There is a dam structure about a 1/2 down the road that you have to portage. The portage spot is on the left handside of the river as you float down. Gate is closed, possibly aligning with the closing of fishing season. I'm not sure the exact hours. When fishing season is open, you can see several fisherman lined up on the banks.

Access gates are open sunrise to sunset from October through mid-May- otherwise, park and hike. Parking in the lot is $5 per vehicle and they do ticket so pay up. Apparently there's a boat ramp here, but you can get info on fishing and ramp-access fees off the website. I go here to kick-back, splash around with a friend, and get dirt between my toes :) What can I say, I'm a dirty girl.

Calling it a "beach" is a tad misleading but a great access point and a good swim spot for the family. If you can swim upstream about 100 yards there is an awesome spot of rapids to walk up and float down many times. It was awesome! Otherwise the river itself barely moves. Perfect for paddle boarding!

We were sore and sunburnt the next day from all the paddling. (Paddles also recommended) We were able to rent shuttle rides (highly recommended) and floats through the regional parks website. When were on the water there were about 1000 people seen throughout the day. My float mate and I both agreed we'd do this again. Kids are able to do this however free life vests are available for them. Can I say dog friendly?? YES! So many furry friends on floats!!

LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION From this location one can find a store with ATM and deli sandwiches; a Michelin rated restaurant with sommelier all within a half mile. Another mile away find the town of Forestville (pop. 3,293) for anything else you might need or want such as a coffee cafe, bakery, post office, pizza, laundry, hardware, farmers market and pharmacy; Santa Rosa airport (STS) is 7.5 miles away and Northwoods golf course is 11 miles. Lots of authentic, small-town, down-home people and charming, unique West County businesses to find and enjoy, it's the best part of the Sonoma County. Helpful Info - no cards or ATM, sometimes the road outside the campground is busy with big rigs, slow down (traffic enforcement) and have patience within the campground it's 5mph and THEY MEAN IT!

Ragle Ranch Regional Park is an amazing local park. It has beautiful examples of oak woodland, some…read moreredwood groves and fine examples of secondary succession where fields are gradually being replaced by forest. There are bicycle trails, hiking trails and people take horses there too. Benches along the way let a person sit and enjoy the beauty. Out on the trails it's hard to believe you are within walking distance of downtown. There are also baseball, softball, soccer and volleyball. It is also home to the premier public tennis facility in West County, the Ragle Ranch Tennis courts were built with private donations and have been maintained by dedicated volunteers for the past 30 years without taxpayer funds. It has one of the few practice walls in West County and a porta potty nearby.

Local regional park with baseball, volleyball, par course, four tennis courts (no pickleball…read moreallowed), soccer fields, kids play structure, dog park and hiking trails. We came birding here recently and saw a hawk and woodpecker perched up in a tree. They also had sheep and goat grazing in a temporary fenced-off area to keep the dry grass down. I love this eco-friendly method of managing vegetation. There were about a dozen dogs happily playing in the dog park when I was there. It was fun to watch how they interact with each other. There were a few growls but responsible dog parents were there to quickly call their dogs back. There are several picnic tables sprinkled throughout the park. You can reserve areas for special events. I have attended a wedding and a friend hosted a retirement party here. The Gravenstein Apple Fair has been held at this location for many decades as well. There are a few parking lots to choose from. You can park inside the park for free if you are a Sonoma County Regional Park member. Annual pass is currently $69. Seniors get a discounted rate.

One of the two neighborhood parks that we love walking to from our house. My grandson calls this…read morethe swing park because it has adult swings and two bucket swings for toddlers. It also has a teeter totter that we love to play on and a climb through tunnel and a sit or stand on bouncy type structure. In the winter it does flood at times, but in our rain boots we still have a good time!
