15 minutes (we were doing our own installation of sinks). The installation crew was very polite and efficient and helpful as well when they discovered the demo my husband had done wasn't quite finished, so they finished the job. All in all, I'm very pleased with my new 3cm granite vanity countertop. The price was very fair for the product and service received, and the staff and installation crew were top notch and professional. My suggestion to them would be to make their property more customer friendly and accessible with better signage and organization of remnants separate from slabs that were already sold, as well as some way to actually see all the remnants available. I took one star off for that alone. read more
