Waterfall at the boat ramp
Amber V.

It's been a few years since we've been back but still a solid 4 stars. Shower prices have changed slightly, $3 for 6 minutes. Port-a-potty's are hit or miss. It had been 3 days since it was cleaned per the cleaning log and it was horrid. Thankfully it was cleaned the next day and every other day we were there. They are dog friendly but require them to be a leash at all times, however that wasn't always the case. I apparently brushed up against some poison ivy while on the trail to "wifi rock" which was a bummer. All that aside, the views here are absolutely breath taking and we will continue to return to this place over any other campsites. Another thing to note, the general store across the street closed at 5pm so if u need something later in the evening you are SOL.

Absolutely beautiful

Absolutely beautiful location and relaxation area. Only issue, I have is that there is limited spots to park our trucks and RV due to unoccupied RVs everywhere. For a Wednesday, this place is PACKED! Great locations here and there, but too many unoccupied RVs just sitting empty and families and others' have a difficult time finding a spot.

Amazing camping on the ocean! Gorgeous views, Great sites, no reservations needed! Hot showers are a plus. Restaurant with full bar within walking distance.

We love OC camp, hard to believe anyone wouldn't. We are tent camper's and appreciate the size of the camp sites, we love the fact that the camp store is there if we need something. Being next to the ocean is amazing - you can hear the roar at night and enjoy the beautiful views while sitting at the ocean edge or hiking on the cliffs near by. We will always be faithful OC campers.

I've been coming to ocean cove for the last 6+ years with my in laws, who have been coming for over 15. Needless to say, we LOVE this campground!! We love it, because it encourages a free spirit mindset with no reservations available. When you want to go, you go. If you're planning to go on a weekend however, make sure to call, as this place is bumping on the weekends. There's a great trail to walk along the coast that is kid and elderly friendly! Restaurant close by if you don't want to cook over the fire, as well as the campground store that has everything from sunflower seeds to ice cream. Drive north a mile or two, and there's another awesome trail/rock climbing area. The only downfall, is how popular this place has become over the years, but is still our number one favorite spot to camp at!!

Ocean cove is amazing place. We love camping there. So quite and peaceful. If your lucky to get a spot on the cliff.

Such a hidden gem. Beautiful spot. Workers are very friendly and helpful. We.so love camping here. No hookups but the views are breathtaking. The store has amazing amount of stuff. Local cheese, snacks and beer. Weekends they have some of the best grilled oysters. Also try the restaurant across the way. Fish and chips are pretty dang good.

We come here every year. Really cool place for family and church retreats. Too bad you can't catch abalones anymore as we initially started to visit this place back in the 90's. It's still cool tho. Recommended.

HANDS DOWN the best place to camp in my opinion. I've been coming here since I was a kid with my family starting in 2005. We come every single year now for my birthday and it never ever disappoints. The people are amazing, the views are amazing and it just feels like home. Absolutely recommend coming here. There aren't enough nice things I could say about it. Come see for yourself

Yearly Group Campsite Reservation and it never disappoints. Walking distance to the Cove. The site has its own water, porter potties and the site is gated. Ocean Cove store is walking distance. There is always a vendor selling oysters each weekend we visit in July. Showers are nice and hot for five minutes for $2.50 in quarters. This campsite is 32 minutes South of Gualala and about 1 hour up North from Bodega Bay.

Ask the Community - Ocean Cove Campground

What restaurants are nearby?

Closest restaurants are in Sea Ranch 20-30 minutes away.

Are there communal areas to bbq?

Hello, Is Ocean Cove opened all year ? Thanks,…

Hi There! we are open April 1st to December 1st

Are Dogs allowed at the campground?

Yes. Very dog Friendly.

How is the cell service at this campground?

I didn't have any. It was kind of refreshing, actually but did make it difficult to contact members of our group arriving at different times.

Can I hook up to water for my RV?

You can fill up when you drive in but no faucets to stay connected to while camping. Primitive camping.

Looking to camp here in October. Can we reserve a site or is it first come first serve?

First come first serve, reservation is for the large group campgrounds only (the fenced in areas)

Are there hotels nearby?

