If you've ever driven the California coast, you've experienced the beautiful sandy beaches, sea cliffs, rocky headlands, and lagoons, that extends 1,100 miles from Oregon to the U.S.-Mexico border. I recently completed the entire journey although it was broken up over several trips over several years, and although I experienced several sections multiple times the journey is nothing short of amazing and something I never tire of. The coastal highway in itself is an overwhelming experience but one I highly recommend, I know of no other highway that is filled with such continuous scenery. I absolutely love the drive from San Francisco to Mexico and have driven it several times but the northern California shoreline completely blew my mind, it's full exposure to storm waves generated in the North Pacific that have been punishing the protruding rocks of the shoreline for centuries shaping a coast line that is rugged and ever changing but also mysterious is absolutely beautiful. This outlook is one of so many beautiful views of the coastline and the deep blue pacific I am so glad it's left in its natural state. Once you leave the pavement there is nothing protecting you from a fall that would end your life, if the earth beneath your feet would break loose or if you tripped your final memory would be nothing short of horror so weigh the risk before you peek over the edge, but if are the adventurous type the narrow foot paths and overhanging rocks give you a vantage point like no other. During our visit there were only a few people taking in the view I'm sure this varies depending on the day of the week or the time of the year. There are so many beautiful pull-offs certainly this particular one isn't a destination but rather an opportunity you wouldn't want to miss is you're passing through the area - I've seen a few arched rocks around the world and each are unique so it's well worth a few moment of your time...

I like the feel of this beach. The high cliffs with large sandy beaches are really an interesting combination. Just slightly north of Bodega Bay I would venture to say it's a place one could get lost for hours and take in the stunning views. Lots of parking make it accessible to locals and tourists alike. There were a lot of forts made from driftwood that brought me back to childhood. Evocative to say the least.

Initially the $15 parking fee was a no go but after a minute decided to go in. I was all in cause I was looking forward to Andrea stripping down and diving into the surf. Well..... After getting her toes wet from the cold, cold sea she decided to scrape those plans to my disappointment and everyone else on the beach. So in the fog we did get our feet wet, enjoyed the surf, the dogs and the Dillon Beach Air Force (pelicans) performing low fly overs. The beach was packed. People and dogs everywhere. After feet in the water for a bit it seemed actually swimmable but as much as I persuaded Andrea to go in we left without me holding on to her clothes. Next time. Next time. Lots of families and BBQ's getting out of the rat race for a moment to recollect the sanity they may or may not have had at one point. Upon leaving hopefully the sand that will be everywhere will remind them of a nice time on the coast. I know we will continue to remember it.

$10 cover charge to get in. You can use credit card, lot of parking space. Doesn't seem to have a shower area to shower off the sand. Fine grain sand. Not very Rocky. Bathroom has benches for easier time to get changed. Big dumpsters for throwing away stuff
