Clay Bowl - Interior decor. This screams small town Nebraska.

This is yet another restaurant that stands in as a perfect example of a rural Nebraska gem. The…read moreoutside is unassuming - in fact at first it's hard to tell it's a bowling alley, as it looks a bit like a bait and tackle store. But step inside and you are transported to the past; built in 1961, the decor and the style hasn't changed much since. The bowling alley is immaculate and the pin reset machinery is still the 1960s original. The advertisement signs are hand painted (and not just for looks - they are real ads). The restaurant is unassuming, with extremely informal tables and the kind of bar with dollar bills playfully stuck to the ceiling (if you don't know the trick, ask them, it'll only cost a dollar to show you). The food that I've tried (burgers and fries) is excellent. A burger of this caliber on the coasts would cost $25, easy, with thick handmade fresh beef patties. While I was there they were slow barbecuing a set of roasts on the outdoor grill - should be ready by tomorrow! The service was extremely kind, and the owner even showed me around the back machinery of the bowling alley when she noticed I was interested. This is the kind of place where everyone knows everyone already, the type of small town restaurant that is slowly disappearing from the American landscape. If you are stopping by in Sutton or traveling on the highway, it's worth a visit. If you like experiencing small town rural diners

We're just trying to celebrate, but that guy ruined it for ALL OF US! I highly recommend the bowling place in Elkhorn. because that has way better customer service and an arcade which this one does not have. the bathroom.... it looks like someone peed on the walls, cause everything is yellow, and it smells terrible. there was diarrhea in one of the toilets which they must not clean the toilet because all I need to do is take a quick pee, but I got disturbed because randomly the light flickered off and I was scared. as I was trying to flush the toilet I accidentally put my hand in the toilet because it was so dark. there were holes on the wall, and I felt very uncomfortable peeing in front of those holes. The stalls were very small, especially for my large body. I was very very, very, very uncomfortable peeing there or sometimes I took a quick fart, my skin was literally touching the stall walls and it was getting kind of sweaty in there. there was poop scattered all of the walls, and when I looked at my skin, there was wet poop on my skin and that poop was not mine. The shoes hurt your feet and the workers are just not kind when you have to ask them to give you a different size. The bowling alleys were fine, but they were all normal bad lighting and they weren't glow in the dark, if you want to have a cooler experience, don't come here. when I asked for customer service on the computer, all they did was stare at us like we were freaks they must be the creeps from the bathroom, and make sure I was doing it right when I'm not even a pro athlete and I don't need to learn how to bowl. They should trained their employees to be kind and not little brats and they're deathly spoiled by their parents cause they definitely get all they want from daddy's money. everyone is drinking and getting drunk and they are also saying cus words around my babies. I hope you guys never come here and I recommend going to a different bowling alley. This is why I rate this on one star review.

They are also the only bowling alley in Lincoln that participates in Kids Bowl Free, where you can sign children up for 2 free games of bowling per day all summer long! They do not take reservations for Kids Bowl Free and it applies only during specific hours. It's a great, low cost activity that provides access to bowling to more youth. I love it. And when summer is over, Madsen's is honestly a perfect indoor activity for kids during the winter. What about birthday celebrations? Yes! This summer we booked a lane on a Sunday morning to celebrate my son's birthday and it was a wonderful experience. Sara Madsen and I emailed back-and-forth many times to go over the details. We even showed up to a custom sign at our table. They recommend 6 bowlers per lane for timing sake, which usually gets at least 1 game for kids. The whole Madsen's team was prepped and ready to help make the day special. We felt very welcome. I really appreciated that we were able to spread out and decorate the high top bar behind the lane (they even mentioned it, I didn't have to ask) and even when my kids were running around while we setup, I never felt stressed out. Madsen's does offer a birthday rate (not featured on the website) so I recommend reaching out if you're interested. $80 includes 1 lane, 1 pizza, 1 hour of bowling for up to 6 bowlers and shoe rental. If kids bowl in socks and don't need shoe rental, paying the regular rate is actually $15-$20 cheaper than the birthday package. The regular rate for a lane is $40/hour + $3 shoe rental/person. Pizza runs around $20-$25 depending on toppings. The birthday was a Fortnite Birthday Bowling Royale theme so having pizza fit nicely into the setup. We had 5 kids and one pizza was plenty. For adults, I passed around a menu in case they wanted something different. Socks were part of our favors so we brought our own, but they do have some fun bowling socks for $3/person. They also have a bowling pin pin for the guests to sign and the birthday boy can take home? We have those for $20. We were also allowed to bring in desserts and they even stored the ice cream cake until we were ready and provided a knife for cutting. Note: The birthday rate already includes gratuity, which I didn't realize until after I paid. With the birthday rate and food ordered off the menu, the total bill was $155 plus $30ish in gratuity.