Inn across the street and around the corner.

I see that we cannot make reservations and we must register at the store, but the store closes at 5pm. Does that mean no one can arrive after 5pm? We won't be able to set up and register the next morning when the store opens?

The store closes but the gate stays open, so if you arrive after the store closes you just pay in the morning. :)

How much is the group camping site?

They have several and I believe vary based on group size etc, probably best to call in that one

Does Ocean Cove close down during winter?

Yes; camping is from April 1-Nov 30

I will be visiting this campground on Tuesday and would like to know if the ocean there has beach access from the campground or if I should find another near by? If so, any suggestions? Thank you.

The only beach access at this campground is the boat launch.

It is near the Russian River just outside of Guerneville. Redwood vibes similar to some parts of the Santa Cruz range or Marin Hills, but nothing that compares to the big redwoods in Northern California like near Humbolt Co or Crescent City, those are next level. There's a fee to park inside the park. Think it was about $10. It gets busy during the weekends and spaces can be super limited if you come after 11am. We were with a toddler, so we stayed on the main flat trails that go through redwood groves. It is very shady and well trafficked trails. There are a few loops you can join together, and the circumference may be a 2-3 mile hike. But you can do however long you want it to be. Now the trails that elevate into the hills are much more involved. It can elevate to a 1300 foot gain which is pretty strenuous. I haven't tried those yet but it is on my list to try. But even the easy trails that one day, was still beautiful and relaxing. To majestic red bark trees with healthy ferns all on the ground cover, fallen trees to climb on, large rocks to hop on was just a nice jaunt especially with young kids. We brought a light lunch and refreshments and were able to run into a small area with picnic benches. Perfect way to end a few hours steeped in nature, without having to be totally in the wild. Great intro for those that aren't too versed (yet) and to get them exposed to nature, ecosystems and wildlife. Connect with the world amongst which you live with but rarely see. Weekend mission accomplished!

It was one of those light phenomena where exposure to light drains the color from the shell, meaning the next day the faint violet color was gone. Parking was limited and I was fortunate to arrived before the masses. We had sites 1+2 which were great for a group; 1 was VERY spacious (could have easily fit 4-5 tents). See my notes below - sorry for the incomplete sentences, I was doing this on my phone walking around. The raccoons are ruthless once it's dark out! They swiped food from our picnic table while we were sitting at it, just 5 feet away from it. I had my trunk open and left my car for a few minutes; when I came back they'd grabbed things from the cooler and broken some eggs we had. Be vigilent!! There is a beach nearby, with 4-7 year old kids, it was about a 40 minute walk. They definitely needed a lot of motivation to get there and back, but it was doable! The beach is beautiful, with all this stripped away dead wood that made for fun playhouses for the kids. But the waves are really tough there and there are about a million signs saying don't go into the water, as the sand gets very deep quickly, which creates these death trap waves. It's also inclusive of the ever so popular Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve which boasts some of the largest and oldest redwood trees in the area. I hiked here from Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve via the East Ridge Trail with my group and connected to the Pool Ridge Trail. The Pool Ridge Trail is pretty moderate and spans about 4 miles one way. If starting from Armstrong Redwoods, you can connect to the the Pool Ridge Trail from the East Ridge Trail, and It will Loop you back to the beginning. The East Ridge Trail is pretty strenuous though, and the entire loop (when connecting to Pool Ridge) will be a little over 8 miles long in total. The Pool Ridge Trail is a narrow ridge trail that will take you through the beautiful Redwood forest and expose you to the prettiest plants and lush meadows. This trail will also take you to Gilliam Creek and Bullfrog Pond that will lead you to several campgrounds. There are plenty of benches and a few picnics tables along the way that pose at the perfect rest stop. You will be surrounded by the most amazing scenery. Another great reason to hike Austin Creek is that it isn't as crowded as Armstrong Redwoods. Of course, Armstrong Redwoods is gorgeous and is worth a visit too. However, if you're looking to escape the crowds but still reap the benefits of hiking the Redwood Forest, then Austin Creek May be a better fit for you.
